  1. All my comic buying over the years has been solely for collecting. For the first time I am now thinking about buying some comics as investments (that I can put away for 10-20 years). This isn't because I feel the markets are going to crash, but because I want to diversify my assets. As I see it stocks are high (as well as correlations between markets), bonds are high (i.e. rates are low), real-estate is high (and I have a lot in my house), cash is paltry, gold is high (unless you believe that that the financial system is about to completely implode) and institutional money has been flowing into hedge funds and private equity to the point where the available opportunities aren't worth the illiquidity. I guess that we can also argue that comics are high, but volatility in the market is fairly low since prices paid tend to be a reflection of previous prices paid rather than the income generating capability of the product (like a stock).

I love Cady's Burgess stuff. I just picked up a couple of pieces of OA from the books. Some day I'll buy the first six issues of the Peter Rabbit comic series which have his artwork (all reprints from the newspapers I think).

    Thanks for sharing! cloud9.gif

I'm surprised there are so few names on this list. 893whatthe.gif

It says a lot about the quality of people on the boards. hail.gifhail.gifhail.gif

Kudos to everyone! headbang.gif I've bought and sold quite a lot over the last few months without a single problem.

  4. I thought it might be handy to have a complete list of dealers who sell GA comics online.

    Any others? popcorn.gif

Now that BIPComics.com has more than just me adding Golden Age books I figure now would be a good time to pimp BIP.

And if anyone that I've bought books from before or has a good feeBay rating is interested in using BIP to sell comics just PM me here or through the contact us link on BIP. Currently BIP is a free service. I've recently added more features to BIP, including image hosting, search and more ways of checking out the available issues (listings, browse, search, and a catalog view).

I'm hoping to make BIP a multi-vendor platform of selling books for those who are tired of feeBay.

I'll vouch for BIP's service... it was a pleasure to deal with Gifflefunk... I picked up a lower grade MYSTERY MEN #10 from him (just arrived today)!! Nice pages, fast shipping, no bull. Very happy with the whole transaction. Recommended!

I just checked out the site. How can I buy a book from Gifflefunk when there is no scan and the grad is described as 'low'? This is pretty much useless to me.

  5. My most recent pick, and a great 8.5 it is (looks more like a 9.0 to me!)

It does look better than an 8.5. Maybe there are some stresses on the white spine that we can't see? confused-smiley-013.gif It also looks like there is some kind of white mark near the bottom of the back cover under the N in Mason.

Still a great book! thumbsup2.gif The eye appeal is so good you'll never have to upgrade.

  6. Hi All -

In response to the recent posts (and Frederic's gracious PM) I thought I would introduce myself (frederic, soory it took so long to respond). I haven't posted to the boards in a couple of years (though I do check them out frequently). I will certainly keep an eye on this thread as ST is one of my favorite titles and am looking to upgrade many of the books I currently have.

wassup bro! hi.gif you sold me my TOS 39 CGC 6.0 on ebay years ago!Still have that one! great book! Did you stop selling on ebay? I haven't seen you around in a long time!

I've also bought books from Sullypython when he was selling on eBay. Great to work with.

  7. Many thanks for this list and thread (a great reference tool).

One question ...why is comiccollectorsnet (Marnin Rosenberg) listed as a slab-only dealer?

I guess I was just looking at the main auction sales which are CGC-only. I never looked at his Search function which does include his non-CGC comics. foreheadslap.gif

    http://www.comiccollectors.net/search.php

    ComicCollectors.net is CGC only: http://www.comiccollectors.net/

Collectors Assemble is raw only: http://www.collectorsassemble.com/

    Same Marnin, different sites.

  8. I don't know if this has been done anywhere in the 38 pages of this thread confused-smiley-013.gif (and I'm not going to read them all to find out), but is anyone interested in discussing why they collect ST? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I started because Dr. Strange is my favorite character and my focus was 110-168. I have since started buying pre-hero issues and also gained an appreciation for Nick Fury. I just finished my NF 1-18 run before Christmas! yay.gif I still have little interest in 101-109, 112-3 and 169 on, although I guess I'll pick them up at some point just because I'm a completionist.

    How about you?!?!?!? flowerred.gif

I guess there aren't too many people collecting Strange Tales. confused.gifsorry.gif

  9. With early Tecs all over the place I'll have to get a second job just to afford anything that will interest you!!! sorry.gif

Ironically enough those Tecs don't really interest me. If I had them, I'd just sell them and buy something I did want.

Just get an Our Army at War 83 and I'll be impressed. insane.gifshy.gif

No problem, I'm on it. Any grade requirements to reach the impressing level? poke2.gif
