  1. If this thread has taught me anything, it's that all the books I've thought were 10s, are indeed 10s. I demand CGC fix this egregious error.
  2. I've gone standard bag and boards for moderns. My oldest books have been in bags for 20+ years. I think storage climate plays a part in how quickly bags start to deteriorate. I've bought some older books from people in bags that clearly needed to be replaced (you could tell based on texture and color). All I'm saying is that I think the notion of changing every 5 years is a bit preposterous. I've transitioned to Mylites/FBs/Archival bags for any books of value. Beyond that, the next step are the few graded books I own. Not sure how much the Mylites/FBs cost in bulk, but I've started to wonder if I should replace all of my books from standard bags/boards to Mylites, but that would require me to buy nearly 3500 and I don't even want to think about the math on that (or the time required to switch. And for what it's worth, for my modern books, I use Current size Thick bags. I found the normal current size bags to be too tight, especially for 96 page anniversary books. The thick bags are perfect for two books back to back separated by two boards (which is great since I store all my books back to back because it puts less stress on the spines).
  3. This is worrisome. I've often wondered how detailed the graders are when it comes to interiors, especially, older, more fragile books. This makes me wonder what else they've possibly missed. It's ironic that they can flag a book for the slightest color touch, but when the interior doesn't match the exterior, it gets missed/ignored.
  4. I've been here 3 years and I'm now finally learning who you guys meant everytime you said Voldemoort. I always thought you were referring to PeeGeeEcks. Which now leads me to wonder, if SeeBeeSeeEss is Voldie, then what's PeeGeeEcks?
  5. Oh you were serious about selling it? I totally thought you were joking. Seems like a fantastic piece, but I guess everything has a price.
  6. Oh god, I know of the Avengers one, but how many of these Wednesday variants did they make? They're terrible.
  7. I do. Who wants to donate money to me? :P
  8. As someone who regrets getting a few books signed and is now looking for raw/blue label versions, I recommend buying a 2nd copy of the book where possible and having that one signed instead. Then you keep your blue label collection of 9.8s intact.
  9. As discussed previously, GPA excludes eBay's fees. The sales on 7/3 and 6/22 were on eBay and were probably subject to the 10% fees. That means the sellers pocketed $1,552.50 and $1,435.50. Given that, OP's transaction would have occurred via Facebook Marketplace (which does not charge any fees), the only fees the seller would have been subject to may be PayPal fees (let's assume 4%) which nets $1,536 to the seller. That hardly sounds like a lowball offer when compared to the eBay transactions. Besides, as mentioned in this thread, it's a starting point that the buyer works up from. But the seller wasn't even willing to entertain it and instead mocked the buyer. Given that someone posted the book for sale for $1,750 from an LCS with an online presence, I'd much rather take my money and buy from them than deal with some d'bag seller.
  10. Lol. What a <bleep>. Too bad we can't add him to a probation/HoS list here.
  11. I know JSC's work has saturated the market place and is starting to all look the same, but I'll never get sick of his MJ's. Or his Gwen Stacy...
  12. I mean, I know it's a dig at DC moving their releases to Tuesday, but I feel the execution of the joke could have been better. I kinda want DC to do a variant of their next Justice League book that simply says "On Sale Tuesday". Maybe then i'll buy the two variants. Imagine someone being a modern Avengers collector and having to slab that book to maintain their registry collection.
  13. Avengers #34: "What if the Avengers were all bombarded by Gamma rays?"
  14. I don't buy them. I buy books I enjoy reading, and prefer owning 1st prints. I think it's because I'm old.
  15. I subscribe to the idea of beginning negotiations at 10% below eBay sold prices (if there are any) to account for the absence of eBay fees. The hope is that you meet somewhere in the middle, but I'm generally willing to go as high as GPA. If they're looking for more, I walk away. Given the current state of the economy, I've been more frugal with what I spend money on which has made walking away easier.
  16. I will always be bothered by 2nd, 3rd, 4th prints (etc) getting so much attention. These books come out months after the 1st print and should thus not be allowed to count as a 1st appearance or key book. They should be no different than re-prints. I have a re-print of Incredible Hulk #181...should that still count as the 1st appearance of Wolverine? Any value is purely a matter of rarity.
  17. Was really hoping for a Rebels follow up, but I have faith in Filoni.
  18. Be careful with that smoke detector...Godzilla might breathe fire and set it off.
  19. wrong sub-forum https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/42-hey-buddy-can-you-spare-a-grade/
  20. I'm relatively new to the hobby so I can pretty much guarantee I have nothing worthy of trade value. That's a great page from a seminal run though. GLWTS.
  21. Most of the ones i've seen are green. I think there's a small group of collectors who value the blue due to it's rarity.
