  1. Those "kitties" are becoming more of a danger to us modern residents.
  2. Gil Kane spoke favorably of his deal with Marvel in the 70s when he drew hundreds of covers. It was essential for keeping up with his alimony payments.
  3. Easy money and probably a preference for doing covers as opposed to the grind of multi-panel story telling. I only recall a couple interiors, including all of Don Juan.
  4. I like the cover, but it's not Top 5 for me. For example, I would rather have Pop Teen 10 or 11. Maybe we need a poll.
  5. It's like LB Cole romance is getting Matt Baker type results!
  6. For "must have" books, there's often an increased price for the entry level copy because people will take anything. So, when an attractive 3.0 comes along it will garner outsized attention compared to a 3.0 of a random issue in the run.
  7. This actually wasn't too bad. Keller lost between 30 and 40% on the majority of his books, and the GA Flash run was just part of that sale.
  8. Spokane! It's certainly a sought after cover but, were it to come up for auction, it's hard to predict the price without knowing how high the third highest bidder was willing to go.
  9. Specifically on the Bats 1, it was net loss of 40% irrespective of fees. The percentage loss on the other books was lower, but still undesirable for the consignor.
  10. You are responding to a post from 20 years ago. That person hasn't visited the Boards in more than a decade. BA = Bronze Age so DC horror comics from 1969 through some 1975 or so.
  11. On GCD, Greg Theakston attributes p/i to Simon and indicates a signature of John Henri. I agree that Speed 17 is by Simon and is signed John Henri, but Speed 18 is unsigned. Another GCD contributor thinks that 18 is a collab between Kirby and Avison, and I far more sympathetic to that than a sole attribution to Simon. https://www.comics.org/issue/2176/
  12. I agree with your comment about Simon. His designs are often an amalgamation of swiped images that don't hang together. This cover is most likely a Simon and Kirby collab. The skeleton striking the chisel has a motion line that is the sort of thing that Kirby did, and the winged creatures flying in is similar to a pre-Hero monster cover Kirby drew 20 years later. It's most likely Kirby design/pencils with Simon inks.
  13. You and me both. I honestly thought that 10k was an aggressive bid. Way wrong. About 8 years ago, Terry O'Neil offered his complete low-grade run of Speed Comics at a what seemed for the time to be a very aggressive price. He specifically called out the 18 for its rarity.
