  1. When folks hear of Atomic Age books they figure that you're talking about Horror, Science Fiction, Crime and Good Girl comics. The more outrageous the book is, the better it is. Since there are already threads devoted to these, this thread is for genres that get eclipsed by their more shocking counterparts. So post all your Atomic Age superheros, westerns, romance, adventure, and war!
  2. Then you'll limit the subject matter,.....mis out on the non-superhero stuff,... Well, there are already horror, good girl and war threads, and the Ducks thread cuts across all eras. So besides superheroes, what else is there? Romance? Classics Illustrated? Westerns? I love the "what else's" so I've come up with a title that hopefully will work. At least I'll contribute to it.
  3. How about anything that fits the atomic age? That would be "generic" Atomic Age! I think Adam makes a good point, there are already some threads featuring subsets of the Atomic Age. To avoid overlapping, I think it should just be limited to superhero titles. I'll add it in the next few minutes and toss in some "cheaters" from this thread. But given my reputation for dishonesty, I don't think we'd police it so heavily that we couldn't slip in something cool every once in a while.
  4. Nah, I think people would understand it basically covers all sorts of stuff from the late 40s (1948? 1949?) up to the month before Showcase 4. Don't know if AA has enough of a following at this point to deserve its own forum, but the only way to find out is by starting a thread. Start it in the GA forum, and if it generates a lot of interest, perhaps the Web gods can be persuaded to create a AA forum and move threads in there. Of course, AA is not an officially recognized era by Overstreet, so perhaps it might never get its own forum. Let's just do it! (gives me an excuse to give AdamStrange a run for his money! The Guanlet has been thrown! Do you accept the challenge? Alright, I'm convinced. Do you want Atomic Age Heroes or generic Atomic Age?

I do think a little celebration is in order as this is the first thread pinned in SA, but, I have to ask, what's up with all the dancing fruit? The GA forum already has pre-code horror, crime, and good girl threads (I've contributed to all 3), and I don't want to dilute them by doing an Atomic Age thread. There aren't enough of us "Atoms" around. Maybe I could do an Atomic Age Heroes thread?
  6. What, you don't like Strange Tales? In addition to the big four, I like the Strange Worlds, Worlds of Fantasy, Amazing Adventure, and Amazing Adult Fantasy. All titles together includes 170 issues -- and I'm impressed by anyone with a complete collection, regardless of grade. My collection is not complete.
  7. Yes I'm debating starting a thread in GA for post-gold, pre-silver kinda stuff. As soon as I figure out what to call it. Some of us old-timers call that Atomic Age! Hey, Tim, we got pinned by the Web gods! Re: Atomic Age deserves it's own forum. If I start a thread with that people usually think of horror sci/fi good girl and the more outrageous stuff rather than some of the 50s hero and tamer material.
  8. I was just curious. I was talking with a friend of mine that picked up Showcase 4 for a dime off the stand and he mentioned he didn't start picking up Marvels until they started doing superheros.

  10. Yes, this is cheating. But they post derogatory comments about the lameness of DC horror when I post them in the pre-code horror thread. They are very naughty.
  11. Thanks, BB. Is that one of your Sid's books? Did you pick up many of the pre-hero books as a kid? Or did you switch over to Marvel with the arrival of the hero books?
  12. Do you have a license to own that comic? Because if not, I'm afraid we're going to have to turn you in. Seriously, that's a very pretty copy of that book.
  13. This is a "Romance" book. You're in the wrong thread. (But it looks like a really nice, I mean icky copy)
  14. You sound surprised. If this was mistakenly sent to you, forward it to me. I'll pay the postage!
  15. That's an awesome Kubert cover! You could toss this one over on the Infinite BA Horror thread.
  16. We need a contest to re-caption this cover! Now! Sweet books, Silver! Jimmy's are a lot of fun!

  18. I was leafing some boxes I haven't been been through in a while and found some of the BA horror, 100 pagers and Giants. I could have had any DC comic I wanted cheap, just didn't know what to want at the time.
  19. Adam, really nice to see the back cover. Nice example of 60's/70's psychedelic pop-art. Can't make out the artist's sig., can you name him? The signature is of "C. Armentano."
