What to expect if submitting with markings?
dfx1 replied to HerculoidZok's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
Lots of cool info if you look around. The section "Can you spare a grade..." I found this with major front cover markings. -
I need to know if that gets shipped to you with that beautiful piece of tape as is. I have never seen such a beautiful delicious piece of tape like that.

I have one. How much would you pay for it?

Pressing improve spine stress lines?
dfx1 replied to DirkDigg's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
The first step is to identify a comic book’s “good” defects and “bad” defects. In short, good defects can be diminished or removed with pressing, and the bad defects cannot. Here is a comprehensive list of both: Good defects (do not break color) Bad defects Dents Bends Folds Light creases Minor spine stresses Impacted corners or edges Warping Ripples (with no stains present) Spine rolls Waviness Stacking bends Cover impressions Light pencil marks (usually in white areas) Dirt Substance Creases that break color Missing chips or pieces Tears Stains Detached staples or staple tears Spine stresses that break color Fading Fingerprints or smudges Dust shadows or sun shadows Rusted staples or rust stains Rounded or blunted corners Pen markings or printer ink Cover veins Brown or brittle cover or pages -
Has anyone else been receiving damaged holders?

If you make it to the beach, don't just sit there, run! The blob will create a wave and get you if you sit by the water. -
Loose inner well in new cases?
dfx1 replied to MagicMan_2017's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
More detail on this would be cool. How does it move within the case? All around? Side to side, up to down, forward to back? -
A large vendor tried to sell one at 9.8 CGC for $195 but it didn't sell as of today. A few 9.6's sold for $40-60. Good luck.

dfx1 replied to fastballspecial's topic in Comics General
I would take no grade and twelve solid pictures all day. Don't do me any favors. -

What do the pictures look like on the ebay post? Did he try to hide that section without looking too obvious?

Could someone explain what I'm missing here?
dfx1 replied to billbrown7080's topic in Comics General
I seen a price guide suggest $4000 difference between the two grades. -

Info.. “I have never seen a "bagged" book, that had a heat seal, that didn't have some sort of indentation on the back cover that would have prevented a 9.8 straight out of the bag, and I have owned thousands of bagged comics (including a full case...150 copies....of Darker Image #1 Gold, all bagged, all of which had some level of indentation on the back cover.) The number of unpressed 9.8s coming out of a bagged comic more than a few days or weeks after production is, in my estimation, so small as to be statistically null. Any such book, outside of the few that were unbagged immediately upon publication (and maybe not even then), and preserved properly, would need a press to achieve 9.8.”

Just Tap it in, give it a little Tappy, Tap, Tap and sell

My latest Image Direct (Farmhand) came without board or bag and is sealed in a thin grey wrapping almost exact fit to the comic. If you are collecting for condition you will not be happy. They are using the cheapest for mailing cost. Okay for reading. From Image Direct "All titles are placed in an opaque poly bag with a current backing board in front. Oversized titles and Image Plus catalogs are sent in the same type of polybag with no backing board. All subscriptions purchased with shipping included are sent by USPS bulk rate standard flat service. This generally takes 3- 12 business days for delivery. Tracking is not available for subscriptions." See they say here a current backing board but my recent first order did not have one.

9.8? That corner is toast. Blunt the knives and bend the forks! Smash the bottles and burn the corks! Chip the glasses and crack the plates! That's what Bilbo Baggins hates -

Just more data...from latest I have received Grade date: 3/9/18 Newton rings 8/29/18 Newton rings 8/29/18 Newton rings 8/29/18 Newton rings 9/7/18 Newton rings 9/25/18 Newton rings 10/4/18 Newton rings 10/16/18 Newton rings All the above also make brittle crackling noises when I apply slight bend side to side pressure on the case. 11/1/2018 no rings and no cracking noise when I apply slight bend pressure Everything above is 6 3/4" inner well width lower slot size. Maybe they are working through defective stock and finally have gone through it. I have received other comics with a different inner well width lower slot size of 7" through above dates and earlier with no newton rings. Everyone needs to focus on determining if you have newton rings blindfolded. You can feel the newton rings by gently applying slight flexing pressure on the case and listening for brittle crackling. I find this fascinating I can detect them without looking.
