  1. I think it’s a basis reset, although, when it comes to this stuff, I expect it doesn’t show up anywhere reportable.
  2. Care to let us see it? It's not infamous to me.
  3. And now, up pops Catawiki with an auction having something I might want to buy (for a change). The best laid plans...
  4. After considering the results of these sales, will the predominant affect on later sales in this auction be to: (a) have soaked up so much money, that they will stay relatively low; (b) have freed up underbidders’ available funds, thereby driving up prices later; (c) have little or no impact because the sub-markets at lower price points mostly involve different buyers; or (d) WTF do I know?
  5. For authenticate, I think you mean “chain of title”.
  6. Do you get a commission on these? If not, perhaps you should bid on them and try to flip ‘em
  7. Very nice, and very clever. Where did the idea come from, if you know?
  8. Wow, you beat my post while I was writing it. “Great minds think alike”.
  9. There may be something else going on here. An article in the Wall Street Journal involving fine art suggested that there may be too much debt out there involving fine art, thereby slowing down the market. We also know generally that wage growth has not kept up with overall economic growth, and personal debt is at an all time high. Add these together, and you may be seeing the beginning of an OA “recession” (not in the literal sense”).
  10. What I’m wondering is why the existence of roughs wasn’t mentioned in marital disclosure forms. If they were mentioned by Frank, she could be in trouble. If they weren’t mentioned, she could still be in trouble, but why were they left out?
  11. I had been led to believe they were done as computer graphics instead of by hand. Trust me on this one, you wouldn’t be impressed by my taste for them.
  12. I doubt I will be contributing much to the buy side. I stumbled on some grail pieces from a private seller. Unlikely anyone would be impressed with my targets. Never even thought they existed— literal grails.
  13. If you want a nice inexpensive Byrne page, someone named Rick (not me) Shiu aka Ricks original art gallery, on CAF, just listed the back page splash by Byrne for $300 from Lifelines. There are some others there, too, but this one, I think is the best of the bunch.
  14. As a follow up to what I wrote earlier, the Brothers just posted two mediocre Legends pages and an FF page, as well as an Atom page, on eBay. While their pricing follows the Brothers’ usual pattern, and none of them are top notch examples, you can see how those pages show more artistry than the Doom Patrol’s pages I saw (although they are a bit crowded).
  15. I just took a look at some of those pages, and I don’t think that the ones I saw are as good as what he did on X-Men. Not awful, but not as crisp or as strong a set of images. It’s similar, in a sense, to his Wonder Woman work (which is a very different style); not as good. But, there is other good Byrne work, like in Legends, which is excellent, and maybe there are some really nice Doom Patrol images out there. Still, if you just want to fill a gap...
  16. This one. Who were those people in the costumes? I do remember Gwen Stacy's death, but I didn't believe it. I had already seen too many deaths to think this one would stick.
  17. I have heard they also are not as safe. If you accidentally enter the wrong email address, you won’t have any recourse to get it back.
  18. Heritage put a lot of high end stuff up at the beginning of the auction. Would yours qualify as second hand Rose, so that if a potential buyer didn’t win his dream piece, yours may make a good secondary substitute? You know the drill: same artist, same character, etc. No guarantees it helps: most people have lots of interests. But it can’t hurt to check.
  19. Which is why I think Conway was wrong. Two flesh and blood people might behave like Conway said, but with comics, kids are projecting themselves into the superhero’s role. And what does a kid want? The perfect girl. What saved MJ is she wasn’t all that damaged, at least by today’s standards, and she looked hot.
  20. I got lucky. She likes Brenda Starr. Not a hot collectible. Now, if I can only get her interested in Bill Ward...
  21. Or, perhaps we have reached a tipping point in which the weight of all the art out there has finally caused spenders to take a second look at their portfolios and decided they have had enough with the steady stream of increasing prices over the last 30 years, and the beginning of the end of this game of musical chairs is finally coming to an end. Nah. But people could also be saving up to buy Christmas presents, and their loved ones just aren’t interested in Venom.
  22. I thnk that one transcends the label of comic art and edges into fine art territory. Congratulations.
  23. It may represent an increase in sniping. Why bid up early and see the prices rise overall? I am following a few things with interest, but I don't expect to bid until the end; and with the base price low, it gives me some comfort I can win relatively low.
  24. Dillin is my Sal. Now, how, exactly did Batman land that punch and kick with any power and without falling down?
