  1. I would agree, too. He was a very solid artist (I have one of his pages), but he didn't generate the "ooo..." factor. He also did a lot of work, which keeps the price down. One aspect of OA which I don't think gets raised much is the inherent tension between art which furthers a story and art which makes for a great display piece. Morrow's work is very good at moving the story along, and that Supergirl page undoubtedly did so. But, that doesn't rank highly in the OA market. Instead, people want splashy pages (pun intended). They rarely move a story along very well, but they do look great.
  2. Then why not just write "sold" under it? If you want, add an asterisk and explain on your site that this is done as a public accommodation to people who just like to look at art. Now, you've done your good deed without inadvertently doing a bad one, too.
  3. Robert Plunkett has a listed page which I knew he had sold about 7-8 months previously because I had asked about it. He said it was sold, but, it's still on the CAF site. (Ironically, the one I bought, he took down). I'm naming names because this one annoys me.
  4. Companies are always free collect taxes and remit to a State. They just could not be constitutionally required to do so. Some companies may be looking for favors, like Amazon, so they do it without the actual requirement. It's also possible, by the way, that they have engaged in some sort of continuous activity in NJ which arguably qualifies even without a physical presence. Since the Supreme Court is going to review the question of whether a State can tax internet sales next year, the "legal" question may be addressed again. Can we please get back to the fun stuff? Doing this during my "play time" is like bringing coals to Newcastle.
  5. If memory serves me, there is a new State law (but I don't really pay attention to the details).
  6. When it comes to taxes, New Jersey specializes in sucking money up like a Hoover. [Make any smart comment you want...NJ deserves the ridicule]
  7. Thanks. What about his later work, and his not-so-significant work?
  8. I wouldn't count on Smith going down. My likely suspects would be "journeymen" artists of the 1960's and the 1970's.
  9. I was just repeating what I had read elsewhere. More pointedly, have there been any downward trends you have noticed?
  10. I was just wondering whether you see anything trending down? From what I've read on these boards, Gil Kane and John Byrne art has dropped. In Bryne's case, it makes sense if only because there is so much of it. And despite the number of people who like Kane, he isn't one of my favorites. But getting back to what's offered, any likely drops?
  11. I don’t see why. I send newsletters I do to my professional printer, and he wants them. They are certainly a lot easier to use than EPS. CAF doesn’t allow uploads of PDFs?
  12. I was just wondering why you don't save them as pdf's. I thought they came out really well and are pretty compact. Out of curiosity, I then re-printed copies of one piece on ledger paper at 300 dpi and 600 dpi, and they were essentially indistinguishable with each other.
  13. Lately, I've been wondering about a related subject. Has anyone bought pencil work, made a mylar copy, and had the mylar inked? It might be pretty cool to have different inkers do their thing on the same pencils and see how their work differs.
  14. There aren't a lot of people spending that kind of money, for one. Second, you are referring to an iconic comic. When markets drop, they tend to be the last to sink. The post-War books until the end of the Golden Age will drop before Action 1 (special issues will hold out a while, too).
  15. They are in the list. Thanks. I obviously missed it.
  16. I was wondering why Cool lines doesn't appear in the list of dealers or anywhere else for checking/unchecking? Also, why are some boxes permanently "greyed out"?
  17. You also have assurance of quality. The cover is designed to sell the book, so the artist has to do his best to make sure it's a really good job. Commissions don't generally produce repeat business, so the artist can have a "bad day", which everyone does, and move on without ramifications.
  18. Is there a way to block specific dealers from popping up on a search? If not, can you include the feature?
  19. Of course I have opinions. Defacing artwork sucks. Misattribution is misrepresentation, and if intentional, it may be fraud. Let me add that including decals may not qualify as defacement or material misrepresentation if it doesn't actually affect the underlying art and if the decal itself is not part of the art. But, I still don't like it. What I don't want to do is comment with certainty about specific facts. They can sound terrible, but there may be another side to the story.
  20. I just wanted to mention that the Ross Andru page with Batman and the Spectre I mentioned earlier sold for...$2,031.50. Someone just got a very nice page at a fair price (almost exactly around what I expected, and in line with other Andru pages). But no, I wouldn't pay $750 to DBs for the Ross Andru page with the Phantom Stranger and Batman on it. It's just plain boring no matter who the artist is..
