  1. Just out of curiosity, would you other borders consider this a page to have a quarter-page splash with 4 regular panels, or a page with 5 miniature splashes? Does anyone consider a page with a full width horizontal panel with less than 25% of the page a splash at all?
  2. Any idea what to do with a box I have of old comic book fan magazines, like the Comics Reader?
  3. The next time you need examples for your videos, this is probably a good group to ask for samples from their collections. And no, I don’t know who did that sketch you showed in the first video, but don’t forget to warn buyers about the damaging impact of sunlight on marker worker.
  4. I like them. Ever pick up any published art with both of them?
  5. In case you want to further expand your horizons.
  6. That’s a pretty expensive proposition. I save scans off what I have, either at 300 or 600 dpi. I doubt I’m the only one. The publishers presumably have them, too, for reprint purposes. That isn’t enough?
  7. You know what they say: size doesn’t matter. It’s what you do with it that counts.
  8. It looks like it's more than that: https://www.facebook.com/straytoastersproject
  9. Thank you to everyone on this board who has provided me with a means to socialize without fear of catching Coronavirus.
  10. What about the stray toasters project? Stray Toasters Project @straytoastersproject · Visual Arts
  11. Also keep a watchful eye out for great War stories pages not written by Kanigher. Quite a number of artists (including Kirby) saw action during WW II, like Orlando, and you can sometimes feel the grit of war behind the pencils and inks (toned down to satisfy the Comics Code Authority, of course).
  12. But so much of these boards are about the money, even while a number of people have commented that great art is not synonyous with high prices. Besides, people like the show for what it is. Perhaps they might consider episodes with a "teardown" of some piece or the other. What is it, other than the artist's name on a page, that makes the page mediocre, great, or lousy?
  13. Aren't you being a little rough on Glen? Besides, what's so terrible about, say, suggesting Heck's romance work (top notch) as compared to his much more expensive Marvel work?
  14. Well, in that case, pencil me in for anything with the Phantom Stranger on it. If its shown up on CAT, or the auctions, or the CAF "for sale" sections, I've almost certainly seen it, but, I'm always willing to look again. Since I already have representative pieces of all the top artists who have drawn the character with any regularity (I think), I am particularly interested in the obscure and offbeat, instead of still another Jim Aparo page. But again, a cool page is always something which will draw my attention.
  15. Outstanding listing effort and work. Although, I don't think I would mind if your listing included the immoral ones.
  16. Glen, It was funny. I don't think any offence was intended. Personally, I'm more interested in obscure artists who do good work, or the forgotten old timers who did. When was the last time anyone paid attention to Joe Orlando, for example? Or the lost potential of Scott Clarke? Stuff's cheaper, too.
  17. Are you suggesting that comic art conventions are not providing an essential service? What do we kill next, Shake Shack?
  18. Agreed. My only real complaint was lack of interesting new material.
  19. We are splitting hairs. There is no practical difference between a violation which won’t be enforced and no violation.
  20. It depends on what the blue lines are. Sometimes, the original is computer generated, and inking is over the computer generated blue lines (which don’t show up in print). Sometimes, there are original pencil drawings that are scanned in, and the inker inks those blue lines. For older pieces, however, there were pencillers who pencilled using blue pencils, and the inks are over genuine pencils. Basically, you should ask for details if you can’t otherwise find the answer.
  21. I just wanted to throw out the point that great artists are still great artists. So for those who want to find great art, but not pay these prices, yet need guidance, you can always look what they did on other books, preferably around the same period.
  22. Technically, I disagree. Fair use is an affirmative defense to copyright violation, established on a case by case basis. It is not “educational”, for purposes of “criticism or comment”, or scholarly, for examples. It is too new to be in the public domain. So, if copied, it is a violation—but no one is going to pursue you for the violation unless you decide you want to sell it. No harm. No foul.
