Oh wow, I can't believe I missed Amazing Spider-Man 300 in that list. In any case, musicmeta...you were bang on in your post 18 years ago.

I agree, but I also think there are always going to be those "Hidden Jewels" that somehow defy the trends, but having those is the key.

Will something happen in the future to turn the market around? Sure. But don't ask me what it will be.

    I have no idea. http://boards.collectors-society.com/images//graemlins/grin.gif

We now know we all got a huge jolt when Disney bought Marvel and started making spectacular movies bringing the Marvel Universe to the masses just a little while after JoeCollector said movies were winding down. More recently the Sports Card collectors realizing the rarity of a 9.8 comic against the thousands of Gem Mints out there may be a better bet long term. The hobby has a long history of getting kicked with a frozen boot time and time again to keep it going. I can't see any reason why this won't change.

I always thought this issue was an especially awesome cover at the time it came out not knowing who it was stalking the X-men.

This book continues to age well like fine wine, only looking better every-time we see it.

That black cover edge really brings out the center and showcases the extreme dire plight the X-men are in!

Proud to have a couple issues of this amazing breathtaking key moment in time.

Anyone know if those ticks on the spine could be pressed out on a black cover like that?

If the tick is breaking color, I don't think it can be pressed out. I know how you feel...I have a few nice ultra expensive books that could be a 9.8 if not for that tick. So, hoping I'm wrong if anyone else wants to chime in?

  5. I'd probably go with the majority here as I'm sure they have good reasons for going Standard...by I bag my Silver in Silver Age bags and my moderns in modern. Just my preference. I do have some difficulty removing them...have to be careful. However, I rarely remove them. Most will stay that way until I decide to re-bag them in 10 - 15 years. I've got 18,000 to re-bag and I think to date I've done about 1400 only. But I don't mind...it is a hobby after all. Something to do in my spare time.

Seriously though, how did you know when that other thread started? Was it really you just guessing right? Just a shot in the dark?... or maybe something caught your attention triggering optimism?

Btw anyone have the Syfy channel right now on the us Eastern time zone there's a movie on now relevant to this thread!

I genuinely felt Hulk 181 had legs to go higher due to the popularity of Wolverine and kind of looked at that against what had already happened to Superman's 1st appearance Action 1 and Batman. I just took a a shot at a number and basically lucked out. I also tend to ignore people who are negative insofar as how long this hobby will last and that's why I knew it would go up....not down...or stay where it is. I'm that way because I've been hearing it ever since I started collecting 40 years ago.

Also, around the same time there was a thread about the coming demise of comic collecting and remember posting there is always something that happens, that keeps the hobby going. This was (obviously) after Overstreet, cons and CGC but before Disney bought Marvel and obviously way before sports cards collectors got involved in going after high grade 9.8's. Not sure what the next big leap will be, but I'm sure it will be something.

6.0...I’m still new to the whole gist of cleaning and pressing, but could this book benefit from one?

    IMO...no

gocollect has this sitting at $46 as a 6.0. With a clean and press, many of the defects will still be there. If you somehow come out with an 8.0 you will then have an $80.00 book. But, I'm pretty sure it's going to cost more than $34 to do the work. Admittedly, I don't have a lot of experience either on this...but looking at the dollars involved, I don't feel it's worth it. I would however be interested in hearing other opinions.
