Also, wtf is suing these people supposed to accomplish?  Are they not being criminally prosecuted?

Does CGC think this move "protects" their good name?  'Cause I don't think it does....

Criminal prosecution is a deterrent to employees going rogue. Given this guy has admitted to a CGC investigator some of his shenanigans, I would hope CGC will get local law enforcement involved in the future.

The "small areas of color touch" is very misleading. CGC should really make it a point to distinguish the degree and amount of color touch properly. Some books labeled with small amount of CT have only a couple dots on the spine while others have long black markered areas on the spine and on one of the edges.  Huge difference!

Agreed. From Bry's 1st video when he opened the book up, that was not a "small" amount of color touch!

Regarding the new label not having the tape note, that could just be the result of CGC's recent change to include fewer non-restoration related notes on the label (and from what I understand tape isn't typically considered restoration by CGC). I didn't check to see if the new label number is visible in the video, but if it is, and you looked it up on CGC's Verify CGC Certification page, the grader's notes should (at least in theory; although no guarantees, I guess) point it out if it's still there.

Thanks for the tip regarding the tape. I looked up the notes for both the before and after grades and see that tape was noted the 2nd time around but not noted on the label. Here are the notes for both:

  4. I saw it and the movie was fine. Nothing special, but definitely not bad. Black Adam is going to be a player in the DCEU and it was a good introduction to a character I frankly did not know too much about. The only comic book I read with him in it was DC Comics Presents 49 so my knowledge was pretty limited. I was stoked when the post-credit scene came on. After all the WB turmoil, they finally got something right!

  5. $39.5K for a 1.5 :whatthe:. There's a CGC 2.0 (CR-OW pages) ending tomorrow from Heritage that's at $23K right now. I wonder how this sale will influence the final price on the 2.0 hm. The most recent Heritage sales for a 2.0 were $33,600 in March and $38,400 in January.

  6. I finally got to the theatre today and watched this film and I have to say I really enjoyed it it. The only weak spot was the final act which seemed kind of out of character to the preceding portions of the film. I absolutely loved that we finally had Batman as the Dark Knight Detective. The movie was predominantly him and Jim Gordon trying to figure out the Riddler. They retconned Catwoman's backstory, but more importantly her interaction with Batman was still great. Pattinson was absolutely fine as Bruce Wayne going into year 2 of "Project Batman". This was better than any run of the mill Marvel film.

I've been in self imposed ASM 300 exile since late 2000. Every time I see the cover to the book I just want to scream - still do

    Here is my boring vent:

I picked up ASM 300 as a kid the day it hit comic shops in 1988.  My local shop must have had 300-400 copies and I gently dug through them until I found  a copy that met my very rigid standards.   It was pristine (still is) and I purchased a Mylar and board at the same time to protect it as I often did  on books that cost what was for me a lot of money.

Knowing how difficult it was to find double sized issues in perfect condition I never read my personal copy.  In 2000 while culling books for my first CGC submission I gave ASM 300 a then fresh look and as not often happens it was a perfect as I recalled. I figured a 9.9 was possible - something I never thought on any other sub since.

When I got the submission back and opened the box, these were days before online grades were available, I was heart broken then angered after seeing a 9.6. Yes CGC was very strict in those early days but I too was a harsh grader. Must have got the CGC grader of death. Today when a book is submitted you can get graders notes not sure if they existed back in 2000. I packed up the book and for the next 21 years tried to forget this kick to my nads by CGC and did not set eyes on it again until today.

Looked at through the case with my 12x jewelers loop this morning and all looks perfect. Spine is tight and flat and blemish free, edges are all razor sharp and surface and gloss on both sides appears flawless. Earlier today I compared it to 40 other various CGC 9.8's (all newest CGC label) and this book beat them all, some by a wide margin.  I do find a decent amount of  CGC 9.8's i purchased the last 5 years (in the newest slabs) would  have only been strong 9.6's back in the earliest days. Which is why when I can I try to only purchase in person, "buy the book not the slab" in effect.

I gave thought to cracking it out and re-submitting but afraid I'd damage it, also like some collectors I favor the old-school CGC labels or Flips as they are referred to in trading card grading world.

Here's a scan, pardon the cut off top+bottom and the redacted barcode.

I'd like to say I feel better getting this off my chest but I don't. Oh well...

Your 9.6 is a beauty! I understand your pain. I've subbed books I've thought were 9.8 or better and been disappointed when getting a lower grade. Sure you can resubmit them, but there's always the risk of damage in transit and handling and getting a lower grade. I've seen many YouTube videos of people who tried the crack, press and resub game and end up with the same or worse grade more times than not.

For your reference, between a 9.6 and 9.8, my 2 originally bought at the LCS when they came out copies are shown on page 49 of this thread. One is a 9.6 and the other is a 9.8. The only difference per the grader's notes was color breaking light stress lines on the back cover 0f the 9.6. They were on the back cover spine. My 9.8 had no grader's notes.

Not if you write EX all over the box in bold, sorry yours took so long.  Also, what method did you use to ship it?  More than two weeks just to get to Florida?

I'm not trying to rub salt in the wound here, but this package was delivered and signed for by CGC on 6/14, and it's already at Grading/QC.

I shipped from outside the US, so it took a bit longer. I did write EX on the front and back. C'est la vie.

  9. My 1st Express tier submission:

    Mailed out: 4/16/21

Delivered per package tracking to CGC's PO Box: 5/3/21

Delivered to facility: 5/11/21 (I just checked each day with my tracking # to see when it finally got delivered onsite)

    Received: 6/22/21

Is it normal for this much time between delivery and entering into the system for an Express sub? Hopefully things speed up now after it's been received.

  10. The green ink on the lettering indicates it's a 1st print. I looked on Go Collect and there is no upc code on the front of any of the 14 printings of this book that they show. Double-checking: is the upc sticker on the book or on the plastic bag the book is in? If it's on the book, it might have been put there by the retailer. Just a guess on my part.

I've seen the Snyder cut and was thoroughly satisfied. The theatrical version was just a hack job when you see what Snyder wanted. You can easily see the scenes Whedon added on that Snyder excluded from what he wanted. Pretty much each character's purpose and motivation was fleshed out over the 4 hour cut versus what we got in the theatre. The exceptions were Batman and the Flash where we didn't get much over what we saw in the theatrical release. There's a lot more heart to the film, especially with regards to Superman and Cyborg. I guess that may be why Ray Fisher hates Joss Whedon.

The 4th world stuff was lacking in the theatrical release, but much more fleshed out to a more satisfactory level in the Snyder cut. You give us Steppenwolf as the big bad in the theatrical release and not his motivation? Answered here.

Epilogue is lengthy and a must see. I think there were many additional shots done for this, however they did expand on one of the actual extra scenes presented in  the theatrical release (yacht scene) which I liked. I would love to see more of this character since he was also prominent elsewhere in the epilogue. Also pleasantly surprised to see references to 2 heroes not mentioned in the theatrical cut.
