The amazing thing about this is the very little amount of time I actually spent with my "detective" work. Based on the scam itself, the style, the elements, having nothing more than that, the "vibe" of whole thing, I knew exactly what and where to look for the clues. It didn't take any real digging, no real sleuthing, and shockingly little time and effort. Once you figure out how they think based on the "shot", it's easy to find all the nails for the coffin.

Like all cons, he even attempted to explain his feedback history:

Well whadda'ya know? I knew I saw the Hulk 1-6 someplace before. Just had to keep looking; July 12th:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Incredible-Hulk-1-2-3-4-5-6-Full-Run-Lot-Jack-Kirby-Ditko-Stan-Lee-Full-Run-Lot-/164274645577?hash=item263f882a49%3Ag%3AWh0AAOSwd71e~5Zb&nma=true&si=E8od8oRKDZdprrtjzMjvScVHsRw%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

And the winner of that NeatStuff listing, the six Hulks that appear verbatim in Floppy B's listing, just happens to be the HIGH BIDDER in Floppy B's debacle.

    https://www.ebay.com/bfl/viewbids/164274645577?item=164274645577&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565

So Either one of two possibilities are in play.

The bidder with 844 feedbacks is bidding on FloppyB's listing because he recognizes the books he already bought from NeatStuff in July, and this is some form of entrapment, for criminal purposes, or the winner of those books is FloppyBubbles and he's shilling this lot using the same account he won the Hulks from Neatstuff with.

Nice work. The cover writings and stains match the Neatstuff auction perfectly.  I also messaged this guy and he said he inherited this from his grandfather who "died several years ago." That is an absolute lie, so everything else can expected to be a lie.

Cerebus #1 does not have the fan base as Tmnt does from the cartons to the toys or Nickelodeon.. Cerebus is a niche book Tmnt 1 is a grail book big big difference..

When Neil Gaiman lists you as a grail, I don't think you can count Cerebus out.

Considering the CGC 9.8 graded condition levels of these Cerebus books here, my opinion is that they mostly seem to be running on the low side at only around double top of guide for uber high grade copies.  As usual, there are a few outliers like Cerebus 11, 16, and 19 which is most likely impacted due to a slightly lower census count.  (shrug)

Final price on the Cerebus 3 seem to have gone pretty low at only $201 in CGC 9.4 graded condition, especially since top of guide in 9.2 NM- has the book listed at $240.  :(

All I can say to the original poster here is that if you really think you could have gotten Cerebus 3 in CGC 9.4 graded condition at a 40% discount to top of guide or a Cerebus 7 in CGC 9.8 graded condtion at almost 50% discount from top of 9.2 guide, etc., then you must have been expecting a very soft and weak cerebus market.  hm

I see many of these books have been relisted or someone else is looking to unload some high grade Cerebus issues.

  6. According to another thread and Kevin Boyd, he said Sim told him the tale of the 400 damaged #1 issues was untrue.

"Dave said he has no idea where the 400 damaged copy rumour began, but it isn't true (as far as he knows). There is the possibility that Harry Kremer may have received 400 damaged copies, or they were damaged at his store at a later date (if so Harry didn't tell him)."

  7. Great research Rosland.  If the 9.6 isn't a Signature Series resubmission, then it's looking more and more like an error.

To have a 9.6 come out of the wild AND get signed by Sim, all in the past few months is highly doubtful.

Curious, Where did you pick it up from? I have a high grade run of Cerebus, but have not been able to find anything higher then a 8.5 for a decent price. Maybe I can add another site to my list that I can buy from.

    I purchased through Heritage Auctions.

Congratulations on the 9.4! Are you also the person getting the early 9.8's?

It's possible the third 9.4 is out there and has been resubbed. Wish I knew the S/N of it.

I also seem to remember that Sim put away 20 copies of Cerebus 1 and then had to give the ex-wife half of them.

Are there 10 more quality copies out there?

Thank you.  I do like buying undervalued and high grade early Cerebus issues.

For CGC resubmissions, a Sim file copy cannot remain a Sim file copy unless it is still in the slab.  If it remains in the slab, then the old label SHOULD be removed from the census.

There has been no change to the census for 9.4 Sim file copies or ANY copy of a Cerebus #1 graded 9.0 or higher.  This leads me to believe the recent 9.6 was not a resubmission.

  10. This is not the answer.  I bought the 9.4 file copy in September and have not resubmitted it.  If someone did resubmit a signed Sim file copy to CGC, it would have to remain in the slab and then the old label would certainly be removed from the census.

Prior to the CGC 9.6 appearing in the census, there were 19 CGC copies of Cerebus #1 in 9.0 or better.  This has not changed, so it appears the improbable CGC 9.6 copy came from the wild.

  11. It's widely quoted that hundreds of books from the 2,000 print run on Cerebus #1 were poorly printed, so this further adds to the difficulty of obtaining a high grade copy.

Cerebus will likely never be as popular as Wolverine (Hulk #181), but as far as scarcity, there can't be more than two dozen Cerebus #1 books in near mint condition.
