  1. I would be the only comic shop in some sixty miles if I took the plunge but I'm slow rolling it until I see how the market is. I'm hoping the consignment route works well. No upfront costs and no unsold stuff to deal with.
  2. One of six sections will be comic/star trek/star wars sort of themed. Not planning on carrying new stuff but will have lots of TPBs and a few boxes of cheaper comics. Possibly supplies and the like. Current thinking is to try and push consignments so I don't have money tied up in merchandise. Half clubhouse, half showroom comes to mind. https://www.point2homes.com/US/Commercial-For-Sale/AZ/Bisbee-CCD/Bisbee-outside-of-city/214-Bisbee-Road/73793077.html
  3. In just over a hour, I close on a long time dream. I'm purchasing a mixed use building that eventually will be half shop and half my residence. I've been wanting such a place for well over thirty years. In a strange turn of events, I'd actually come to Bisbee to look at what was supposed to be an absentee investment that didn't work out and it was only a passing comment from someone that led me to it. I have commitments in Vegas thru mid September, so I probably won't open anything until late October. I'm playing with the idea of opening entirely Christmas themed and then reopening in January. One problem I have is there is a Keto bakery occupying about 15% of the space with a lease through the end of the year. We are negotiating an extension but I am not sure they want to stay. Assuming they stay, that leaves me about two thousand square feet, divided into six rooms. I've probably drawn out a few dozen layouts but none thrill me, nor have I come up with a.catchy name. I figure if worse come to worse, I can split the building in two and simply rent the front and live in the back. It will be paid for, and taxes are $150 a month. There is a large enclosed veranda that is perfect for an endless garage sale sort of enterprise. Forty minutes to go....
  4. Haven't read it in years but I really liked the original series. The color hard covers from the mid 1980s were amazing. Richard worked endlessly, promoting this and his other books. I'm glad it seems to have paid off for him.
  5. I sold Christmas Cards a few years. The first week I had the catalog, I knocked on doors forever and got about three sales. Friends and family bought a couple and I was almost at the 12 boxes I needed to get the prize I wanted. Then fate stepped in. My Aunt offered to take the catalog to her office where some two hundred females feared her tyrannical management style. I was disappointed when she only sold a couple dozen for me. She was great for Cub Scout candy and Girl Scout cookies. Then I was visiting relatives and a neighbor had the rocket kit I was hoping to get. It was garbage, not what I expected. I ended up taking a dollar a box instead of the prizes.
  6. On the one hand, you have a horrible commute to a job you aren't in love with, but that pays well and has good benefits. On the other, you get to throw money into an iffy situation with no pension, vacations or benefits.
  7. I spent a lot of time around Phil, but never really talked to him. It was sad watching him waste away and his skin turning yellow.

Really? They somehow managed to fill thousands of orders over seven years and the first time they mess up you go on a rant about their customer service? I doubt they will miss you.
  9. Haven't read it in years. It didn't sell in my shops and I can't think of the last time any asked for back issues. A fun part of my boyhood, but both I and the world have moved on.
  10. Can Supes be too Apple-pieish? I don't particularly care for either cover. I like the original Superman 14 cover, not so much Ordways homage to it.
  11. Devil Dinosaur and his 3D Battle of the Planets would have been huge in the 1950s.
  12. The last episode of Animal Kingdom lays out a perfect plan to steal such a public statue.
  13. Learn to navigate mycomicshop.com. You can see what they are selling a particular book for, and also what they are paying for the same books. You can also search their auctions to see what books went for. It's an invaluable tool.
  14. I can't think of any reason not to slab Action #1.
  15. It's listed in OS, but I don't recall the issue the poster is in.
  16. It didn't kill Hugh Jackmans career.
