  1. I think they might have done better if they charged more for the tables and less admission. $20 for a show with no guests or attractions seems lame.
  2. Except for a few indies, most newsstand comics prior to the mid 1990s don't bring much of a premium over the DM versions, if any.
  3. He emailed me and offered a $12 refund and $10 future credit. Not sure I'll use the credit, but appreciate the offer.
  4. Not really important, but some of my keys are Superman 14, multiple Spidey 14s, multiple Avengers 1 and 4, some HG early JLA, early FFs and Spideys, All Winners 1 ,All Select 1, some Marvel Mysterys, bunch of Timley Captain Americas, some Schomburg Nedors. Typical stuff.
  5. Interesting idea. Not sure putting all ones eggs in a single basket is best, but intriguing.
  6. Grifter Handbook, Page 26 1)Advertise something rare. 2) Get someone interested 3) Have confederate call with a sight unseen offer much higher than your asking price. 4) Close the sale. Rinse and repeat. Works when set up at shows, as well.
  7. Came into an unexpected windfall. It was actually expected but the size of it was a shock. I was already well prepared for retirement and don't have any immediate needs or even wants. My current thoughts are to use some of it buy 12-20 CGC books, most likely SA Marvels but if a classic GA cover came along, I might go for it. Suggestions for either individual candidates or an entire portfolio are most welcome. Portfolios should have at least eight, and less than 25 books. Might consider some artwork.
  8. Even if CGC is completely blameless for this situation, it's reputation is , as always, at stake. If nothing else, it owes itself the obligation to insure dealers aren't taking advantage of established pipelines to getting its product.
  9. Sounds like your comics need more discipline.
  10. I quit going to SD in 1988 and don't miss it at all. I like what the Torpedo folks are doing, but I'm not sure why they chose that time and place.
  11. Can't help with the want list, but remember anything they list on eBay can be bought off their site for less.
  12. You should have turned to the guy and said "I'll take your offer, just let me finish paying for them first."
  13. I just received a package from a very well known dealer. Five slabs and 53 raw books. The total purchase was a bit over $400 and he charged $56 for shipping. Site said $8 for first slab and $3 each additional. Raw books were to be $5 for first and $1 for each additional. Says he would combine shipping to make it fair, or words to that effect. I could have shipped them much cheaper, but that's not really my complaint. Of the 53 raw books, four had plastic bags and the rest were raw. Mostly BA books, with a few early Copper( early Miller DD) It doesn't say anything about this on the site, but in this day and age I can't believe a dealer doesn't have his stock in plastic bags as a minimum. None of the slabs had any bags. I don't believe I'll be buying from him again.
  14. CGC can not be happy that their customers are being abused like this. If only there was something they could do about it. If I understand this, people paid upfront to get their books graded and either Paradise sat on the books and didn't ship them or sent them to CGC without paying them. At a minimum, CGC and others should put a moratorium on accepting new submissions.
  15. I'm surprised by this whole situation, but even more surprised Peter hasn't moved to compensate these people. Like everyone, I'm not aware of all the circumstances, but this is inexcusable and rapidly approaching a reputation destroying scenario. I've always been impressed by Pete and his crew. I sincerely hope my faith wasn't misplaced. Anyone reading this thread should be hesitant about dropping their books off at their local shop, and CGC can't be happy about it.
  16. I currently have a Galaxa game in my dining room and an early Ms. Pac Man in storage. Someday I'll have a game room in my house, but I figure I should get the house first.
  17. If I had two fairly rare comics and consigned them to someone, I could price them accurately and hope both sell, or I could price one at 20X value and the other at 5X value. An uninformed consumer stumbling across the two listings would think the one at 5X was an absolute steal. Then after it sells, I lower the first one to 4X and anyone checking past sales sees it is 20% cheaper than the previous sale- hence a bargain. Then I get a new tattoo or buy some turquois.
  18. You give them a credit card number. They charge you before they grade it.
  19. That's a horrible, non-answer. Sounds like you are covered if the place burns down. That's good, but what happens if your art is damaged by negligence?
  20. I've had CIA for years. This is my first claim and so far everything seems okay. All State covered my non-collectible damage and aside from one hiccup, everything went smooth. All State wanted crazy money for a rider for my comics. I did have a rider with them for an original Peter Max thing I own, but I dropped it when I got CIA.
