  1. Not going to pretend to any expertise, but as a long time collector, I've never seen the value in them.
  2. If pressing is evil, and CGC provides pressing, is it fair to say CGC is evil?
  3. I had no idea Mr Fleisher ended up getting his Doctorate and spent his adult life helping non profits, mostly in Africa. Bug fck crazy, indeed.
  4. Fleisher was a great writer for his era, and engaged in some very entertaining public feuds. Well worth tracking down, imo.
  5. You start with some jelly to attract flies, trade up to a spider, and so on
  6. I bought a Lost In Space lunchbox that had the original owners name and address in it. It was only a few minutes from my house and a look in the phonebook showed someone with the same last name living there. I called them and got a machine. I explained I'd found the lunchbox and was wondering if they might have other 1960s stuff that they might want to sell. A couple days later I got a call from a rather deaf old women who had no idea what I was asking her. I never followed up.
  7. I'm surprised to here that. I have three blank covers that Trimpe sketched the Hulk 181 scene on. Are you saying the 9.4 and the 9.8 will sell for the same amount, or even in the same ballpark?
  8. If this happened to me, I'd be raising hell about the framers. Outing him for any and all to see, calling the BBB and seeing if it were part of a larger company. I'd also contact their landlord. He has a vested interest in seeing his tenants are properly insured. At worst, filing a case in small claims court. What excuse did they give that renders them blameless?
  9. Watching Judge Judy, I get the impression many insurance companies don't send out bills.
  10. I'd also use it after grading, to ensure the book just graded wasn't previously in a PLOD.
  11. I am of the opinion CGC and the other companies should mark each book with a serial number, in invisible ink. Most disagree.
  12. Suppose you consigned these, instead. You ship them and CIS covers the books or the art in shipping. They arrive and two days later the persons dogs rip them to shreds. Are they covered? By the way, your collectors policy covers your books, but if you sell extensively on ebay, they may not fully cover your shipping. The person I spoke to told me there is no exact number that changes a collector into a dealer, but if you are a power seller selling mostly comics, you need a dealers policy . Not a collectors. I'm not 100% thrilled with CIS. They are giving me problems on a few items from my flood, but overall they have been pretty damn good.
  13. In a word, yes. Not only were sales better, but by 1965, people were actively speculating and putting away multiple copies. In 1966, a 100 copies bought wholesale cost $8.00. Storage was actually a bigger issue than cost. I remember a correspondence with a Canadian dealer( Max Seeley?) about how he had to move apartments every two or three years. I. The days before boxes, he stored his comics vertically. He had photos of stacks of books everywhere.
  14. Cgc has its own insurance, as should any party engaged in pressing your books. I wouldn't send books to a witness that didn't carry insurance. If I send books to a consignment site, I expect they have insurance and if they lose a book ,that they are responsible. Not seeing an issue, beyond unrealistic expectations. Read your policy and ask questions if you aren't clear. Get yourself an attorney and sue the people who screwed up.
  15. I'm not sure I agree with your assessment. Your issue is with the shop, it seems to me.
  16. Five hours away from the real world.
  17. Never run with the herd. Nothing good happens when you do.
  18. You bought a book that was red hot because of movie appeal and can't understand that it cooled down?
  19. Conan is a valued member, looking to make our experiences with his shop better for everyone. How is this not the right place? Where would you suggest he does this?
  20. Rest in peace. He always did right by me.
  21. Possible problem I don't see addressed. I make a $200 offer on a $250 book on Monday. Consigner doesn't respond until Sunday. A B.O. should have an expiration date.
  22. Spring for $20 and protect all the books with some sort of bag and board. This is one of the best sites to find a books value - www.mycomicshop.com
  23. I think the biggest thing is to avoid temperature swings. Particularly sudden violent swings. A bank may keep the vault at 70 while open, but over a three day weekend with no HVAC ,it can be twenty degrees different, or more.
