  2. It was great to see some familiar faces today. The show seemed like it had better attendance that even some pre-pandemic art cons. I think this location was a vast improvement. Easy to get to from the city (much thanks!) and a nice sized room. Some random pics I took- https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/NKVaYQFvjGNM5mfGHW4e4QIHg6CcQYCVtBiBptgDjWN Dealer's name is on the file name. I don't have prices for anything, but you can reach out to them.
  3. Pre-2020, you could see big swings under 100K, but there seemed to be some price compression up above 100K where the air got thinner. That seems to have completely gone away, and all of the "if this is x, that should be y" calculus that ruled the five-figure market seems to be reaching further upward.
  4. Near perfect? Crom laughs at you. This isn't a movie. It's a blueprint for living.
  5. Comic art. And lunch. Those are the only allowed discussion topics.
  6. OMG. I don't have to walk through a wilderness from the bus stop this time. Glorious! https://www.google.com/maps/dir/New+York,+NY+10003/La+Quinta+Inn+%26+Suites+by+Wyndham+Secaucus+Meadowlands,+350+Lighting+Way,+Secaucus,+NJ+07094/@40.7904883,-74.0501714,361m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x89c2599949443977:0x42c5cab8e0deaf19!2m2!1d-73.9874105!2d40.7322535!1m5!1m1!1s0x89c257e90e40c211:0x2bf30b351431f7d3!2m2!1d-74.0497583!2d40.7898483!3e3
  7. Got the new Serial limited hardcover from Terry Moore today… with a print!
  8. Just smack it down on the floor a few times. That will get it centered properly. (Also, look behind you because Yoda 'bout to sneak attack!)
  9. If you're talking about that thin cardboard-colored chipboard, you will want to swap that out for buffered mat board. The poly bags and Itoyas are fine for anything sub $1k or post 2000. Otherwise, use mylar.
  10. Can the person who knows where all of the art is reach out to me? Seriously. I think I'm finally ready. Probably the same person that briefs each new President about Area 51. Does the Cabal have a secretarial opening? Maybe a mascot...? Like a Snapper Carr type. I can be that guy!
  11. Comic Art Tracker finds all of the art quickly I sit on the beach Dedicated to @NicoV
  12. If all this hype is to be believed, you soon won't be! Me neither. That's not the sound of her wings... It's the sound of us all getting priced out.
  13. It's nice and all, and I would like to own it for a fair price... but this is ridiculous hype for two small panels of Dream and Death. First appearance fever taking over the hobby it seems. I'd categorize this as a C page in relation to others in the same book -- B+ for New Yorkers and fans of Wash Sq. But I'm sure a bunch of uninformed collectors with Netflix fever will bid this up, thereby taking a huge indelible dump on the whole Sandman category.
  14. All closed up for this year. But the Morlock thread lives on throughout the year.
  15. Welcome back fellow lichen-eating cave dwellers! I apologize profusely for the delay in tallying the results. I was kidnapped by an Englishman and taken to the past in his time machine carriage to open wax and foil packs in order to find something called a "rookie card". I dunno. Feels like a jock thing to me. On to the winners! In the PUBLISHED category, we have a tie! In no particular order... @Carlo M soars to the top with his Lashley Uncanny X-Men page -- while @hmendryk buries the hatchet with his Glenn Fabry Bait cover -- In the UNPUBLISHED category, @Brian Peck goes ride or die with his Carlos Dearmas Ghost Rider! In our recurring TASTE MAKER category, @hmendryk clinches the win with their discerning eyeball palate. They bought the most best cheap stuff this year. Huzzah! And in the I JUST COULDN'T HOLD IT category (sponsored this year by Donnie Cates), @Benedict Judas Hel wins with his OHOTMU JRJR and JR urinating Mr. Hyde pinup. Congratulations! This pretty much sums up what COVID, crypto, and card collectors have done to comic art prices lately. That's it for another year in darkness, fellow Morlocks. Participation was down this year.. I guess everyone effed off to FB and Instagram. So put out the call for next year's MORLEYS! Now back to your mines!
  16. Last weekend to share your best budget buys for this year. Tell your friends!
  17. Hey all, just a heads up about this year's Best of... BUDGET EDITION thread over in the OA section. Hope to see some of these nice sketch covers posted in there!
  18. This year's discussion thread sponsored by The Watcher. The o.g. black hole collector. He doesn't post. He just watches. He's a little pervy. Is he winking at me? I don't even know. Some great pieces sold on ebay under $700 this year- https://www.ebay.com/b/Original-Comic-Art/3984/bn_2310945?rt=nc&mag=1&campid=5338116315&customid=CGCForum&LH_Sold=1&_dmd=1&toolid=10001&_sop=16&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&_udhi=700 and Heritage- https://comics.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?Ns=Time|1||Lot+No|0&Nf=Price|LTEQ+700&N=790+231+52+1067&ic4=SortBy-071515 and more to discover on Comic Art Tracker- https://comicarttracker.com/search So go tell your friends to come over and post!
  19. In a world... Where all of the crypto coins have already been mined and GPUs are now used as Christmas tree ornaments, Where inflation is something that only happens at a Thanksgiving meal, and the latest OA livestream craze is opening a ZIP file containing... something you won't ever understand because you're too old, comes the end-of-the-year original art review for cave-dwelling mouth-breathers with bad teeth. Yes, folks, this year's fifth annual Best of 2021 BUDGET EDITION is now christened... THE MORLEYS (...in deference to the Morlock Tunnel thread popularized by our very own Uber-Morlock @RBerman !) As always, THE MORLEYS (née BUDGET EDITION) is not intended to compete with, but rather to supplement the CAF Best Of 2021. So all of you Eloi go over there and vote on your fancy art! Even though Morlocks have terrible vision, THE MORLEYS is intended to show the breadth and quality of comic art that can be had for relative bargains. Thinking back to myself as a younger comic collector, I wish someone had taken my be the hand over to Artists Alley, pointed, and said, "UG, UGG, UKK, UG." Or rather, "Look! One of a kind art that you can own!" So hopefully, this review will be something you can steer new folks to on social media. Even a devolving, post-Victorian society has a few RULES... RULES FOR ENTRY: Post ONE PIECE OF ART per reply. This is your entry. There are two categories: PUBLISHED and UNPUBLISHED. Type one of these at the TOP of your entry. Attach the image so that it shows in the reply. Type the artist and title-issue-page (if published). Don't include any info about how you acquired it or the piece's "story". Save that for your CAF or the Discussion Thread. We don't want people swayed by your powerful prose. Let the art stand on its own. (However, you CAN link to the piece on your CAF so that people can read more about it there.) You cannot have paid more than $700 for the art. (Because $700 is something most comic collectors could pull off in a month or two of patience and savings.) This price must include Buyer's Premium. But this year, sales tax, shipping, handling, and insurance are NOT factored in. Convention entry fees are not relevant. No, we cannot verify your purchase price. We are on the honor system here. And let's leave off items that you acquired within a larger group purchase unless they were specifically itemized. Again, honor system! No more than THREE entries per person. You can post any combination of PUBLISHED or UNPUBLISHED as long as you do not post more than THREE pieces total. -- But again, only post ONE PIECE PER REPLY so we can vote properly. Illustration, game, movie, original animation, and merchandise art are all eligible. Color guides with original colors are eligible. Other all-stat or production pieces are not. You must have acquired the piece during 2021. If you paid for it, but it hasn't arrived yet, it is still eligible. VOTING: Voting opens as soon as a piece is posted! So post early to get more eyeballs on your piece. Click the LIKE button in the bottom right corner of the entries you like. You can LIKE as many entries as you want. Voting and entries will close the night of January 9. Winners will probably be visible, but I will tally things up January 10 or 11 and post near the end of the thread. If you want to discuss anything, please post in the other Discussion thread. Ideally, I'd like the art to stand alone here. Now, get to posting! But keep the lights dim. My eyes are sensitive.
  20. Not sure if this was part of the main auction or a separate sale, but this is a significant number on this Adams Superman- https://www.comicconnect.com/item/937075?tzf=1 Beautiful piece that was on the wall during the last show. Congrats to the new owner!
  21. Going to let a few of these build up and then do a premier watch partay with some fellow beltalowdas!
  22. Show me the coolest artist signatures. Doesn't have to be your art. Doesn't even have to be comic art! What are some that stand out in your mind?
