  1. Are you curious if rings are still as prevalent? My recent returns indicate it's just as bad. I have about 100 books coming back this week (I organized my sealed 25 year old collection) and can take a look. I haven't seen any indication yet that they're any less of an issue. On some recent books I sent in (CPR'd for signatures) I've been getting the same or a one grade drop. The books look amazing through the slab, so I just imagine they're grading a bit harder lately?
  2. I saw the first one (POD), but originally didn't look at them as they weren't as nice as the others. But the real problem is that they only offer a stick-on sheet for UV protection, and i don't trust in my ability to stick those on without bubbles. Plus, I was hoping to rotate my books (I really want to display and enjoy them) and would have to stick protection on all of them. The dynamic one is interesting, but doesn't really match our style. Thanks a lot for the links. Looks like I'm just a bit too late to act on these when they were available.
  3. Just wanted to post an update. Since Gweedo's wouldn't respond to email, I was able to file a claim with PayPal and have my funds returned. Sucks, as I would have preferred the frames. I did reach out to Frame it Again Sam; even if it doesn't matter, I'd prefer the museum glass. That said, their frames are still nice, but they said they're in the process of moving and don't know if they're going to continue doing frames. So, kind of stuck. I wish there was another one like Gweedo's, but I can understand there isn't enough volume of buyers to keep these guys going.
  4. We need a forum plugin that strips quoted images by default, unless explicitly adding 1 or 2. :P
  5. Well, it's only been a few weeks for me, but I think I'll have to cancel the order. His frames look the best, but he's not replying to email and I assume he's either too busy or not doing the frames anymore. Has anyone found any alternatives? I was trying to get 12-15 with museum glass and most of the other cgc related frames don't look as good.
  6. Any update on this? I was looking to order 12-15 frames, but want to make sure they're still coming through. I had written a few times asking about colour, etc, and never got a response back. Normally I'd use that as a sign, but those frames are still the nicest ones I've seen.
  7. I'm going through my 25 year old collection, and I have a fair number of books for grading. I'm planning on using the prescreen service for few different groups of books. I just noticed that CGC is going to be in my area next weekend, and thought I might as well organize the books a bit faster and skip shipping. Is there a maximum number of books I can drop at express drop-off? I guess as long as all books are put in the online form marked for prescreen, then I should be good to bring them? Thanks
  8. Nice, I forgot about that, and it's a really good tip. They almost need a 'donate' option for the ones that miss as they'll be worth more to me as a donation
  9. Backstory: After being sealed for 25 years I recently mailed myself my high school comic book collection (maybe 1000 books) and I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. They're mainly late-copper to early modern books, and I used to be a dealer and almost all books were purchased in bulk and immediately bagged/boarded. While some have some small marks, by far almost all books are NM. A while ago, I pulled out my favourites (maybe 40 books) and sent them to be signed/slabbed for wall display (museum glass, indirect light, etc), but now I need to go through the rest. I'm now stuck determining which ones I should have slabbed before sale (and some saving). Situation: I can afford to float a chunk of money during grading, even with long turnaround times. So it doesn't matter to me about rushing, and it's more about minimizing the overall grading costs. I have a connection to very cheap outgoing shipping, so return costs from cgc matter, but outgoing is not a big deal. The comics are an old labour of love so I don't mind the time cost to evaluate, re-bag, and eventually sell any valuable slabs. The higher dollar value books are easier to determine given the lower modern grading costs, but what about the lower dollar ones? An example is X-Force #1. GPA has a it currently at 9.8 $200, 9.6 $40, 9.4 $35, 9.2 $25. I have 5 copies of this that I believe are 9.6+, but even if it came back 9.2 (which I can't see, maybe 9.4, but very unlikely 9.2), is it worth it? If I bulk my shipping invoices, currently have the 10% discount (could upgrade for 15%?), add in selling fees, then am I conservatively looking at $20-25? I guess my question is, for books that I have high confidence on, am I crazy to bulk slab them for sale? If I sell them raw it looks like I'll get barely anything. I'm not looking to spend infinite amounts of my time, but evaluating, updating the bags/boards, dropping them with CGC, then selling the (decent) slabs seems to be worth the time. This was just one issue, but it seem to be a theme. I have 4 Lethal Protector #1's, and while the top end is around $100, it holds better through 9.2 which reduces the risk. I don't think any of the books submitted need pressing, as I'm already filtering out anything with any marks I can see (even tiny nbr spine ones), etc. Anyway, I know selling old collections is a common topic, but any more advice on what to do? It seems like the potential reward outweighs the risk as some point. It's not just about the value, I do plan on keeping some of the best ones for the memories.
  10. Well, I didn't (and am not going to) pay for it. :P I did pay for a lot of Stan sigs on my Marvel books (I love the books, he's...not signing much anymore), so it was easy for them to misplace this one.
  11. Got this book back; I really loved this period of Valiant and this cover to hang up. There was a little facilitator snafu; creators left Marvel to do their own thing and now Stan signed this :P I'm cool with it though, funny thing to happen. I do wonder what Bob and Shooter thought when they signed after Stan. Only really crappy thing is that I want to hang this and it has the worst Newton rings I've seen; literally the entire front cover shows them from any angle.
  12. Yeah, the photo does make it look that way, but the book is crisp and it's a shadow and an offset inside page. The book was pressed before grading, and the pages are just showing about 1mm on the side. Does that affect grading? I have other similar 9.8's that have the same effect.
  13. This one looks really nice, and I can't see why it's not a 9.8. I'm sure it's something obvious, and I'm an insufficiently_thoughtful_person, but I think I might send it back for a review submission. The other ones I could find something that might have made it miss, but I'm personally dumbfounded on this one. I do wish they'd add notes even if it's "obvious". I can't think of any other industry where you pay someone to grade/rate/judge something and they don't give you back some reason with the grade.
  14. Just wanted to post a followup. The facilitator said the same thing; just leave it blank and they'll fill out the signed by and dates. Along with my prepared books, which mentioned the creators, I also included an inventory with all desired creator signatures outlined. Thanks for the details!
  15. I'm filling out Signature Series Submission Forms for some books to be signed in January. The form is very straight forward except for multiple signatures. Given the single Date entry, but a long line for the "Signed By", what do we do for multiple signatures on different dates? Can I put multiple names in the "Signed By" and have my facilitator update the dates as it gets signatures? Or, do I need a separate line per signature? And when totaling the price I'm assuming all CGC/CCS fees are per book regardless of the number of signatures? Would love any tips on these. If there was ever a photo of a sample filled out form that would alleviate any confusion people might have. I want to reduce any extra burden on my facilitator given they're already doing the heavy lifting with the books. Thanks
