WIZARD WORLD Announces $1.8m Loss For Q2 2015

The comic convention franchise Wizard World is reporting $1.8m in losses for the second quarter of 2015. The total revenue before expenses for the company's Q2 2015 was $7.57m. This follows a recent increase in the number of shows the company has around the world to 24 yearly, including an expansion into China.

“Q2 was highlighted by record quarterly revenue and more than a twenty-percent increase in average-revenue-per-convention over the previous quarter,” said Wizard World CEO John Macaluso. “This was achieved despite unforeseen celebrity cancellations due to scheduling conflicts and other unrelated contractual obligations. While we experienced overwhelming demand for our first Comic Con in China, the event was not as successful as we anticipated due to extraordinary circumstances and venue changes. We learned from this experience, and, in preparation for the next one, will be taking greater control over the event logistics and day-of execution so that we can better serve the robust and vibrant pop culture community in China."

This is the second quarter in which Wizard World has reported a loss, after its Q1 2015 report noted $980,000, for a total of $2.78m lost in the first half of 2015. That is in stark contrast to its profits in the same period of 2014, whichi saw it earn $1.45m in profit in Q1 & Q2 of 2014.

In its quarterly report, Wizard World cited the expansion in shows and the associated expenses such as advertising, marketing and employment that came as part of that. In the second quarter of 2014, each Wizard World show earned an average of $1.8m in revenue, while in 2015 that decreased to a $1.1m average revenue.

  2. Thor #80 has been a difficult issue to find ever since it came out. Such a small print run. I bet those sales figures are skyrocketing on GPA.

I'm re-reading the Simonson run now. It's been years since I've read it. It's been my favorite overall storyline from any comic series ever since I first read it. I'm on #340 now and it's just as spectacular to read this time as it was the first time!

  3. The show is excellent so far, in my opinion. Miles better than Arrow.

Gordon, Bullock and Selina are cast very well, I think. It's amazing how much Camren Bicondova looks like Michelle Pfiffer. The Penguin is also a good character and casting.

  5. Wow what a great movie, I think this is better than the Avengers. There was almost no cheesiness like in Cap 1 or Iron Man 3.

    Just one thing....

Hydra/SHIELD were taken down too quickly for having plotted decades for this moment. This could have easily been expanded into the other films with an ending in Avengers 2. Iron Man was a target so it would have been cool to have him make at least a cameo appearance, especially since the news had to have been all about Cap going rogue, not too mention all the chaos around DC. New York isn't that far away.

When Nick Fury was ambushed by the Hydra disguised as police officers, he tried to call his S.H.I.E.L.D. agent friend, Maria Hill. If I were Fury, I would have tried to call Iron Man. He was in NYC, so he could have been there in 5-10 minutes and taken care of all those guys with barely any effort lol Alas, he was not able to communicate with anyone anyway...but hypothetically speaking.

Fury was in D.C. not NYC when this happened.

Yes, I know. Iron Man could have traveled from NYC to DC in 10 minutes or less.

Tony Stark destroyed all his Iron Man suits at the end of Iron Man 3. Fury likely knew this. Unless we assume Tony built another suit in the interim, how could he have reached or helped Fury?

P.S. : If I recall, at the end of Iron Man 3, it said "TONY STARK will return in the Avengers", it did not say "IRON MAN will return in the Avengers". hm

I forgot the events that took place at the end of IM 3. I was probably trying to forget the ending to that movie.

  8. CAP 2 was a great film, but I dont know why so may folks are trashing the first CAP film - Of the two, the first was a better film.

I suspect that the first film may have been "overly patriotic" for some people's taste I just guess thats the world we live in today. I thinkCAP 1 perfectly captured some elements of films made at that time.

Here's hoping that CAP 3 will be even better!

I love patriotism. I just don't care for bad movies.

  9. I just saw Captain America: Winter Soldier and thought it was FANTASTIC! I thought the first Cap movie was pretty bad, so I wasn't expecting much from this sequel. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised!

I still don't see Chris Evans as the right actor for Captain America, but I felt he portrayed the role far better in this sequel than he did in the first Cap film or the Avengers. Everyone else from a casting standpoint was just fine!

The fight scenes and car chase sequences were great. The martial arts were superb. In all of the other Marvel movies, the fight scenes were kind of generic in my opinion. As far as fight scenes go, I think this movie displayed them better than any Marvel movie so far.

It was exciting to hear Dr. Strange briefly mentioned!

    An excellent movie overall!

  10. Jack Nicholas was smart to arrange his deal on that move as a percentage of the take. Very smart man.

Is he the guy who brings presents to all the good children on the 25th of this month?

    Peace,

    Chip

No, he's the Golden Bear. Best golfer of all time.

:roflmao: +1, you beat me to it

I thought the same thing. :shy:

  11. Tonight's episode was one of the best ones of the entire show in my opinion. They were in deep shiz. Logically speaking, I don't know how Rick and Carl would have made it (Glenn as well). I'd have thought this episode would have been the end of the show, because it looked to be like it would have been a complete overrun.

One thing that got my thinking...were the heck was Beth during all of this??? Almost a complete wipe of all survivors and she's laying back in her room with the baby?

    Great ending too!

  12. I think that the "Days of Future Past" storyline as presented in X-Men #141-142 is a fairly simple one. The storyline was not very long--it was not a massive story arc. There is plenty that can be done to embellish the story. I'd imagine (and hope) that the basic story elements are what they're keeping: time traveling to the past to positively alter the future.

Did you guys see the X-Men Animated Series "Days of Future Past" interpretation? That one centered around Bishop as the time traveler. It also added extra storyline elements such as an X-Man being framed as the triggerman in the assassination.

  13. If you skipped out on First Class despite that and the fact that it had positive reviews and a notable class, I don't think the franchise will ever get your dollar.

First class was one of the best Superhero movies ever made to this point. If you could get past the fact that X-men (1963) is not going to be the source material, it was almost impossible not to enjoy.

    Absolutely.

The side characters such as Azazel, Angel and Riptide were horrible but if you ignore them and pretend they aren't in the movie, X-Men: First Class was fantastic.

The main characters were superb. Fassbender and McAvoy blew me away with their performances.

  14. Loved the trailer! Infinitely better than the Captain America trailer. I'm so excited for this X-Movie.

    Not

    Double not.

    triple

    quad. :headbang:

The cast of X-Men is phenomenal. All of the primary cast are fantastic actors and have displayed fantastic performances as their respective characters (except perhaps Halle Berry). Both Xaviers; great. Both Magnetos; great. Wolverine; great. Iceman, Kitty, both very good. I just hope Colossus gets some time to shine in this movie. He's one of the most popular X-Men and his role in the previous movies has been cameo in length.

Chris Evans as Captain America is just so overwhelmingly bad. He was horrible in the first Cap movie, he was horrible in the Avengers movie...which does not lead me to believe that it will be any less horrible in the next Cap movie. If I can't accept the film's lead, it makes it tough to enjoy the trailer.

I just watched both trailers again. X-Men still rules the day for me.
