Jeez skybolt, you're like some type of mutant freak or something. Only weirdos have books in those grades
Those are awesome books. I sold my #1 CGC 2.5 copy to a board member here, and just bought a replacement copy for myself. I am still working on my run, and have a lot complete. My #3 and up I plan to have at least a 5.5 or so, until #94 where I'd like at least a 7.0 or so. I'm not going for high grade on this run as they are too expensive, the covers are not that great anyway. I am saving my high grade hoarding for Sgt Fury and TOS.

Not me !
But here is a splendid Captain America #27 I just got in
That sure beats out my copy. But I'm still partial to mine, because its all mine!

This is the first time I've ever gone to this thread
As a result, here are the kudos that are LONG overdue!
Pirate: Thanks for that gorgeous Iron Man #55 that looks like a 9.0...but sadly has some foxing. Great packaging and everything! I have a feeling we'll be trading a lot in the future.
DoubleCovaBrotha: Thanks for the great Amazing Spider-man #100 CGC 8.0. Looks great! Fast shipping and great packaging. Could not ask for more.

[With the exception of GA collectors where they only account for 36% and older groups take up the slack indicating that GA collecting is indeed for the more mature collector.]
That is only because the "more mature collector" has more money.

Well, the only book I've screwed up was a JIM #109 (1st Magneto x-over)--I think that's #109. Anyway, it had some very minor chipping starting and of course when I was putting it back in the back I caused a piece to chip off.
That book was later stolen anyway.

I actually like jimjum12's idea of specifying by era since it is so hard to decide from all ages together. Comics from every decade have a different feeling, and it really just depends what you're in the mood to read.
Silver Age- Avengers #3
Bronze Age- Avengers #181
Copper/Modern age- Either Thor #355 or X-men #141(great cover too)--my choice will change with the wind.
Current- JLA/Avengers #1

I couldn't find this anywhere in the thread either; cover re-enforcement. Can someone explain how it is done and how to detect it?
-
Yea; got that right. I actually like Ayers more than Kirby both are still in my favorites. Ditko did do the best Spidey though.
-
Awesome books. Spidey has yellow webbing???

Thanks a lot for the advice guys! Helps a lot. I'll have to get some of those tweezers and try it out for myself sometime soon.
At least he didn't say his Fantastic Four # 3!
I actually tried it out a couple days ago on my Tales of Suspense #57 which looked like [embarrassing lack of self control] before. It actually worked though. I got the spine roll much better than it was. Now it's just a nice piece of [embarrassing lack of self control].

...on a $.50 bin book of course.

I've looked through this thread and the info is amazing. But, I do have a question that I did not find an answer for.
Can someone tell me the proper way and procedure to disassemble a book?
-
Daaaaang . That book is niiiice! It's greatest defect is the tanned edges. Even with that, I'd say a 9.2. An okay shot at 9.4 as well (is better than a lot of 9.4's I've seen).
-
There have been times I've heard of, of them giving a choice between the two.
-
Well, it's for sure they would not accept the signature as authentic. They would never do that, so that's out for sure. I think they might give you a choice of what you want. A universal label with the sig taken into consideration as a defect or a qualified label with it not taken into account as a defect.
-
Now that I look at it a second time I'd say 4.0-4.5. That spine is pretty dinged up, both corners are extremely rounded. Still, a very nice book. Nice colors.
-
Wow, that #68 is beautiful. Great cover. I'd love to own that copy.
-
Ah, how about this great and slightly humorous cover?
I find it funny that the evil-doers are just Mexican guys running around. Even though El Toro is a bit stronger, it would still be funny to see him again as a villian in a new book like New Avengers.

Nice book, KOR.
...
I got FFB's seal of approval! Wow! Never thought that would happen.
Thanks FFB

I don't have a large run of Tales to Astonish yet, but the the ones I do have I really like.
This is one of my copies, and is one of my favorite covers of all time:

I always forget about this thread!
Well, kudos to comicdey for the awesome trade. I traded my All-Star #5 CGC 7.0 for a bunch of awesome SA and BA books! This is my second trade deal with him!
Also, kudos to Aces for the wonderful trade! I traded my JLA #1 CGC 3.5 along with a few other goodies, and got his lot of Journey Into Mystery books!
I have to say that these boards are the safest, and overall best place to buy, sell and trade!
