Hey Peter - I appreciate your thoughts.  Let me clarify - I wasn't implying FF4 is unknown or a sleeper in the sense that nobody knew about it.

Our topic here isn't "Books that are unknown or Diamonds in the rough" - it is "SA Comics That Are Heating Up" - and FF4 just heated up more than it has in the last two years and for that matter maybe ever.  In the past 7 days it doubled in price .... the book that sold on ebay doubled the previous record high ... it didn't go up 10 or 20 percent - it didn't go up 50 percent.  It went up 100%  And I don't think that price is an aberration - but quite possibly a bargain considering Namor is Marvel's first hero and first mutant.

FF4 on gocollect has been moving up sure - but nothing like what just happened ... Gocollect still has the price of a 6.5 at $5700  - and I don't even see the ebay sale yet.   If this book hasn't been sleeping it has certaionly been resting comparatively to what it did this week ...

    2 years ago (730 days) - $4,400     1 year ago (365 days) - $4,700      6 months ago (180 days) - $5,250       30 days ago -  $7,000     and       Today -  $12,000

In the past two years the book went up in price $2600.   This week - just this week - it went up in price $5000

You may feel FF4 has been warm or hot or already popped  - but I am saying this week FF4 announced to the world - I'm heating up!

I don’t think it’s set in on how low the census is on this early issue of FF. Mid grade copies are few and far between the ceiling has not come even close for this one as it’s a huge character yet to see his day on the big screen . Anything early grab now especially mid grade copies Submariner 1 from 1968 which are still priced well. Huge price corrections coming on this one

  2. I agree with you but those issues from late 80s and 90s are way more plentiful so I’m not sure that hikes will affect low grades but who knows . I haven’t completely accepted how big this comic thing has become . I’ve been a part of it my whole life and now mainstream publicity has brought this thing to all time highs . Very cool to watch .

  3. The issue I see with old school collectors of gold, silver and bronze is they don’t see how the new blood coming in direct relate only to these mass produced late 80s early 90s stuff. These boomers are driving the market there and let’s be serious it’s becoming very difficult to buy from any period now . CGC 9.8s have exploded for keys and silver , bronze keys are way out of reach for most .

The big concern moving forward is this , if nobody can afford the market then what becomes of the market ? Collectors need to collect and will move on is my fear if priced out and we are at that tipping point now . Just an observation . I have a short list of books I want and I’m so far away from obtaining them that this may be it for me . Week after week more price hikes . It’s something I can say I’ve never seen before .

For the record I’m not saying crash but not sure how this works moving forward.

  4. I agree on desirability and when I say handcuff I get offered overstreet guide value for some of the late 40s books which to me is nuts as overstreet imo is an obsolete tool. Prices don’t reflect market . These don’t come up often so even referring to GPA I don’t think I get fair market offers it’s based off an old sale or nothing at all .

WW2 covers I can’t afford to collect but I put  some effort in Subbys because I’m close to a complete run . I don’t think that happens everyday as some of these books took a while to find and sooooo much luck at times.

I def want to see what happens if he joins MCU and how that will change interest in all his comics . Maybe it has positive effect on some post WW2 stuff

  5. Noted . I knew this about the Subbys and I always dreamed of completing them as it’s more rewarding . The problem I have is price point . The AF 15 has climbed to almost unattainable levels even in 2-2.5 . I’ve been outbid on almost every Submariner timely since December so the market and money has def shifted leaving me with what I have and no means to buy at the moment . Chances are I’ll hold Submariners  but I’m still trying to understand how certain collectors down play issues after 1945 .

  6. Weird  question but an honest one . Are non WW2 covers that much more undesirable than its counterpart even if the book may be rarer . I’ve been debating lately if I should break my submariner run up to buy a big silver key like AF15 but have held off because I know I’d never get the books again .

most people I talk to try and handcuff me in that they always use non WW2 cover as less desirable and think it should come with big price drops????

Any thoughts or advice ? Currently I have 14-42 of the Subby run and all the books are cgc blue in various grades

You keep conflating numbers graded with rarity. The 2nd print is twice as many as the 1st. That's what matters.

Why? How many copies of the second exist out there ? I’m constantly hearing how out of 3000 first prints only 1/3 have been “found “ graded so according to that the second print in high grade is tougher book . Those are stats I have from go collect and cgc . That’s all

Done. Yes, numbers prove it. 6000 2nd to 3000 1st. 1st is way rarer, in any grade. CGC will show that, eventually. You're not one of those low pop guys, are ya? "Only two 9.8s!" "Yeah, only 3 graded bro."

Look at the census numbers please . The second print is way rarer with next to nothing graded compared to 1st prints

  9. Hey I love the book . I love the turtles

No that's not my theory its a fact & what's laughable is just because you don't happen to know any 40 year olds who are putting down that kind of money you assume it's not happening. I mean this sincerely let me know if you want to get in touch with a few of them and you can look at there collections, I know a guy who is 44 yrs old and last week dropped 90K on a Jordon collection and another buddy of mine who is in his 40s (a Dentist) dropped 100k on a prototype Bobba Fett Action figure recently. Another fact is TMNT #2-4 ,Ralph, #3 variant (2nd & 3rd prints) and any of the Gobbly books have all had substantial increases over the same time frame as #1 first print better yet  just go take a look at the TMNT Archie #1 these days ( this was a $1 bin book not to long ago). I mean its just crazy for anyone to assume this is not real or its some dealer/auction house manipulation. Drop in on Heritage recent sales & take a look at Nintendo sales, Magic the gathering or the big dog Pokemon. I guess that's all 60 year olds who just happen to be part of a Pikachu investment firm?

I love the turtles I’ll wait to see where the dust settles . As for the Nintendo and Pokémon I don’t know much of that .
