I just picked up a raw Fantastic Four 1. Its in rough shape, Its missing part of the back cover and a neatly clipped ad on the back page. Wondering if theres any way of getting a blue label or i it destined for a Green automatically...any help would be appreciated- Thanks!

hey! in defense of the book - its really clean other than the crappy staples...I know they're ugly but I've got a macro lens on it too. Just sayin'. ;-)

Bomber Bob is correct...I sent pix and they basically said the most that could come of this is change the label to manufacturing error...no grade bump should be expected. Still happy with the book...I was looking for a 5.0 to replace one that I lost in a bad trade. This looks tons better than that (as long as I'm not focusing on staples thru a macro lens).

Kav- Been thinking about this...heres what I think happened: A book with good staples got accidently run thru the binder a second time - the second set of staples got mangled and tore up the book because the first set was there already. What do you think? Any holes in that theory?

The logic of stapling over existing staples makes no sense when theres nothing wrong with those existing staples (at least outwardly so). I'm questioning it because I don't see why they would do it, and a production error would explain it a lot better than a crazed guy with expertly matched staples who does a crappy job.

This makes no sense to me - if it were done after manufacturing, then either the original staples were the crappy ones or the good ones were the original. If the bad ones came first, that is one good staple job. If the good ones came first - then why even do it? My only logic was some messed up staple machine went ballistic.

right? But the original staples are intact. My only logical explanation is it got messed up in a production error...

Thats actually very true- not a rumor. BTW- I sent in some pix to customer service to have them take a quick look...I just don't get the logic behind adding bad staples over good other than a manufacturing error, so its worth a try to have it re-examined.

I minored is staple identication in college, and I guarantee they're the same! :-) Besides, it seems pretty obvious to me that the bad staples were applied after the good ones since they overlap the good ones. I cant think of a reason that would be done unless some shady staple dealer liked to mess with us.

I recently purchased an ASM 129 5.0 with a note that says "2 extra staples added, not manufacturing". I'm totally confused by this- it seems to me that it would make most sense that they were added during manufacturing since who would go through the trouble of adding extra staples when the original (underlying) staples seemed fine to begin with? I can understand staples added to a book that is falling apart...but not one thats intact. Also the staples look the same to me. Anyway- Just wondering does this effect the grade? Does extra staples added after manufacturing get a bigger grade hit than during manufacturing? Could you argue that there was a mistake made? Love to hear opinions on this

I actually wish for books like this there was something short of restoration that could be done - a non-permanent patch or something that would make it more esthetically pleasing (noted on the label or in the notes), but wouldn't effect the grade or the label color.

Howdy- I was wondering if I could get an opinion if the torn corner automatically limits this to a certain grade - and if so, what is it. Otherwise the book is complete, great color, spine is ragged and theres some color breaks up top. Hasn't been pressed or cleaned. Love to hear what you guys think ...
