  1. This showed up at a local auction a couple weeks ago...the consensus amongst some of us was that it was trimmed...wondering if you agree? FYI- it went for $3600 ($4200 with fees)
  2. ok- so lets say the sig is legit and you want to get it slabbed...but the idea of a pink cbcs label isn't your cup of tea. Do you take the approach of just taking some pix and getting a cgc blue label...or is there something you would do prior to getting it slabbed - like getting a COA from JSA or some other verification company? ...or is that a total waste? Does anybody even care? I've seen COAs of Stans signature and it does nothing for me. Thoughts?
  3. would love to see the before and after notes on this...
  4. I recently bought a JIM83 3.0 and am trying to decide if I want to crack, press and resubmit it. It doesn't appear cleaned or pressed to me. In looking at the notes, the first thing mentioned is a 'bend full right of whole book'...which objectively sounds press-able (obviously the tears and color breaks are not). My question is, since its the first thing mentioned, does this mean the grader felt it was the biggest problem with the book? Is order of the notes relevant at all? Thanks
  5. Is theres a good way to protect your collection from smoke damage. Is plastic effective, or are there other methods anyone can recommend.
  6. Thanks! Turns out that this is indeed (as you said) a production error, but since its so bad the book only was able to get a 4.0, even the the rest of the book is pretty flawless. So the takeaway - in some cases, production errors do count.
  7. It feels like its all a match. My gut tells me the top cover was becoming split and detached and a kid used tape to reinforce it in every way. The bottom actually looks ok...so if I'd have to guess I'd say it wasn't fully spit or detached. but who knows.... either way - Happy Holidays to you!!
  8. So I really can't tell whats going on with the spine...I'm assuming its separated, since its fully taped on the inside and out, but I cant really see whats up...Its actually a nice book otherwise. Any thoughts?
  9. So now we've established this has a very good shot at being legit, what company would be best to get a COA from? JSA? Any other options?
  10. Id like to see a Roz sig...do you have any samples?
  11. Oddly enough, the seller didn't charge extra for it because it wasn't authenticated. He had it for many years, but didn't know anything about it.
  12. Heres another one to look at...I ended up returning this because it was incomplete, and one authenticator came back positive, the other negative...but personally I still think its the real deal.
  13. The fact that its not on a major key makes me think its the real deal.
  14. Totally agree...and I'm going to have it printed on newsprint to simulate the page as close as possible (I'm going to miss seeing the real thing, so this is as close as I can get)
  15. If they won't say who signed it, I wont get it slabbed. That wold be a travesty.
  16. I agree...if I end up slabbing it, I'm going to document the hell out of it, and even go as far as getting a color print (possibly on newsprint) to simulate the page. I'll keep it together with a COA from JSA (hopefully). It'll all go with in the mylar with the slab. Hopefully it'll be then next best thing.
  17. I just bought an FF10 signed by the King...at least it looks like it. Personally, I'd rather have CGC give it a blue label with Jack Kirby written on first page rather than a horrendous pink cbcs label. Heres my questions: -Does anybody think this isn't authentic? -Any info on how horrendous pink cbcs labels are valued? Is it really any better than a gc blue label with a COA from a signature expert? - Is there any chance this would get a green label, or something that says "name written on first page"? Thanks!
  18. Tape on the exterior and interior cover- but nothing structural- otherwise complete and intact...what do you think?
  19. Thanks - I'm not going to do it, but I was curious if this was some sort of loophole in grading.
  20. I have a copy of Hulk 1 1.5, but it’s cover and back are fully split and detached. Theoretically speaking, could I crack it, tape the cover and back together (on the inside), had the staples removed and reattached the cover (through the tape), and as long as I didn’t use archival tape, could it still get a blue label? And would it grade higher cause it wasn’t split and detached anymore? Curious to hear thoughts on this..thanks!
  21. Can anybody shed some light on whats going on with this book...at first I thought it was just a lot of damage, but then I noticed its mainly in the black ink areas, seems to be overprinted by other colors and theres no damage to the non-printed areas at the edges...so it could be some weird production error. Has anyone seen anything like it?
  22. The weird thing about it is that it seems like its mainly a black ink issue, it doesn't occur very much in the yellow, plus its streaky...that why I'm thinking its related to printing. If thats so, how would cgc approach this? Also, its old label, so I doubt its been cleaned or pressed.
