  1. Sometimes you CAN get lucky on ebay. My run continues! This book has that damage on the lower corner which continues into the interior with corner rips but the pieces are still attached! Binding is tight. The paper is supple but either their printing was bad or there may have been some moisture damage to the cover interior and first page. Hard to grade this book. Oh, and the brown strip down the right side of the cover is the registration not the first page peaking through. Pages are OW.
  2. Yes, please. You get the idea on the Lone Ranger..... Here's a couple of other interior pages... There are a few phantom stories A few Rush Newton Stories Some interior stories with black and white drawings A few shorts of the time and then a nice color centerfold The back page Family Portraits And my image of an image of the back cover.... Thanks!!!
  3. I understood. All I was saying is the case is too big for my scanner and I'm not cracking the case, temptation to handle the book aside.
  4. I don't think my 8 1/2 x 11 scanner will accomodate it. Not to mention the CGC case. And as tempting as it is to crack open to read the book, I don't have the pedigree documentation so resubmission might be dicey. There was another one on CL, but I don't know what happened to it. The fair one is still there.
  5. Awesome books! Who WOULDN'T have slapped down a shiny dime to grab those great covers off the newsstand?
  6. Thanks to the CL focused auction I can now post my first group shot. Not the greatest photo I admit, but here it is... Gerber Photojournal Volume 1, back cover, bottom row.
  7. Yes. A vampire who turns into a wolf. In common lore, vampires can turn into wolves, bats or mist. Think how conflicted he would have been to shoot a bat.
  8. And some of us WON'T without a link either. I'm just lazy like that... I mean, if you're going to spam, do it EFFECTIVELY. "Romanes Eunt Domus" and all that.
  9. In that condition, yes. It is off kilter with prior sales. For example, I paid $2k for a CGC 9.2 copy. How long ago?
  10. For a comic that's supposed to be so rare, it sure seems to come up for sale often. We knew about this copy. In fact the owner is a forumite and it has been discussed on the boards. I also know about one other raw copy. That still only makes 16 known copies I believe. And my friend has a copy as well, so that's 17. But his is beat (1/3 the cover is missing). Can you ask him where he obtained his copy from? No doubt CGC did not slab them all so the question is just how many are there? Sure. Off the top of my head I recall him saying something about going to a store in L.A. somewhere in the 80's and getting stacks of 50's books. He still has a filing cabinet FULL of raw pre-code horror, mostly beat, and a few golden age books too. I believe he picked them all up for pennies from the place to the point where he told me he was feeling guilty and didn't even buy all of it. Maybe he got it with that score. I'll get the exact story from him and find out for sure. Back to the ebay copy for a second though. Am I alone in thinking $1800 was a little steep?

  12. Hey look! Another copy of Blood is the Harvest has surfaced. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6614154105&fromMakeTrack=true Wish I had the budget for it...
  13. Can you provide a scan? My great skills with the camera have cut off the top part of the page, but it is present. This should still give you a good idea what it looks like.
  14. I wonder what my Ditko page is worth while you're all on the topic. I have no yardstick for OA prices since I collect comics, not art. I bought a page at a con about 15 years ago. It's DC's First Issue Special #7, The Creeper, page 14. It's a story page, not a splash, with several panels of the Creeper in action. I realize the Creeper is not Spidey or Sci-Fi so he's way down on the list, but it's still Ditko. Could anyone ballpark it?
  15. 80. I have most of the easy ones (Weird Fantasy 16, All Star 18, Superman 5) and a few of the harder ones (Silver Streak 6, Prize 4, Out of This World) but I have NO idea how I'm going to get Acrion Comics 1, Tec 27, Wonder Comics 1, Marvel 1, or the Marvel Mystery Annual. Books like Planet 1, GL 1, Batman 1 or even Superman 1 just cost money but they're out there. Since I have no minimum condition beyond "cover present" that should help some. I will use the Famous Firsts and Flashbacks or other reprints as stand-ins but people are starting to charge idiotic money even for those. I don't want to pay $50 for a mass-marketed Tec 27 reprint in VG. That's silly. Speaking of reprints, anyone have the Silver Streak 6 reprint in beat shape they'd let go cheap? I can't bring myself to read the one I got because with my luck I'd damage it.
  16. "MONI" or "MUNI" near as I can tell. It's like a date stamp maybe? Maybe it was the first part of "MONDAY"? What you see is all there is of it.
  17. So, as I am freshly returned from the New York Comic Con I thought this would be a good time to post my scores from there. I am now 30% complete in my quest to collect all of the books on the Gerber Photo-Journal covers. Traded a literal box of books for this one (some are on Ebay even now) estimated at 4.5 : And got a great deal from Superworld on this. It's in G+ with lots of tape and chips, etc.:
  18. Nope. Should I? <-- And does this get the dumb question award for the day?
  19. Thanks! My 100 has 32 pages but all of the stories are complete. If I didn't have your info I'd think the book is complete too. The problem is I can't tell what's missing. The centerfold is part of the Superman as substitute teacher story and continues from story-page 6 to story-page 7 (numbers drawn into the lower corner of the art). Anyone know if that's what the centerfold's supposed to be? I can find no evidence of ripped or clipped out pages either. So even though I must be missing pages or a whole wrap somewhere, I can't tell. I just thought the book was thin. I'm not normally a Superman or Action collector since there's too much cost or competition to pick up all those nice war covers...
  20. Quick Superman question: Anyone know how many pages Superman # 100 should have? I just picked one up off of Ebay and it's in way better condition than I expected, but it seems awfully...thin. I would like to know if it has all its pages before I drop it off with CGC during WonderCon.
  21. That's a gorgeous book! HOW is that only a 5.0? Interior damage? Missing pieces of the back cover? Water damage?
  22. Anyone know anything about Canadian versions of Jo-Jo Comics and the like? Are they worth less than the American versions?
