yeah,  I used to own it. Originally, it was listed as a Garcia Lopez piece but it looked too Gammil-sh to me so I asked Kerry and he confirmed to have provided the layouts/pencils for this Doomsday and said there should be another *sister* page with different poses he also did around that time. both for style guide purposes.

So you knew they weren't from Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez when you traded them to me? I inquired with Jose Luis when I got them from you and he said they weren't his. I will tell you I am not liking this Gal.

Different strokes I guess.  I've had numerous occasions when my art rep Albert Moy has told me that he can't sell the original until it's signed.  He's had customers where a condition of sale is a separate signature.  This includes COVERS which are ALREADY SIGNED in the field of art and published with said signature showing!  Essentially, the cover art now has TWO signatures.  I know.  I just scratch my head and sign the art.

In the case of two signatures I have had pieces that were already signed by the artist signed again to authenticate it as an original and not a fake. I know it may sound weird but I also took photographs of them signing said art.

This piece is not mine (I wish)
but I REALLY LOVE the cover.

What it kills me is that the cover and back cover are done in a single page.

I am not going to buy it (out my price range)
but if I did I will love to cut it and separate the back cover...

I have a piece of OA that is from 3 comics and I would never, ever think about cutting it up to the 3 different covers. Then again I would never even think of shaving a piece of paper from a published piece of OA or erasing a dedication. To me it is part of the history of the piece. The first years of collecting OA I asked for dedications on the pieces I purchased directly from an artist but currently I have ceased that. I am, however, getting as many people that worked on a particular comic to sign any OA from said comic.

This tracks for me, the entire post, I think the bashing 1st run to 2nd run has been so constant...I've assumed the numbers would never get truly respectable. 6400 to me changes that, hence my surprise!

2nd run was where I stepped onto X-Men, so for me it was a no-brainer to snap up every one I could back in the day. That hit nostalgia squarely AND seemed like a deal against 1st run popularity and prices, even way back. To me, this was always very similar to how when Mike Burkey started chasing ASM art, Ditko was King and Romita was toss off. Mike couldn't swing Ditko, so he went all-in for Romita, the ultimate value play, and won big. (Not that Ditko ASM collectors ever did poorly either!) Doing so he was told some version of his being foolish, etc. I've been hearing that for twenty years re: 2nd run vs 1st or Byrne, up to and as recently as the last few months right here. I'm not seeing, never have, but the prices were not moving to support that so...different day now (or recently, let's say). Cool.

I've heard that foolish thing from other collectors too but maybe its because they are only looking at current pricing for some art and not anticipating interest for pieces that previously weren't very popular. Live and learn

  5. I have never done business with MGA and don't plan to.

I am not sure but once I inquired about purchasing a piece immediately and the rep was asking me for references in order to purchase. WTF??? Reference for a piece I want to pay immediately for? Needless to say I said "you know what? I'll think I'll invest my money elsewhere!"

Patience is a virtue in this hobby that is all I will tell you. Dealing with people is always complicated in any area. Apparently your offer has been accepted and they just wanted to secure the sale with a deposit, one that you no doubt would loose in case you backed out of the deal. Some people are expecting people to back out of a deal and make some easy money, lol.

  6. I use a Start Prat S2000 Convertible Backpack Portfolio, Weather-Resistant Canvas, Pockets for Storage and Tube Holder, 24 X 27 X 2.5 inches, Black.

The consumer in me wants both of the Jim Lee bags the one for art and the one for comics. If I do a big enough sale before the kickstarter ends I'll probably buy the art one at least. Even if I think it is really expensive. I do international travels to fly to a convention and lately I've been taking as much art as I can to have either the artist, writer or the inker sign the art for me so I need a bag that won't give me trouble because of the size of the bag my current prat is just to big and I have no problem hauling it at conventions as I also take 1 or 2 long boxes with me. lol

  7. Why is it priced above market? Is it because you have asked about a NFS piece on CAF? Is it just the asking price for the piece? If it is the asking price for a piece that is for sale go ahead and make a fair offer and see what the sellers thinks. It can't hurt to haggle a price tag. Most of us OA collectors overprice our art knowing that prospective buyers always try and haggle the price down.

  8. Lately I have been taking all the OA I can to shows to have inkers, artists, writers who have been involved with the piece sign it. As for a commission I wouldn't have a writer sign it but if you would like it I would encourage you to do so following the recommendations of others here. Have him place the signature where you'd like it.

    Laminate everything. ;)

    (Just kidding. DON'T LAMINATE ANYTHING.)

Also, do not put dryer sheets in contact with the art. Dryer sheets have chemicals on them that may react badly with paper and ink.

Large plastic totes are fairly cheap, usually around $6-$7 each at Walmart, and those have lock-down lids. Unless you have a ton of art, one big one should hold it all. If you want more protection, but a roll of Duck Tape and seal up all the edges of the tote.

Completely sealing the storage of art is not a good idea. It needs to breath and if its gonna be sealed for 30 + years then the paper might yellow faster because of the chemicals that the paper and ink produce.

  10. I am putting the following pieces of art for sale. My CAF has the pricing I was asking for them but I'm putting them out there waiting to hear offers for them.
