  1. Hello everyone, I never thought this day would come, but it has. As much as it hurts me to do so, I have decided to part with my Crime SuspenStories 22, which I personally had Bill Gaines sign for me back in 1990. Not trying to play on your emotions, but our beloved dog Cupcake is not well, and the surgery she needs is very expensive. Her quality of life is suffering, and I would never forgive myself if I did not at least try to help her. I have slept on this for several nights, but in the end, it is just a comic book. I bought this copy back in 1988, and I was lucky enough to meet Bill at a small show in Greensboro, NC back in 1990. One of the greatest thrills of my collecting life was getting to meet and hang out with the man. He was gracious, funny, respectful, and a delight. We discussed the CSS 22 cover and all of the grief that it cost him in his professional life. It was lightning in a bottle for me. I have owned some awesome books over the years, some the best copies graded, but this book has always been the favorite thing I have ever owned. That being said, this is incredibly hard for me, but I have sold almost every other nice book that I owned, and this one is the last. My wife told me that she did not want me to sell, that maybe something else would work out, but I told her it needs to be done. I have gone through it a hundred times, but it has to be this way as I simply do not have other funds to draw from at this moment. Enough with the sob story, it is what it is. This is a CGC 4.5 copy with cream to off white pages. I only have two pics saved on my phone, but I can take more this evening when I get home. The label doesn't notate the sig, which is on the first page, due to the grade. If it was a higher grade copy, it would have made a mention of writing on the first page. The signature says, "To Scott, BOO! Bill Gaines" I do not have a photo of the signature, but I do have a copy of the program from the show where I met Bill of which I can take some photos. I neglected to have Bill sign the program, but I did get Jim Steranko and Gray Morrow to do so. I am reluctant to crack the slab, but if I have to in order to guarantee a sale, I will. I am hoping that my history on the boards and the long time members who can vouch for me will be enough to allay any fears a prospective buyer may have. Jay (Jayman), Gabe (MrIllMannered), Richard Evans (Bedrock), are just a few of the people I know who have bought quite a few of my personal books over the years. I am also a personal friend of Bill's widow Annie, so the last thing I would want to do is damage my friendship with her by using Bill's name in a dishonest sale. I promise the book I am selling is the book I say it is. You have my word. It has been such an important book to me, I have had Bill Sienkiewicz, Karl Janot, and John K Snyder III all create cover recreations for me. It was the inspiration for the great pieces they honored me with. I am sorry for the long winded speech. I just want the person who buys it to realize what an incredible book this is, and what an incredible opportunity it is to be able to buy it. CSS 22 is possibly the most notorious EC cover, and Bill was the man. It was the book that he testified about in 1954, and the book that "helped" bring about the downfall of EC Comics. This book is history, and sad though it was at the time, it was the political climate to denigrate comic books. I think it is one of the most important books ever due to what it represents. To have a copy signed by Bill, which I feel may be the only one out there, is a truly special thing. With that said, I am asking 4500 for the book. I realize it has a premium, but I feel it is worth every penny. I will cover the priority shipping, and would prefer a check if possible due to the high Paypal fees I would incur, but I would accept it if it makes the deal go faster as I need the funds sooner than later. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Thanks for looking everyone. It means a lot. Scott Pearson
