  1. Really appreciate the pictures.  It's been too long since I attended a good comic book convention.  SDCC holds no interest for me but this Torpedo Con looks top notch.  I'm aiming for OAFCON this fall.  From what I hear, OAFCON is another old-school convention that focuses on the important things: comic books!

  2. Offered here is a sharp mid-grade copy of Batman 31.  CGC 5.5 with white pages.  CGC notes 1st appearance of Punch and Judy and Alfred backup story.  Light spine roll on the top half of the book.  Small date stamp below the front cover price.  Bright, clean copy that will likely benefit if you want to press.  A CGC 5.0 copy of Batman 31 with CR-OW pages sold for $540 on Heritage last week.  I'm offering a higher grade copy with much better page quality for the same price: $540.  Thanks!

  3. Hi Everyone,

This is my first sales thread on the CGC boards. Please be gentle.

    General Rules

No PL/HOS members.  The first "take it" posted in the sales thread wins. If we reach a deal via PM, you need to post "take it" in the sales thread.  If someone else takes the book in the thread before you, the earliest thread poster is the winner.

    Payment

I accept PayPal, personal checks, and money orders for total sales under $1000.  I only accept personal checks or money orders for total sales above $1000.  When the thread is over, an invoice will be sent with payment instructions. Payment required within 10 calendar days of invoice or the book will be available for sale again.

    Shipping

USA: You pay exact cost of USPS priority with signature required.  Canada: You pay exact cost of FedEx delivery. USPS lost one of my insured (?) packages in Canada once upon a time and refused to pay the insured cost.  Never again!

    Returns/Refunds

I will accept returns on raw books within 30 days of your receipt of the books, as long as the books are returned to me in the same condition as I shipped.  There are no returns on CGC graded books. If you need more pictures of a book, just let me know.

    About Me

I've been collecting comics books since the 1980s.  Expanded to original comic art in the 1990s.  Also crazy about early comic-related memorabilia: pinbacks, premiums, posters, advertising, toys, books, etc.  I try to channel  @Robot Man with my collecting pursuits, but my collection is not nearly as broad, deep, or cool as his junkpile.  eBay handle is lansdown.  4500+ feedback since 1998 with no negatives.  I have had successful transactions on the CGC boards with @Ricksneatstuff, @goldenacase, @ft88@Frisco Larson, @eyersman@westform, @Eric10, @TC33, @Obrie2tm@thejudge01, @Readcomix, and more.  I also run a website where I document some of my early comic pinbacks:  www.pinbacks.com

I wouldn't think it would work that way since the iPad you're selling is used so it wouldn't be worth $550 anymore. If you sold it for $50 that's likely it's worth now.  I'm probably way off base but that's how I see it.

I agree that the iPad is no longer worth $550, but Schedule C (where I report 1099-K income) simply asks for cost of goods sold - not the depreciated cost.  I'm not offering or looking for tax advice here - just thought I would introduce a potential silver lining when PayPal lumps all of your sales into a single sales total.  Check with your CPA to determine if this strategy is appropriate for your tax situation!

  5. If PayPal sends you a 1099-K with your gross total sales, do you now have the opportunity to use losses from garage-sale-type items to OFFSET your profits from comic books and other profitable sales?

    Example:
Sell a comic book for $1000 (cost basis = $500)
Sell an old iPad for $50 (cost basis = $550)
Total sales reported on 1099-K: $1050
    Cost of Goods Sold: $1050
    Total Profit: $0
    Total Tax: $0

It seems reasonable to balance losses against profits, a process at the corporate level that allows companies to minimize their yearly tax bite.

    Just a thought...

  6. I have a used HP 8300 scanner (legal size scan bed with CCD) available for sale in the Denver area.  It produces good CGC scans with Vuescan on my Windows 10 computer.  I don't want to ship it due to size and weight, but if you are in the Denver area and looking for a good comic/CGC scanner, drop me a PM.  Thanks...

Rang-A-Tang The Wonder Dog 1939 MLJ Club Button

1-1/4” 2 color celluloid pinback button. Was a mail away premium in Blue Ribbon Comics. Exceedingly rare item. The first club pin offered by MLJ. The Shield Club being the second.

Excellent condition with full, bright color and original pin in back. No chips, splits or foxing. Back is slightly oxidized as most pins of this era usually are. Be the hit of the next comic con you attend when we are able to be back digging through long boxes!

Had this on once before. Thought I’d give it another try with a slightly lower price.

    $300.

Nice pin and very tough to find!  But I've already got one... :(

And then there was this one...

At one time, this book was up in price along with the big boys Like Action #1 and Detective #27. Rick Durell and a couple older guys in my area had copies and they were treated with great reverance. It blew my young teen age mind. One day at Ricks house, I was allowed to hold and look through it as well as Action #1, Detective #27 and many other big keys. Took my breath away.

What a cover! Classic pose and hero battling an adversary. Not a super hero mind you but the image and face to face determination is just classic GA. I love the jungle green colors. And Hogarth adventure art for 68 pages. A masterpiece of comic book history.

Never really sought one out. Never really recalled seeing many of them. I'm not really a Tarzan comic guy anyway. I may have 3 in my collection. But this one is special. I have often drooled at @MrBedrock's beautiful copy. Just staring at the image and the color. Never really thought I would get one. This one turned up with nice color in acceptable shape for a real decent price so I snagged it. It arrived last night safely in my mail box.

Added bonus is the inside back cover. The United Features premium ad. Super rare early comic book premiums. I have had the Junior Flying Legion badge for years. I knew what it was but never seen the ad for it. The Spinners are un-godly rare. I had the Bronco Bill one. A lucky ebay purchase a couple years back. Hakes has had the Tarzan one a couple times and never seen the Capt. and Kids one. And then there are the United Features bound volumes sold at the World's Fair. Never seen one of them either...

So, I figure, this is a good one to go out on...

    Hi Bob,

Here's the Capt. & Kids spinner:

My example has a shallow dent at 2:00 but it's the only one I've ever seen.  I have never run across your Broncho Bill example - very cool!
