  1. I just spoke with a customer service rep at CGC to get a sense of how long this will take to get to the shipping stage where I can see the grades. He indicated it could be a couple of weeks, which means that whatever backlog they had at the encapsulation stage is still there. Just sharing this info for those who are waiting and hitting the F5 key. Having said all of this, time estimates are almost always cautious which is completely understandable.
  2. Happy New Year everyone! And best wishes to @jimjum12 during his recovery
  3. You are right, those guys are out there. Having dealt in person with that type of old school guy who absolutely, positively, does not want to have a grading company involved when selling their old books - I would never buy a book from someone like that. Ever. Not that everyone is the same, but your odds of getting a fraudulent graded book are far less than the chances of getting a raw book with unidentified resto, unrealistic grading, etc. This type of thing is exactly why grading company came around to begin with, and why they are a big part of the hobby today.
  4. I was just hit with a $135 charge for my submission even though I had already paid, and it is too late to call and ask. Fingers crossed that a couple of my books were bumped into higher value tiers Edit: A $135 does not make any sense with a $60 bump to the high value tier. Maybe a single book was moved to unlimited? Edit 2: I did manage to get through to support via text message - I guess they work late, bless their souls. Apparently a couple of books were bumped into the next tier which makes me very happy
  5. 24 book modern submission: Shipped out from Canada - Nov 23 Arrived at CGC - Nov 28 Box opened and SFG - Dec 1 Credit card charged - Dec 13 Moved to G/E/I - Dec 29 This is at business day 19 so chances of hitting the TaT of 25 days are really good, but with the four day work week next week I may not be able to see the grades my books got until the week after. That is the part I am usually the most impatient about but all good and happy with the movement.
  6. Thanks for responding. Based on what you are saying it sure seems like things are delayed a bit to put the new systems into place.
  7. I had to change my name there once. What happened is I stopped using Ebay for a few years and when I came back I was no longer able to access my old account. I was forced to create a new account and build up feedback again from scratch, and the new account had to have a different name because the old one was still listed as being taken. So stuff happens and it is not always nefarious.
  8. Thank you for the info - it helps a lot. As expected, this person was running the scam in a different form prior to the arrival of custom holders and all that other stuff. Back then it was one for one switches without sending anything back to CGC after the books were swapped.
  9. Thank you for sharing. If you don't mind me asking, when did you buy this book on Ebay? I am curious because we are not sure how long the scammer has been doing stuff like this. The book looks like a direct switch and without the resub part the grade dates do not help us to set a timeline for the scam itself.
  10. No they will not. The grade date of the 8.0 is after the 9.0: 1097250011 9.0 grade date 04/11/2012 0269834004 8.0 grade date 10/07/2015 Edit: looks like others beat me to this point.
  11. The part B to this question is guessing how many people will use the instructional You Tube video on how to crack cases to commit new frauds.
  12. Has anyone had any movement in their modern orders the past couple of days? I am asking directly because I am curious about whether the changes CGC implemented in their systems held the books currently in their system back a bit.
  13. Nothing was directed at you, I was just giving my own approach to all of this that helps cope with waiting
  14. As an impatient person by nature, I definitely get how hard it is to sit and wait for things to unfold in a situation that impacts on all of us as a community. My own experience being on the other side of the wall when stuff hits the fan and there is a great deal of public scrutiny and I am perfectly fine with assuming there is a beehive of activity with tons of people working hard to find a resolution. Others with different experiences will have different assumptions. The biggest thing I always keep in mind with stuff like this is there are actual human beings involved. The scammer is some lazy sleazebag who would rather bilk people out of cash than make an honest living. People who bought those books were hunting personal grails and may have waited their whole lives for the opportunity to pick one up - sometimes stretching their finances to do so. The people at CGC are good folks who were spending their holidays under intense pressure while sorting through records and piecing together the story of what happened using their own paper trail. Some boardies took time out away from their families as well to hunt through photos and sales records to help document what happened. Everyone involved is doing their best. I try to limit my impatience to people who suggest they aren't.
  15. The transition in this thread from "OMG, CGC is not making a statement because they don't care about us, aren't doing anything behind the scenes, and want to protect their own butts" to "OMG, CGC is not pursuing legal channels because they don't care about us, aren't doing anything behind the scenes, and want to protect their own butts" was breathtakingly seamless.
  16. Similarly, you dont get to decide what parts of an ongoing criminal investigation can be revealed to you in a public statement.
  17. This is common. If a company has something wrong with their processes that leads to a bad result they hire someone external to review those processes and make recommendations. That way the changes implemented will be solid and not rooted in the same decision trees and assumptions that led to issues to begin with.
  18. The big benefit of this idea is that it works with current slabs and inner sleeves and would be a quick retrofit to the current process. The downside is it would be hard to verify for people casually looking at the slab. The idea I advocate is putting the label into the sleeve in its own sealed compartment at the top. This would take development time and cost following by the manufacturing process, so 9-12 months would be a reasonable guess. I see your idea as a great stop-gap solution to use but I would still advocate for a re-design in the long term.
  19. I remember you posting about that in the TaT thread and I thought of you. I would check to see if whatever change they made was already active by the time they did your books. There is no reason to believe they waited until their official announcement to make the changes to their processes.
  20. I sent in a 24 book Modern submission and was hoping that my books would make it through grading by Christmas, but I have to say that I am now kind of happy that they are still in SFG because whatever fix they put into place will be active.
  21. waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat never heard of it
  22. CGC posted it on their page, on their IG, and on their FB pages. I am sure You Tubers are shooting videos on it as we speak. Considering it is the holiday season it may take longer than usual for word to get around. For now, I suspect the ones who are unaware are those who like a social media-free holiday season (bless them), and those who opt not to see CGC announcements in general.
  23. Depends on what the changes are. If they find a retrofit solution using the current slabs and inner sleeves they can implement it quickly even as a stop-gap solution. If they do something like encasing the label in the sleeve it would involve a redesign of cases and sleeves followed by the manufacturing time to make the new product. That is not a short process. It will definitely be interesting to watch moving forward.
