  1. I asked about this one time and the answer I got was that the submission number and slab number stays as the original submission.
  2. Honestly, If I got "poorly pressed" as a grader note I would take it as "duuuuuude, time to find a new pressor." If I was the one that pressed them I would take some time to learn more about pressing before pressing and submitting more.
  3. Saw a couple of these at the current Comic Link auction. At first I thought the art was ok but something seemed kind of off. When I looked closer I realized that it looks like her left leg was growing out of her howler for some reason. The composition is just really not put together in the right way.
  4. I was curious about this statement since I rarely see anyone say "grading is subjective" on these boards, let alone seeing it "ad nauseam", so I did a quick search to see if my memory was off. Out of millions of posts on these boards that term has been used 460 times, and a lot of those are the lead in for sales posts. A bunch have also been used pejoratively (e.g., people who can't grade say "grading is subjective"). There could be more instances in different forms, such as "we all know there is a subjective side to grading" and other similar wordings, but I feel pretty safe in saying these boards are not some type of echo chamber with people blurting "grading is subjective" every time someone criticizes CGC.
  5. My ME submission of three books was opened and hit SFG today, Apr 8th.
  6. Nice books! If I can make a tiny suggestion - if you take them out of the bags before photographing them the pictures will look even more purdy
  7. Hello, I have cool trade paperback that I was thinking of sending in. There are three already in the census so I know CGC grades them, but I am not clear on whether they go in regular comic submissions or something else - it is pretty thick. Last thing I want to do is send it in an have it came back across the border on its own because it was put into a different submission category. Thank you in advance for your help.
  8. Just ran across this bad boy in a collection of trade paperbacks and hard covers I bought earlier today, and I am seriously considering sending it in for grading. Does anyone know whether thick trade paperbacks like this go under regular comic submissions?
  9. Waiting for the books is no big deal for me, although I do get super curious with results to see how I did. If there was some way of knowing grades early I could wait months for the actually shipment back without being too fussed about it all. The worst part about this submission is I actually thought I made it in under the wire and ahead of MegaCon stuff. It arrived on Mon the 1st and books that were in the system by the 2nd were going through at lightning speed. Most of my submissions lately have been opened the day after arrival so I thought I was golden. Unfortunately, I the MegaCon submission were processed just ahead of mine. C'est la vie.
  10. There must have been a huge mass of submissions from MegaCon. The boxes for my MODERN submission that arrived on Mon Apr 1 and an ME submission that arrived on Tues Apr 2 have not even been opened yet. A part of the delay on the ME is my fault though since I forgot to write ME on the box this time, so it looks like any other submission.
  11. I think there are at least two possible explanations, and the changes you describe may be some mix of the two. The last time I checked a couple of years ago, the search feature on Ebay was kind of wonky. Simply improving the search engine to catch desired results could explain a lot of it. If this is the case, the number of comics listed has been more stable than the search results imply. Another possible explanation is that people are dumping comics now that prices are tumbling. I know I cleaned out my PC and listed a bunch of books for sale that I was originally planning on keeping. You gotta do what you gotta do.
  12. Aw man, my books made it in a day late and are on the wrong side of the convention glut right now. Box hasn't even been opened yet. Great to see those incredible turnaround times for you!
  13. Just to give the benefit of the doubt, the seller did say that he is working on having it removed without penalty. When you run an Ebay auction like this and cancel before it ends I believe you get dinged with the selling fees anyway. If giving the benefit of the doubt is not your thing, it takes 15 mins or less to contact an ebay rep online and explain the issue. Even if Ebay management had to get involved, he could have done so and had the listing removed by now.
  14. I submitted a High Value submission less than two months ago and back then it was just under two weeks from SFG to shipped.
  15. 25 Book Modern submission April 1 - Delivered to CGC
  16. I have to pass this time around since I would not be able to complete the contest if I started it. Best of luck to all involved and hopefully I will be ready to go next time around.
  17. Got this in a collection a few years back and I am keeping it. A low value Spidey comic that came with a cassette tape of The Ramones singing the theme song from the Spider-Man cartoon I grew up with. Worthless as a flip, priceless to me.
  18. Call me a sucker if you want, but I am proud to have this 9.9 in my PC. The grading is right, but the art work.... anyone know why Spidey's right foot is backwards?
  19. This show is only ok for me, but I am coming in without reading the books. Just finished episode 5 so I will ride it out to the end.
  20. As far as I know, you are allowed to make buyers pay immediately for buy it now items. It does not work the same for auctions or make an offer sales.
  21. Looks like my timing is unlucky once again. I have a shipment of moderns that are set to arrive at CGC around mid week, and they will enter into the system right after the WonderCon in-person submissions. Last time this happened to me they did make it right on TAT (which still impresses me), but no real chance of getting a quick turnaround.
  22. I've submitted hundreds of books that landed on 9.8 without a single one hitting a 9.9. Out of that group I figure a couple of them had a decent shot at 9.9, but there is only one I still think about. Prior to the comic boom and prices shooting through the roof I bought a slabbed ASM 14 from a local guy. To help make the deal happen the guy threw in his raw copy of ASM 238. When he pulled it out I noticed it was kept in a king size bag and board. When I asked about that he told me that he bought it off the stand, put it into that oversize bag and board, and put it away without ever opening it. When I pulled the 238 out it was completely flawless - the corners were so sharp it was like you could cut yourself on them, the colour was as deep as what you see on new comics currently on the stands. When I opened it up to check the tattooz insert it definitely felt like the first time that comic had ever been opened. I sent it in for grading and I remember thinking to myself that if I ever get a 9.9 this is the book that will do it. The grades came back and it landed on 9.8, and this was the only time I have ever been completely ticked off at getting a 9.8 grade. I kept it for a while and moved on from it at the start of the comic boom when prices started to rise. I did save the cert number, and if I see it again I will probably try to buy it back. I have thought about this book a lot since the 9.9 pre-screen thing was announced and I am conflicted. On one hand I would love to see books like hit 9.9, but on the other I wonder if my 238 got a fair shot at 9.9 to begin with. Maybe it did and I missed something, I dunno. But if I found a way to buy it back it would be at the top of my list of books to send in for a 9.9 pre-screen.
  23. My streak of no MEs has come to an end. Got a shipment back 2 days ago where four books have plastic shards trapped in between the case and the comic, and many slabs have all kinds of scuffing (you can see it in the scan below). I contacted customer service and started an ME for the shards, and asked where the lines are currently drawn for scuffing. I know there were changes a while back, but have not had to return anything for scuffing since then so I dont know what current best practices are.
  24. Different scanners will be set slightly differently. I prefer the scan that is not heavy on the white because it washes out a bit, while the other one has deeper colours. To my eye background white means less than rich reds and blues.
