Hi recently purchased a Spider-man Venom Double Trouble 2 Momoko. Front cover is in good condition with no problems, just a couple of concerns on the back. The spine tick is tiny and was hard to spot as the back cover is an advert designed to look like a damaged poster. The colour-breaking tick is by the 2.1cm mark (it's not 2.1 cm long : ) The tiny edge damage is by the 2cm mark What chance of a 9.8 with these two flaws? T Thanks for looking

Thanks - good to know it's nothing to be concerned about. Is that done with all bronze age books (or more modern)? I didn't realise it was part of the grading and slabbing process...

Had this one for a while and wondered what this white insert is? It's a 9.4 GL #87 in an older (thicker) CGC slab. Different colour and texture to the pages of the book, so what is it? Cheers. Paul

Bought a lovely bronze age item (Wonder Woman #204 9.4) from Greg. His communication, attitude and approach were exceptional. First time I have ever bought something off the board and he made me feel as if I was in very safe hands. Delivery was quick and he kept an eye on its progress from the US to UK. Really hard to imagine a better service from start to finish. Happy to recommend to all : )

All going great so far. The seller has gone 'by the book' and wanted to act in line with all of the good advice listed here. Book was purchased via a PayPal invoice in the Goods & Services function, and is currently in transit - cannot wait for it to arrive. Seller offered a competitive price and this included any PayPal fees. Thanks again for all of the helpful tips and hints.

Hi All, A seller has kindly responded to my WTB request today. We have agreed a price and are both keen to proceed. What is the best way to pay/manage the transaction so that both parties are sufficiently well-protected? I have never bought using this method before and he hasn't sold in this way (I believe), so we are both a little in the dark despite being ready to hit 'go' Many thanks.

As a relative newbie, I have to say I don't expect 9.8s to be perfect. I get there are two higher grades : ) I have made efforts to educate myself, but it's not easy in a world of conflicting views. What is difficult for me is trying to determine some semblance of what the rules and guidelines are. I have familiarised myself with the Overstreet Guide and examples, which I found to be really helpful. However, I appreciate CGC does not use the OS Guide. The 9.8 book I received is a good case in point. Most of what I have read and understood before would lead me to believe the three faults I found would leave 9.8 beyond the reach of the book. Experienced people on this one thread have given different opinions. I have also asked in other circles and received some strongly asserted feedback, that doesn't align with some of the suggestions on here. When I look at books I own, a lot of my 9.8s are almost perfect. I have an ASM Dell'Otto Virgin Variant that looks just as crisp and free of problems as my 9,8s, but received a 9.6. Yet, I receive a 9.8 with two colour-breaking spine stresses and a tiny corner crease and it achieves 9.8? It seems to me that at the highest grades there is not an enormous level of consistency and not a great deal of consensus... Interestingly, the seller had kindly agreed to accept a return and believes some damage must have occurred during shipping (the box did arrive battered and bruised)...so maybe he agrees it doesn't meet 9.8 standards anymore? As some general feedback to the forum (based on some of the posts I read, not just this one), there are some really helpful and supportive people - and I really appreciate how they freely give their time to assist us learners. There are others who seem to come from a 'look at this insufficiently_thoughtful_person's post' perspective, which is a bit off-putting. This is the Newbie's area of the board and some of us are trying to learn the ropes...do cut us a bit of slack...grading seems to be art rather than science. Thanks and peace to all.

Hi All, Just wanted a piece of advice/feedback please. I recently bought, via eBay, a 9.8 copy of All New Marvel Now! Point One #1 for the Kamala Khan first full appearance. The seller has been great, but when the well-packed slab arrived today, I noted a couple of things that concerned me. The first are two colour-breaking stress lines on the spine and the second is what looks like a small colour-breaking crease on the bottom corner (spine). I feel pretty sure that this is problematic for a 9.8, but wanted a second opinion or two before I approach the seller for a refund. I paid FMV (as suggested by Go Collect) and it was not advertised as having any problems. What do you think? Many thanks. Thanks for the replies. Good food for thought Would really value some additional views. I am still trying to get a sense if two small ticks are acceptable at 9.8 I have never seen them on any of my other 9.8s...

I am trying to be rational and informed about this decision. If two spine ticks are OK at 9.8, then I might consider keeping it. If I have bought a bit of a turkey for $300, then I want to return it. The seller seems like a decent guy in all of our interactions, so I don't want to be unreasonable. I must admit to being pretty surprised when I saw the ticks - hence this thread.

To be fair, the guidance he gives me when inspecting my raw books is often right on the nose when I see the grades I eventually get from CGC and CBCS

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I did think that colour-breaking spine ticks automatically disqualified a book from 9.8? My LCBS owner often gives me that guidance. I thought a book maxed at 9.4 if the colour breaks in a spine tick/stress? Still learning though - hence my seeking out the input of seasoned veterans : )

Hi all, I have a Green Lantern #87 in a 9.4. It actually looks great in the CGC holder, with virtually no obvious defects. The grading notes indicate there are some spine bends and eraser marks. Neither of these issues are visible to the eye in the case. From a bit of research I can see that spine bends could be addressed, but not really sure about the eraser marks. I can't even see them! I wondered if this would be a good candidate for pressing? There is a $275 dollar difference between a 9.4 and 9.6 on Go Collect. Appreciate any thoughts you might have. Cheers. Paul

Hi All, Just looking for a small piece of advice. I have noticed recently that quite a few Marvel covers have areas of faded colour, sometimes almost to white, in patches aligned down a page. Is this a production fault and how significant is it to a grade? One seller on eBay called it 'colour rub', but I am not sure if that is the correct term? I have the opportunity to buy a War of the Realms Omega 1, that is in very good nick, other than a slightly faded area about 4mm across and 10mm in length. I have a copy of Immortal Hulk 2, that has patches like this, but quite a few of them from top to bottom of the page.
