  1. Hi Noobie here. Still in the process of learning the collecting business and wondered if I could get some help please. I just received a purchase from eBay - Action Comics 700 and noticed the case is significantly thinker than any other CGC cases I own. This could simply be the result of it being a double-sized issue, but wanted to check that I haven't been sold anything dodgy : ) Many thanks
  2. Do you guys typically get new books pressed? I can see why someone would for an obvious indent or fold, but given the potential price differences for a 9.8 over a 9.6 is it worth doing as a matter of routine. If a tiny defect you haven't seen can reduce the grade do you typically do it just in case?
  3. Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. I think I will give it a go and submit it. It is in great condition other than the bindery tears. Have a great weekend.
  4. Hi All, I have an ASM #800 Dell'Otto Virgin Variant in very nice condition other than two very small tears - at the top and bottom of the cover (side where the staples are). I have read and seen that huge numbers of the ASM #800 were like this due to the poor Marvel cover paper quality and the size of the book. I didn't pay a ridiculous price for it and the store that provided it (my normal modern book supplier) indicated that as it effected so many copies that CGC will not be taking this defect into account. Not sure I believe that, but wondered how harsh CGC are about common defects. It looks a 9.8 on all counts other than the two tears. Any thoughts...?
  5. Thank you. That list is brilliant. Really appreciate it Paul
  6. Thanks everyone for these thoughts and ideas. Much appreciated.
  7. Thanks both, appreciate the advice. Who are the best dealers with websites? - being new to this and based in the UK - I'm not sure where to begin looking as there are so many options out there in the US and Canada. A little guidance would be appreciated, if possible, otherwise I will do the 'hard yards' on Google! : )
  8. Hi all, I want to invest in some good quality (9.4+) slabbed items from the DC Bronze Age. In particular, I am thinking about Neal Adams' covers on Green Lantern, Batman, Superman and JLA titles. Later Silver Age DC stuff is also of interest. I have struggled to find UK sources and have been predominantly looking on Ebay (.uk and .com), where the prices requested can vary wildly. I wondered if anyone could recommend reliable, ethical suppliers who specialise in DC Bronze Age stuff? I have bought a couple of items from the US via Best Offer bids, but both of the suppliers are small and have a very restricted range on offer. Many thanks.
  9. Brexit? What is this Brexit of which you speak? We have heard of no such thing in this sceptre isle!
  10. Thanks Bob. I'm tending to agree with you on this. The value at 5.5-6.5 just isn't worth it. Many thanks.
  11. Hi, I'm new to this proper/graded collecting thing, although I've been buying comics in the UK for 40 years. I wondered if I could get a bit of advice about whether or not to submit a relatively modest comic for grading. I recognise that I don't operate in the rarefied heights of serious collectors, so just hoping for a polite response : ) I have a copy of JLA 14 from 1962. It's in reasonable condition - to my untrained eye somewhere in the 7.5 - 8.5 range. However, the top staple has worn through the cover i.e. it is present and holding the other pages in place, but not the cover. The bottom staple is pretty much as it should be. I have no idea how much a defect like this impacts the grade of a book. Can anyone help please. Best wishes from the UK.
  12. Thanks guys. Really appreciate your help. It's a relief to know that my first purchase wasn't a disaster!
  13. Hi All, Just purchased my first CGC comic from Ebay UK - a Shazam #1 (1973) from a 100% positive feedback seller that has been an Ebay member for 9 years. Comic looks in pretty good condition (to my untrained eye) and I verified the serial number on the CGC site. The seals on all four corners look intact and there are no visible cracks anywhere on the case. It is, however, noticeable that the top of the case is not fully sealed along the seam. It's a new style CGC case and I may just be super-paranoid as it is my first purchase. I also have nothing to compare it to, so it's hard to make a judgement Would be delighted if anyone could help and let me know if there is anything I should do. Many thanks from the UK.
