The Unofficial Underground Comix thread...
flashlites replied to 50 Cent #II (1st)'s topic in Comic Magazines
On second thought it may be too graphic to share in this forum?? (I have 2 copies of Pork with the wrap around cover and I believe he drew the inside cover as well) -

Very nice! Love this book! (as I said before ) I will have to get a better copy after I complete the run as mine has a huge chunk out of the cover.

Very nice little collection there!!!! Love, love, love that cover of 116!!! Such a great story in that one, the more Sci-Fi in Flash the better for me 8.5 on that 106??!!! Amazing! And look at that beautiful purple color on that 108! Thanks for sharing!

I think there's a 9.4 in the census but that's about it just 350 or so in the whole census!? I would venture to say that there may be less than 1500 copies total, more likely 1000 or less that have survived to the present day! It's listed as scarce in the guide, scarce is defined as 50-100 copies (in the guide). But I think OPG my need to redefine those definitions as they were created back in the 70's and 80's and over time more copies have come into the market, still the market has also grown along with it. This has kept the availability and demand at roughly the same level, still scarce in my opinion, 1000 copies to circulate in a market that has grown 10 fold in the last 30 years. What do you guys think?

Very nice copy Terry!!! So very hard to see this book in the higher grades! My original 106 would have probably graded 4.5-5.0 (VG-VG+) as I sold it long before the 10 point grading system.

Why don't we all do a show and tell of 106? Share a photo of your 106. I read it last night and it brought back memories. I loved how Solovar promised Flash at the end that Grodd will not be able to escape. But of course he does in 107 and he's been getting out ever since for the last 60 years!

Just thought I'd share a little group shot with you. I pulled my 105 out of the box earlier today and had them paired up all day to the side of my desk. Looking over at them together for the first time made me smile throughout the day. It was just so hard to believe that I finally have both of these issues, I could not resist doing it as a kind of affirmation of reality. I began collecting Flash "back issues" (as we called them in those days) sometime in the mid 1970's. I happened upon a scarce 106 in 1976 or 77 and bought it for 60$ with lawn mowing money. A huge sum for me at the time! I did not even know what a 105 looked like but I knew I had to find one someday. In all my years collecting Flash I have never owned both of them. So today was special for me and to see them together, wow! Together at last!

I will tonight - its a little fragile as the cover may or may not be hanging on by a thread - but when I was ever so gingerly flipping through it and grading it and giving it a nice new Mylar sleeve, I was inspired by the story again. I am a huge Grodd fan and I love how Broome combined all those elements to create that villain. Sci-Fi, jungle/adventure, superhero, crime, telepathy. I will probably read it again tonight in my omnibus!

On a side collecting note back in 1988 when I had to let my first 106 go and sold it at the local comic shop (for less than 50% of book value) I knew that there was a real chance that I would never again own this scarce comic. But today I am so proud to have this one!!! It's in rough shape but at least it has a cover, and with my budget restraints a coverless copy, if I could find one was a real possibility for me if I was going to complete this collection. As I've said before I kinda run a boarding house for wayward and abused Flash Comics. So glad this 106 finally found its way to a nice Flashy home. Certainly worthy the very rare double dancing bananas!
