If you're going to get them graded immediately I would sell them immediately but I would just hold on to about 5 or so copies of each store copy that you get and just hang on to them.  If you're in no hurry to sell them just keep them raw for a while.

ok cool that's easy enough to do :)

I'm a big fan of these covers ;)

Sidenote - there are like 150+ store versions (along with a retail copy) of this cover - all of which have different logos in the broken window.  It's a cool cover but not necessarily high dollar investment long term as it's technically a reprint.  However, there are limited copies of each one so if you could get a handful and store them away there will be some completist collectors down the road who will want them (so store them well and just be patient). 2c

I never thought of that. But would you spend the money to get em graded or wait until you got 5 to 10 stores?

Depends on your reason for wanting to get it graded....

If its because you like the book, it has you LCS stamp on it, and it for your personal collection...sure

If its because you think you can flip it for mad money...pass

I am not going to want to flip it tomorrow or even the next day but 30 40 years down the road maybe.  But its kinda what I thought

  4. Hello fellow collectors,

Not sure if I am posting in the right area or not but hear goes nothing. My local comic book store has released a Walking Dead #1 issue. The book looks exactly as it did when it was first released the only exception is it has the logo of the local comic book shop in the window.   I know its never going to get what the original first print got, but does anyone think it would be worth grading it?  Pic of comic attached

  5. I am 100% aware that you need a CGC witness to get the coveted yellow label. With that being I am wondering if anyone has gotten a non slabbed book from the JscottCampbell website  and then got it slabbed? if you did would you mind telling me: 1) if you just took the Green label or the blue label with the lesser grade?  2)  What did you do with the COA? I know CGC wont slab it with

Thank you all in advance for reading and helping out.

I've witnessed a wax paper experiment first hand. It melts and sticks to the paper. The book was ruined. I do not know the temperature applied. All in all, a totally stupid idea.

In all seriousness I do appreciate the advice.  As I mentioned in a previous post on this thread I'll probable try the iron idea on a comic from the .50 cent or dollar bin. With that being said I will further add it may be several months if not year(s) before I comfortable enough to do that with a comic I would want to slab

I could seriously see me burning a hole into a comic the first few times I even try it. If not having the famed iron burn mark lol hell I still have a least one shirt that I burnt with an iron. but getting off subject. Anyway wax paper good for cookies not good for pressing comics

I would not use wax paper, as it might melt and get it on to the comic. Really you just need a hard surface that is fine being exposed to heat. This rather rough method isn't to great with small dents and folds, but you could try. Just make sure you experiment A LOT on crappy $1 books before you actually try it on something valuable, cuz you might destroy it. Pretty much all my methods described are experimental and pretty primitive, so go ahead and try it if you want to, but you might destroy your comic. But, hey, you might not. :wishluck:

Just in case: I am not liable in anyway to any damage you might cause to your comic.

    Good luck!

thank god the comic book store up the road has a box of comics that are all .50 cents

Its something I'll try but most likely not something I'll try on something i'll personally try on this book.  As its already slabbed I am not going to risk removing it from the slab and damaging it further.

What happens to your sentimental value when you send the book off to be machine-manipulated, or take a hot iron to it yourself to crush out some waves and rolls?  It's not exactly one of the first comics you bought as a kid and held onto all these years anymore, is it?

    Damn i hate logic. ?

Doing it myself is not logical at least with this book.

Has anyone had a bad expirance sending a book to get pressed?

Has anyone sent there book in for pressing and look back at it as the best thing they ever done?

Yes pressing in a general sense can be worth it depending on if there are creases that don't break color (as in turns the color white, that would be a color breaking crease and can not be pressed out).  A book such as X-Men #1 (1991) is a very cool book with a great cover but not valuable by any means due to its huge print run and taking the book you already had graded to get regraded wouldn't make any financial sense at all.  I'd suggest getting a higher grade copy to begin with raw (not graded) if you'd like to get a higher grade back from CGC for your own personal collection.  It isn't a book to invest in but maybe it has sentimental value for you, hence your wanting of a higher grade.

And for me thats more of the point its one of the first comics I bought as a kid and it does have sentimental value to me.

  10. Hello community!

This is my first time posting, so be kind, and I apologize if this question has been asked and is deep in the bowels of the CGC forms.

Is pressing worth it? Can pressing bring a grade up from 8.5 to a 9.0 +?

I ask because I will be getting some books back from from CGC shorty that I had graded. Two of my books have came back with a grade of 8.5 because of light bends to the cover spine stress and or light creases in the cover. Although I am over all happy with the grades if sending the books back for pressing will get me up to a 9.0 grade or higher then why not.

    Thank you for the help.
