  1. Sounds fair- let me know when you do the next one locallishly I would love to check out your stuff and haggle a bit!
  2. Ah- I can not remember if I went to the JP show in December ( I try to go to the Clifton show every month). I am not familiar with the Reed show? I do like the Suffolk show on the Island though.
  3. Bob- you are in NYC or upstate? Just wondering If i have seen you at shows I go to.
  4. Pm incoming... now we need to make it worth while shipping from Canada
  5. This is a very good approach and evens the playing field.. I like it!
  6. I do not think anyone wants to negotiate... I think that is what we have created in the marketplace for collectibles. You do not go into macy's and negotiate on shoes. You are correct that you can not help if negotiating is not someones wheelhouse, but then dealers should also not get offended by low ball offers from people who are not adept at it or on books that are priced without that built in discount.
  7. October- that is fair. And if you price like you do here very understandable. But so many dealers price to build in a "discount" at shows that it has become the norm to have to ask for the best price. That is the point I was trying to make to Bob.
  8. I assume you took this from my response, so as you said.. there is an implied/expected discount. you said you even post what discount is on the box. well if that discount is happening why not just price the books at that number? Is the higher number there to make it look attractive? Or to take advantage of a newbie or someone shy about asking for a discount (not necessarily you who posts them but the avg dealer)
  9. My point was that he had already built in a discount as his answer was immediate. Why not just price things as they should be instead of forcing people to haggle? I know a fair amount of the local dealers and know each and everyone of them are going to come down on the price (with a few exceptions on uber hot/key etc) from what is on the book. Was the price fair on the book I described? $110 was overpriced. $90 was probably about market for the book, why did I go to $75? Because why not get the best deal I can? I am sure if someone else picked the book up did not ask about room on it he would have gladly taken the $110 with no complaints. If he did not think my offer was fair there was space to counter.
  10. At shows at least by me (North Jersey) dealers are there to deal.. meaning they usually price a bit hi expecting to negotiate. I usually ask if they have room then offer about 25% off what their price is , especially if multiple books. All they can do is say no, but most just counter somewhere in between and I go from there. Good example- at a recent show I picked up a decent copy of Forever People 1- it was marked $110 - I asked if he had room.. he immediately said he could do $90 - I now knew he was motivated to sell, so I said I could do $75 he thought for a second and accepted. That was 32% below marked. I probably would have went a bit higher but he showed his cards with initial reaction.
  11. Just in from the Philippines.. direct from Mico Suayan the Marvels 25th Anniversary Variant Cover for Captain Marvel 6. Incredibly happy to own this piece. I think he captures so much emotion and the essence of what the X-Men comics are about.
  12. Nice Piece! I am going to the show Sunday I think... I do not think there is even a thread on the events page about it...
  13. I got a couple books signed when I was out in chicago...I had no idea what it would cost (not expecting $100 dollars a signature) until I got to the front of the line, at that point I had the slabs cracked and was there so I did it . When I got home I posted the book on instagram saying something about the price and he complained in my comments
  14. I saw this thread a while ago and have been thinking about it since. I guess after Mitch debating beating out my Phoenix by Stroman it is still the fastball special by Nate Stockman
  15. Here is one of the subscriptions adds I was talking about- Byrne alpha flight at its finest!
  16. I have not.. But I have no proof it was not there before or who did it, it could have happened with the artist or with CGC. I did not take pictures of the book because it was supposed to be done on cite but Jay got sick and did not finish by the end of the show.
  17. No one even told me about it until I saw the notes from CGC when it was finalized
  18. Jay Leisten from C2E2... unfortunately somewhere in its travels from Chicago to jays house to Cgc and back to New Jersey it caught a tape pulling the back... hence the 7.5 but happy with the art.
