  1. Not ready to put on the market just yet. Using the romance comics as gateway drug to get my wife hooked. It's working.
  2. I just read Ditko's "Paper Romance!" The story turns out to be the feature, with cover shot taken from the story. Speaking of the story, it's a hot one.
  3. Bidding came down to a guy from PA who introduced himself as an auction house consigner named Ozzie., a local doctor, and tabcom. The voice of my wife was echoing in my head before the auction began. 'We just bought a house last week and you are going to an auction?' When I got home and showed her what I won, what did she say, 'Why didn't you buy more.' No complaints, happy with the whole experience.
  4. Thanks. I gave up on estate sales for several years. Thought this one had a chance,
  5. I would say 7's would be the average for black covers, higher for rest. All would benefit from a proper pressing. Page quality OW/W. Amazing for the condition considering the environment they've been in for sixty years.
  6. Ran out of memory on the camera. It was for the best, needed to get my bids in.
  7. Item Description read: "Great collection of old comic books, Approx. 200, 40's-60's era, topics include horror, mysteries, western, crime, military, supernatural, romance - all in nice condition" Supported by one photo . . .
  8. Estate Auction: original owner 200+ Pre-code, romance, and a Batman #11 Attended an auction today in South Bend, Indiana.
  9. Wonder Woman #110November 1959 This issue has it all. Alien invasion, siren song femme fatale, goddess worshiping natives, robots, and yet another loyalty test for the Colonel. Another long lost classic of the DC Silver Age.
  10. My strategy is to eliminate my watch list items that have high dollar bids on Day 1 (too much demand) and focus on the list that got overlooked. Hopefully, this is a good forecast to finding comics I like for a fair market value.
  11. With a seller username of tr.ntni.pw0gk9ccwp, you know you are in save hands.
  12. Mrs. tabcom, "What happen to our down payment on a new house?" Mr. tabcom, "Oh, I bought a couple comics from 'The Jon Berk Collection'."
  13. Wonder Woman #109October 1959 When I first started reading these stories a few months back, I was confused if Wonder Girl was more similar to Superboy or Kid Flash. Like her Superboy counterpart, Wonder Girl is the teenage version of Wonder Woman. An unanswered question is, 'why doesn't Queen Hippolyte age?' Well worn storyline used again with satisfying results. Make mine Natalie Wood.
  14. Fascination what a whole economic cycle will do to the value of comics. An ounce of gold closed for $869 in 2008. Today it is around $1250 (+30%). Confirms my bias that as a collector, don't sell anything.
  15. Having read dozens of these late GA stage WW stories, other than the revamped origin element (I liked) of WW#98, the plots are not much different from what came before. Giant eagle, menacing fish, enemy sub attack , lovestruck Steve Trevor (getting stale), magical conclusion for the sake of helping kids. What set this issue apart from previous stories are two things. The 25 page format is more fluid then the previous 3 story format. The art is much improved. WW doesn’t feel like a static wood carved stencil. I like her straight hair vs. the old fashion curly doo. WW#99 is a clean break from her GA past. You need to think of SA WW as an evolution rather then a wholly created entity.
  16. Having documented the evolution of the silver age Wonder Woman in detail, I would select Wonder Woman #99 as the first full Silver Age issue.
