  1. Our roundtable episodes are some of our most popular, so welcome back Gene Park and Andy Robbins along with new guest Yo Kuri! We got together to talk about NYCC, the first major convention since the pandemic. But, as usual, it ends up being a deeper dive into the hobby. Hear about recent auctions, the MIRACLEMAN #1 cover recreation hubbub, the emergence of a new class of collectors, and more! Thanks as always for listening, enjoy! http://www.felixcomicart.com/podcastdetail.asp?pId=54
  2. New podcast episode will be dropping soon, but in the meantime, I've started a new series on my YouTube channel: UNBOXING / ART SHOW. Each episode, I open up packages that I've gotten in the mail from the artists. So the audience gets to see it all for the first time, alongside me. This is a livestream, and viewers can participate in the chat. It's been a lot of fun. We also do a segment where I, or a guest, show off art from our collection that has not been shared before. So a peek at pieces that haven't been on CAF and would not have been seen otherwise. Check it out on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/FelixComicArt/videos We have some other plans with collectors in sharing their art on the show in the coming months. There's a ton of stuff that most art fans haven't seen before. Stay tuned!
  3. This is a nightmare scenario for sure. As with everything else related to this hobby, a good idea to do your homework first.
  4. I've now heard from both the underbidder and the winner. I was actually informed about it by the underbidder...I wasn't watching and had no idea. Even to me, this was insane. Treating it as an outlier and it won't affect our pricing of his art. Obviously, if this turns out to not be an outlier, then we will have to re-examine. But for now, maintaining status quo.
  5. It was disappointing back in 2004, too...when it first showed up at SDCC that year. I wasn't collecting OA back then (outside of a few random pieces), but a friend knew I was into all things Alan Moore, so very excitedly told me that Garry Leach had brought the MIRACLEMAN #1 original cover with him to sell. Only to find out that it was an unpublished recreation. An exceedingly well-done recreation. But still a recreation. Even back then, that kinda killed it for me. When I saw it this past weekend at Albert's NYCC booth, I knew what it was before Albert confirmed it. As well, the actual original is an auction piece, and not something you'd find on a dealer's wall. To muddy the waters even further, there's yet ANOTHER version of this cover out there. Marvel commissioned Leach to recreate the art again for a variant cover for their MIRACLEMAN relaunch in 2014 (see below). I was offered the art at that time, and passed. But I did think about it longer than I did for the unpublished version. Anyway, that's out there, if anyone wants to hunt for it.

  11. From eBay circa 2007. $40K BIN. Did not sell immediately. I know the seller. Owned a comics/toy shop in SD. All sorts of interesting things walked in through his doors...
  12. I told you the schedule would be sporadic...only this time, you didn't have to wait months for a fix. The latest episode of The Felix Comic Art Podcast is up! With popular show guests GENE PARK, ANDY ROBBINS, and LAMBERT SHENG! Our topic: The state of the comic art market! The Felix Comic Art Podcast (Episode 44): The State of the Comic Art Market with Gene Park, Andy Robbins, and Lambert Sheng We recorded the episode two weekends ago, right as the lastest Signature comic art auction from Heritage Auctions had concluded. The timing was right, because I've been wanting to talk to these guys for a while about the unprecedented rise in values over the past year or so. If you've been wondering, too, then this one's for you. Plus all the usual hobby insights from some of the sharpest collectors around. Thanks to my pals for joining me!
  13. The Felix Comic Art Podcast returns for June 2021 with a special guest: Pixar animator and art collector, Andy Beall.Andy is a veteran animator who got his start on the beloved classic, THE IRON GIANT. He was then recruited by the Charles Schulz estate to direct the PEANUTS special, HAPPINESS IS A WARM BLANKET, CHARLIE BROWN, as well as write and draw the original comic THE BEAGLE HAS LANDED, CHARLIE BROWN! But the bulk of his career has been at Pixar, where he was worked on countless favorites, starting with THE INCREDIBLES.Besides being a guest on the show, though, Andy has done something special for fans and collectors: He has created a series of drawings featuring all of the iconic characters he’s been associated with. Including an absolutely gorgeous cover-quality piece for THE IRON GIANT. All of these will be available soon. But even more impressively, Andy has donated all of this art to benefit our charity, the Lu Family Fund. 100% of all proceeds from this sale will support cancer patients and their families via our fund. My gratitude to Andy for his incredible generosity. Please sign up for the newsletter on our site at www.felixcomicart.com to get all the details. Again, we will be making the drop announcement soon.Oh, and here’s a spoiler: Andy is one of the most prolific commenters on Comic Art Fans. If you don’t recognize his name, it’s because he posts under the pseudonym, “Kent Mansley”. If you have a CAF gallery, then you probably have a comment from Kent Mansley on one of your pieces. Whether he goes by Andy or Kent, I’m proud to call him a friend. Thank you, Andy! BONUS: For those of you who missed my talk with TRADD MOORE at Comic Art LIVE! a few months ago, we've added it at the end so you can enjoy this VERY rare appearance by Tradd! And as an added bonus, we close out this episode with a chat I had with CAF's Bill Cox! Our longest episode to date, enjoy! http://www.felixcomicart.com/podcastdetail.asp?pId=48
  14. Just watched the debut episode. Jump ahead to 48:20, where in describing the piece for sale, Bechara declares "I think it's the truth...so uh...you know...sometimes that's all you need." Followed by laughter from everyone. Which begs the question...what about the other times? https://youtu.be/mbJkdMQjCfA?t=2892
  15. Fantastic pickups, Terry...congrats. I don't monitor auctions as closely as I used to, so would have missed these entirely if a fellow collector hadn't alerted me to them (thanks J!). I was shocked at how these pages went. But they were all excellent examples. Presumably same consignor for this batch of pages showing up. Every page in the book is gorgeous work by Rogers...but this guy got some really prime ones. Wonder if it was Harlan? Heard he had a few pages...
  16. Dealmaker: Look...me and the Dueling Dealers people...we got this little misunderstanding. Audience: <confused> Dealmaker: See, they're the Dueling Dealers. We're the Dueling DealMAKERS. Audience: <skeptical> Dealmaker: They got rounds. Ours are..."levels". Audience: <playing along> Dealmaker: See, they got a claim show. We got a claim program. We both have two dealers competing to see who will sell the most, with a winner and a loser at the end. BUT...they try to get $250 for their Pop Mhan pages. We try to get $2000 for ours.
  17. BUT...they do their show on Wednesday. We do ours on Sunday.
  18. Very good result. Yes, it was published, but not instantly recognizable because of the way the art was formatted. Was available for a time with a dealer for quite a bit less not that long ago. Seller did well on a flip.
  19. There's a premium assigned to the early pages because a. they're early and b. they have lettering on them as a bonus. Still, these went for higher than I would have guessed. I'm sure there will be new interest thanks to the show...time will tell if this is the new normal for Y pages.
  20. No need to fear annoying these art (drug) dealers. You could insult their mothers, but if you type in "claim", they'll gladly take your money.
  21. No, you're missing the point. It's not about a "claim show". There are many ways to do a claim show. This is about co-opting Bill's idea, and pretending it's their own.
  22. Is plagiarism flattery? Is calling your imitation "the very best claim show" flattery? "Copying is the greatest form of flattery" is somehow meant to make everyone feel better about it. Maybe...but really only if the source is acknowledged. Otherwise, it's a ripoff. This is a ripoff. I really shouldn't have been shocked by the shamelessness of it all, but still amusing to be told to hang on while they went over the format of the show. Which was a verbatim replica of Bill's show. Presented as if this was totally new and novel. And not something we've all already seen before from someone else. Only instead of rounds, they're "levels". Instead of a recap, it's a "bonus round". Oh, and it will be a pseudo-competition with a "winner" and a "loser". So totally different, not the same thing at all! But unlike "other" shows (gee, I wonder which other show), this one will be more serious and not so funny. Actually, this was quite funny... You're welcome to root for them. Enjoy your Big Mic. I'll root for those with original ideas. I don't root for knockoffs.
