  1. Books should be stored in a dark environment (if possible). Incandescent lighting (regular bulbs) should be used and windows should be covered to minimize direct sunlight.

Fluorescent bulbs emit stronger UV rays and will degrade comics faster than regular incandescent lighting.

    What about LEDs?

  2. Curious...why do so many of you display expensive or beloved comic books in the light? I've never understood this. I suppose it's OK with expensive and UV protected holders, but it's so easy to print out a nice color copy of a favorite comic. With a printed copy, who cares what happens to it, and you can still enjoy the cover. Shouldn't comics be stored in a dark, cool, relatively dry, and pest free room?

Just wondering... I am a collector who really enjoys Amazing Spider-Man issues in high grade, and I have never displayed a copy in the light. I put them in a Mylar with a full back or send them for CGCing.

All the best and Merry Christmas!

    Daaaaammmmmnnnn! Nice haul! :applause:

    +1

Just wondering if you sourced most of those books in one lot or over a period of time? Very impressive haul.

No, I picked these up over 15 years or so. Most were purchased off eBay in ones and twos. The high grade Doc and Champions I got from a minister years ago, through eBay. He had some wonderful, high grade white-paged books. My focus is Amazing Spider-Man, and many of these are "NM" copies from eBay. Some turned our great like the ASM 91 9.8, but you see quite a few 9.0s. I've gotten better buying raw copies, but I normally pick CGC'd ones now.

I keep coming back to these shelves, they are just awesome. Can't think of a better way to store and display your books at the same time with such little space.

Awesome shelves (thumbs u ! Do/can they accommodate CGC books as well?

Yes do they accommodate CGC books?

    Also - are they IKEA?

What about the light affecting the comics, even in the CGC cases or bags?

Everything I've read is cool, dark place.

    V/R,

    Mike

  7. The Vault of Kramerica came through when I needed it. I am happy and proud to say that a Tomb of Dracula #41 finally exists in CGC 9.8  White pages too (thumbs u. Easily one of the toughest books in the run. I'm happy with my 9.2 copy so this book is looking for a new home, preferably one with a registry set address and several other 9.8 copies to keep it company

A cool, esoteric Spidey cover! Nice copy indeed. I have a 9.4 which will keep me satisfied. Good luck finding a good home for this one.

  8. Why would CGC be responsible for a slabbed book after the fact if they get it back to whoever subbed it in the same condition it left CGC?

They can't hold the person's hand when it comes to how they handle the book. They also are not accountable if a book is resold multiple times and shipped around the world a few times. These cases are not advertised as being indestructible are they? Nor are they advertised that they will protect the comics within from poor treatment if poorly handled.

I would think CGC would be responsible when the comic is loosely fit into the inner well allowing it to bang around easily. If they can't secure a comic within the inner well, then there is no way it can be reasonably handled without significant rick of damage.

    V/R,

    Mike

  9. Good points re the very high grade comics. One of two damaged comics I have includes a comic that moves pretty easily in the CGC inner sleeve. I would think that's CGC's fault for not securing it correctly. Most CGC comics I own, and I have a couple hundred, are pretty secure in their casing.

I would think many of these would press out if not too significant, but I don't want to turn this into a press or not thread... :signofftopic:

  10. Folks,

I know this has been discussed before, but what do you do when you get a CGC graded comic that has obvious CGC inner case caused damage to the comic from shifting in the case? Does CGC take some responsibility to re-encapsulate the comic? Do some of you try to get the crease/ding pressed out first? What happens when you buy a comic in high grade that has definitely been damaged to an obvious lower grade?

    Thank you...

    V/R,

    Mike

  11. Just bought and received three high-grade ASM slabs from Don. Probably the best packing I've seen, and some terrific additionas to my collection. He was very professional and polite throughout the process. I hope to buy more great ASMs from him in the future!

    V/R, Mike

  12. Just graded... I thought the 91 was a 9.2/9.4, and the 100 is about right. I had no idea the Annual 4 would be a 9.8! WOW! I believe it tops the census! I bought it from someone off eBay years ago for a song. Cool...26 9.4s and 16 9.6s. How do you put a value on a comic like this? Nothing sold in 9.6 even in years per GPA!

  13. Pulled this off of E-Bay with my last $15. I have had one of the OA pages from this book for a number of years now (Got it in an auction with some McFarlane signed Spider-Man #1's.. I think a girlfriend/wife was cleaning house). It is the same size as a regular OA page so I have no idea how to really protect it.

What kind of comic is this one? I've never seen this cover before.

Cool comic with a Spidey cover...what's the background of this comic?

    Thanks!

    V/R, Mike

It was a one-shot book put out by ABC and Marvel in 1967 pimping all the ABC morning cartoon shows. A fun book to own.

Thanks for the info. Another SPidey cover I'll have to find in NM! So many comics, so little time... ;-)
