2 pieces from, I assume, the original Sotheby's auction are up at comiclink for next month. Looks like one has been inked sometime since.
Any new revelations?

Bump!
Added art from DWJ (Wonder Woman: Dead Earth), Ian Bertram (Little Bird), and a Tradd Moore Illustration.
Need to pay for Heritage.

Motivated to move all these pieces to help fund a big acquisition. Free shipping in the US for board members. Just tell me you saw it on CGC Board.

But from my side of the pond, that kind of sucks. So f it. I tried. I’ll just complain about your system, wish I got my commission I wanted to hang on my wall, groan, and probably sell off my DWJ books and ashcans and move on with life
This is a bizarre reaction. Lmao. If you're a big fan that wants a commission badly, why would not getting one cause you to sell off everything you own by the artist you're a fan of???

I just won a Kirby JIM 108 page with Dr Strange! Didn’t think I’d even be in the running but it actually came in almost 2k below my max bid.
deals are still to be had out there!
Which page?

Wholeheartedly agree. I've been hounding Rolex, Rolls Royce, The Louvre and Musee D'Orsay about this exact thing for while! I'm a true fan of those items and they should really start some sort of program to get these goods to a few of us. All I want is a nice submariner and a Van Gogh or Monet.
Funny how being an institution shields you from these judgements that are cavalierly thrown at individual artists. If you do this, you are a high "character" individual, if not, scumbag. Many artists do a ton of high quality free things for fans, already. As far as personal commissions or published pages, all these things are attainable just not instantly for all.

I posted this on the game art group on FB, but thought maybe the folks here might have some insight? Anybody have any?
**
Off topic, but does anyone have any insight on this? Someone clearly wants this badly, but to go from selling for 3600 in 2018 all the way up to a 75k offer now is pretty stunning and certainly doesn't happen, well, pretty much ever. I also tend to think that these rare instances of over the top offers are probably legit because if you were trying to entice someone to make high offers using the make an offer system, you'd never go this high for fear of scaring everyone away. The dates of the offers (3 days windows which is hte expiry period) suggest someone not getting any replies and trying to force the owner to take notice. Check your emails if you bought a Steve Rude around 2018 lol. Sold for 3600 and then offers were:Offers to date:$75,000 on January 25, 2021$50,000 on January 25, 2021$40,000 on January 23, 2021$40,000 on January 16, 2021$12,000 on June 11, 2020$12,000 on June 6, 2020$12,000 on June 3, 2020This owner has some Diamond hands!

I have always been in the habit of keeping OA as-is once acquired, assuming that was the best practice. But is it? Is there some general rule of thumb for Word Bubbles?
My opinion but I think it's acceptable to try and keep OA as close to the original condition/look as possible so in the case of your image, there was clearly text pasted on to create the word balloons. As long as you aren't changing the original image or adding word balloons that weren't ever there, it's acceptable, to me, to try and maintain as much fidelity with the original piece for the sake of conservation.

Was perusing my email and saw that a prominent auction house is selling a prominent piece of art, so I clicked on it and wow. It's just ugly. Super plain, a white background and what looks like a black blob on the page. And they want almost 200 grand for this? It reminds me of the comic book adage, buy the book, not the grade. If it wasn't for the importance of the book that this cover is attached to, it would be worthless (in my opinion). Anyone else have thoughts on this? Or should we just buy bad art because it's "valuable"?
O and before Gene pops in and mocks me, yes Gene I am aware of Ryman's painting having sold for over 20 million lol.
Assuming you're talking about the Miller DKR anniversary cover from comicconnect @ 175k. Head scratcher for me.

Trouble is I don’t do Facebook.
Easiest thing to do is subscribe to the channel on YouTube and you can set alerts to inform you of new videos. Bill usually gives a couple days (at least) notice of upcoming shows/videos.

Disagree re: friend+family. As a buyer, I've encountered no issues and am generally way less concerned about a seller coming through. Obviously, cannot apply to all cases, but I am able to look at a seller's gallery and at get a minimal idea of whether they've transacted with others. The risk to an established seller or collector reputation for not coming through on a sale is high. As a seller, I'm more concerned with a buyer potentially reversing a transaction. This is more the case with buyers with possibly new accounts or less art in their gallery. So what are the options? Either do not sell to anyone new without a larger gallery presence or protect yourself with friends+family or check/wire.
I'm of the belief that there is an influx of new participants in the hobby. Many with recent CAF accounts, and little to no art that his shared. These are cases where it's reasonable for them to have to prove it and establish some sort of social credit. I'd love to get an idea of buyers that have been screwed when buying with friends+family vs. sellers getting screwed with reversed charges on good/services.

Wasn't the whereabouts of this cover revealed in an old Felix Comic Art podcast?
It's actually in one of his show and tell videos. Frequent guest, top collection.

And speaking of Albert...our first episode of SECRET STORIES OF COMIC ART dropped last week for Paltown donors. Our first ever podcast guest was Albert, so fitting that he should be first for our exclusive series, too. He doesn't disappoint. If anyone is interested in having access to this special edition series (currently slated to be six episodes, maybe seven), write me! For now, thanks so much to donors. We have raised almost $25,000 for Paltown in a little over a week. More fun stuff on the way!
Just listened to the 2nd episode and for somebody a couple years into the hobby, these episodes were ridiculously informative and funny as hell! Support a great charity and listen to some great conversations on comic art.

Ecstatic to add this priceless Rocketeer piece by the legend, Dave Stevens to the collection. Masterfully done, this piece as used in multiple formats to promote Dave's most well known creation. His skills and powers are in full force and I am grateful to the Stevens family for allowing this to be under my care. Thank you @cheekyj2112 for making it happen!

Looked like in general covers did well and interiors had very little interest. I haven't done a piece by piece breakdown but this is the sense I'm getting.

The Zeck spidey cover was available for quite some time at 60 or 65k. Any projections for the auction? Over/under?

Tom Fleming of Fanfare probably sent the artwork back to Stuart.
I think that was the Von Grawbadger art and when Fanfare shut down it moved to ES.

Paul Pope + NGE. Appreciative of the effort and research Paul put into this commission. I was a bit hesitant at first to request this subject from Paul as I wasn't sure with his familiarity. However, Paul did some research and even ventured into the 'Rebuild of Evangelion' to create a stunning piece.
2 Eva's battling 2 angels. Sachiel (far right) is the 3rd Angel and the first Angel we encounter in NGE. Israfel is the 7th Angel and was the first instance in which multiple Eva units were sorted into battle. Paul also depicts Eva Unit-02 in 'Beast Mode' as controlled by Mari in the rebuild movies. There is even a bonus Pope designed Evangelion!
Just blown away at the work Paul did here. Being able to combine my favorite artists with my favorite subjects is one of the absolute joys of commissions for me. Wonderful staging to emphasize the scale and intensity of the battle, puts this right up at the top of my favorite commissions.
Much thanks again to Paul and Felix for making this happen in a spectacular way.- ESeffinga, PixelPusher, Pete Marino and 3 others

I'm honored that among the many pieces of your already impressive collection, you specify the Batman Hush piece Jim and I did as a current favorite. I mentioned on your CAF comments section that it's actually a favorite of mine as well (especially since I'm a typical artist in that I see every flaw first and foremost in our own work). Jim also mentioned to me that he thinks it's the best thing I've ever done over him so I take great pride in that. Congrats on entering this rewarding hobby with such a bang, and condolences to your bank account.
Thank you Scott! I apologize for not mentioning you during the interview, and it's something that once it's over, one says "Doh! I forgot to say this or that." I adore the piece and I get lost appreciating your inking wizardry everytime I take it out.
11 hours ago, ESeffinga said:And Jason, apologies if we sound like we are talking around/about you. I'm super glad you are here, and hope you chip in when you can. It can be hard to define for someone else why we like what we like. And when a collection isn't quite what everyone else is into, it can compound that awkward explanation. Not that it needs to be explained away of course. But it can be super enlightening to read (or hear on a podcast) someone else explain how they feel about their collection, and their methodologies/rationalizations/ and approach for adding to it.
The more that "different" collections enter the market, the more interesting I think it makes art collecting. It's less fun to me, when so many folks are into so many of the same things. And I'm always learning, and finding new things to appreciate. It never goes away.
No apologies necessary! Helpful to see some outside observations of my tendencies and helps to get me thinking more about my collection, the individual pieces in it, and the personally meaning for each. Thanks!

Seems like the way back art that he looks to from “before his time” is that of the 80s. It is true that one man, is not an indicator of a future, but it is collectors like this I’d pay attention to, if I was sitting on a raft of older works.
Thank you for the kind words Dino and Brian! I think the point above is very valid. Although I'd love to have an example from each of the above mentioned artists, with prices being where they are for quality pieces they've just fallen lower on my priority list.
As far as art and historic appreciation, I am more likely to skip the 60s/70s Marvel stuff for the time being and buy EC pieces or even classic strip pieces from Foster/Raymond/etc. Just from a value perspective, I think pieces from these eras currently feel more worthwhile to me at this time.
Does that mean, I'll never get to Kirby/Ditko/Romita? I think I will but I'm willing to wait until I've satisfied a lot of my other itches and/or wait for a deal I can't say no to.
I really appreciate @Nexus having me on and I'm glad I didn't put all of you to sleep. Always down to talk art and collecting so feel free to message me and if you live in the Bay Area, grab some coffee or lunch.
