    This is a bizarre reaction. Lmao. If you're a big fan that wants a commission badly, why would not getting one cause you to sell off everything you own by the artist you're a fan of???

  3. Wholeheartedly agree. I've been hounding Rolex, Rolls Royce, The Louvre and Musee D'Orsay about this exact thing for while! I'm a true fan of those items and they should really start some sort of program to get these goods to a few of us. All I want is a nice submariner and a Van Gogh or Monet. 

    Funny how being an institution shields you from these judgements that are cavalierly thrown at individual artists. If you do this, you are a high "character" individual, if not, scumbag. Many artists do a ton of high quality free things for fans, already. As far as personal commissions or published pages, all these things are attainable just not instantly for all.

    Off topic, but does anyone have any insight on this? Someone clearly wants this badly, but to go from selling for 3600 in 2018 all the way up to a 75k offer now is pretty stunning and certainly doesn't happen, well, pretty much ever. I also tend to think that these rare instances of over the top offers are probably legit because if you were trying to entice someone to make high offers using the make an offer system, you'd never go this high for fear of scaring everyone away. The dates of the offers (3 days windows which is hte expiry period) suggest someone not getting any replies and trying to force the owner to take notice. Check your emails if you bought a Steve Rude around 2018 lol. Sold for 3600 and then offers were:

    $75,000 on January 25, 2021
    $50,000 on January 25, 2021
    $40,000 on January 23, 2021
    $40,000 on January 16, 2021
    $12,000 on June 11, 2020
    $12,000 on June 6, 2020

    My opinion but I think it's acceptable to try and keep OA as close to the original condition/look as possible so in the case of your image, there was clearly text pasted on to create the word balloons. As long as you aren't changing the original image or adding word balloons that weren't ever there, it's acceptable, to me, to try and maintain as much fidelity with the original piece for the sake of conservation.

  7. Disagree re: friend+family. As a buyer, I've encountered no issues and am generally way less concerned about a seller coming through. Obviously, cannot apply to all cases, but I am able to look at a seller's gallery and at get a minimal idea of whether they've transacted with others. The risk to an established seller or collector reputation for not coming through on a sale is high. As a seller, I'm more concerned with a buyer potentially reversing a transaction. This is more the case with buyers with possibly new accounts or less art in their gallery. So what are the options? Either do not sell to anyone new without a larger gallery presence or protect yourself with friends+family or check/wire.

    I'm of the belief that there is an influx of new participants in the hobby. Many with recent CAF accounts, and little to no art that his shared. These are cases where it's reasonable for them to have to prove it and establish some sort of social credit. I'd love to get an idea of buyers that have been screwed when buying with friends+family vs. sellers getting screwed with reversed charges on good/services.

    Thank you Scott! I apologize for not mentioning you during the interview, and it's something that once it's over, one says "Doh! I forgot to say this or that." I adore the piece and I get lost appreciating your inking wizardry everytime I take it out.

    The more that "different" collections enter the market, the more interesting I think it makes art collecting. It's less fun to me, when so many folks are into so many of the same things. And I'm always learning, and finding new things to appreciate. It never goes away.

    No apologies necessary! Helpful to see some outside observations of my tendencies and helps to get me thinking more about my collection, the individual pieces in it, and the personally meaning for each. Thanks!
