  1. I think I like this most of the recent postings. It's a beauty! That's Kelly, right? Not noted in Overstreet. This one deserves a favorite GA cover nomination. (When's the deadline?) Is Snow White a superhero, or is she like Phantom Lady? Those little guys are a team of mutants, right? Jack Quail at the might of the awesome Super-Sneeze!!
  2. Your Strange Adventures 125 is better than "usual suspect" -- very nice SA DC flying gorilla cover! GCD says Sid Greene, which looks right to me. The two Murphy Anderson flying gorilla Hawkman covers are big favorites too. I can imagine going after those in high grade. Jack (your thumbnails are tough to quote!)
  3. Awesome book Cioric. Congrats!!!!!!! So whats next now that you have a book like that?? Thanks MK! What's next?? Financial recovery!! Before or after the reconstructive surgery? Jack
  4. Wow -- you have a high-grade set of early SA Flash? Very nice! Infantino was really firing on all cylinders at the beginning of that run, trying out ideas that later became such clichés that we hardly notice them. Great stuff! I consider myself lucky to have one of the Showcase issues. (Mr Element, of course.) Jack
  5. Unusual choice. Most men offer their left one for a 'Tec 27. Jack That was for the Cap 1...... Maintains the symmetry -- in your collection too. Jack (otherwise it'd be hard to fit pants)
  6. Unusual choice. Most men offer their left one for a 'Tec 27. Jack
  7. Jack, go to the CGC Census. Plug in the title and issue of your book and voila, you can see the CGC population for your book! A quick check of the Census confirms that your book is indeed the highest graded copy currently. Thanks! Makes me feel like I should thump my chest or something. Hey, I have one of 5 tied for 2nd place Marvel Spotlight too. AAA-OOOOO-AAWWWWW!! Jack
  8. I'm not sure how Big Apple got pedigree status, since most of the books I have seen are not high grade books. Not from me! Jack
  9. Yep, George Meyerriecks. He also did the painted covers to Strange Terrors 3 and 5. Thanks! Great, moody covers. Was he a pulp artist? Now that I see the name, I remember previous mentions. Jack
  10. Ask October. He went through a "this guy" period. He'd know. Thanks. He reads this subject, right? Jack
  11. Nice Jack! Thanks. First time I've drawn one of those. Almost didn't recognize me posting slabs, you mean! Maybe I'll switch back to a more striking one, but this short-bus alien with a wrench cracks me up. Thanks again. I figured that it wasn't complicated. These #$%^& slabbed books aren't very satisfying, are they? I might as well just file the label, let CGC store the book for me and go find a reader copy! Jack
  12. It's OK to post a scan in general and in the appropriate specialized topic, right? SLAB-MANIA continues! My Greatest Adventure 57. Highest CGC-graded copy according to the seller. I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm not sure how to check. I also feel silly scanning these labels. And the book. I should be pimping my own book more strongly, but I'm surprised that much edge tannning and dust shadow earns VF-. The scratch starting above A in Greatest is on the slab. Dillin Moldoff cover according to GCD. Jack
  13. SLAB-MANIA continues! Here's the other one, My Greatest Adventure 57. Highest CGC-graded copy according to the seller. I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm not sure how to check. I feel silly scanning these labels. And the book. I should be pimping my own book more strongly, but I'm surprised that much edge tannning and dust shadow earns VF-. The scratch starting above A in Greatest is on the slab. Dillin Moldoff cover according to GCD. Jack
  14. SLAB-MANIA! Strange Terrors 2. Not just a slab, but a pedigree! The grade is pulled down by some staple rust. Lots of slab schmutz, especially on the red curtain. This is the first time I've scanned a slab. What's better if it doesn't fit in the scanner bed? Tilt it with one end against the glass or uniformly distant from the glass? Very unusual cover! The signature is cut off. C. Meyerblecks? Something like that. Someone here probably knows. Jack
  15. Yes, it's SLAB-MANIA! I don't usually buy slabs, but I couldn't resist these ebay wins. First, Strange Terrors 2. Not just a slab, but a pedigree! The grade is pulled down by some staple rust. Scanning the label -- HAW! The book. I'll ask at the GA forum. Jack
  16. What's the gag? He's trying to cook the hot dog over his foot? He's warming it in the sun? He's comparing it with his foot? He's admiring it? He's eating it politely with his pinky extended? He's just plain goofy? Jack humor impaired
  17. What a hilarious cover! I'm sure glad that the apostrophe-challenged mad scientist didn't use the president's brain (although it seems suspiciously large to me). Any votes on what "...ifes brain" is? Jack
  18. What a catch! Apparently Duckburg has better flea markets than we have around here. Jack
  19. Wow! Are you circling back to fill in holes with new acquisitions? Great stuff! Jack
  20. The eyes on that front Hardy Boy make it clear what they're keeping Secret at the Old Mill. Jack
  21. Not sure I see it the same as you. Basically the beast is in the foreground and the guy is maybe 10 feet behind him and then the drawing makes sense. Your mileage may vary. In that case, the beastie is only about as big as a small dog? And that's an arrow- rather than spear-sized tip? And the beastie is looking at some undefined point between himself and the viewer, not at Mr Spaceman? I don't know why, but I just can't make it work. Maybe because I have no art training. Jack
  22. Another bizarre perspective special, isn't it? Mr Spaceman is throwing a spear from slightly behind himself at a dragon that's looking at the back of his head -- yet the dragon's foot is in front of the spaceman's leg! My brain hurts. Jack
  23. Why look who showed up to fix the Short Bus! Isn't this one of Max's buddies from "Where the Wild Things Are"? Jack
  24. Hot cha! I just won this "missed it by THAT much" book, Showcase 3. I really like early Showcases, so I has happy to get it at a reasonable price. Seller graded it as GOOD/VERYGOOD 3.0, and I trust his conservative grading. Seller's scan: Jack
  25. It's worse than being A Boy Named Sue, isn't it? That Spurt's story was about dastardly calcium thieves who somehow transported the goods between planets via some sort of ray was a big plus! I was hoping to jump into the discussion, but I knew that I couldn't make the Sunday deadline. Great idea to spur(t) discussion! Jack
