  1. Heck, I'd pay TWO bucks for 6 long boxes of Bronze Age goodies. Jack
  2. Yet another VCC package, Brinks truck packaging again. A great batch of 10 comics and 2 books from 143ksk. I'm especially pleased with the 3 Animal Comics. Thanks, Jack
  3. Another VCC purchase received. Four lovely X-Men from CW/Fantastic Comics. SERIOUSLY tight grading -- almost certainly the nicest "fine 5.5" I've ever seen. Brinks truck packaging. Thanks! Jack
  4. That Human To... uh, Firefly is quite a hero, isn't he? Does anyone know whether EC took any flak, or was the character too short-lived? Jack
  5. Ho-o-o-o-o-ly Fudd! What a great copy of a great book! Mine is so delicate that I can barely handle it. There can't be many better ones around. The Fairy Tale Parade ad in the next post is also wonderful. Thanks! Jack
  6. I love the simplicity of the pch headshot covers. Do you know who did the cover for the Adventure into Darkness? Kind of an awkwardly drawn cover imho. Maybe Art Saaf. Don't quote me. Recently deceased (Friday?) -- did anyone post that sad news here? Jack
  7. Thanks to pirate for dropping off my VCC purchases at a local shop. Fantastic Four 15, 16, 18 (rough) and more! Jack
  8. OK, they'll be coming up in the next week or two. I've already pulled a couple of real nice ones. For some reason (I must be tired), putting it that way makes me think of the film of Phil Levine touring his warehouses. Picturing Bangzoom wandering through his comics saying, "You want Walt Kellys? Yeah, I'll pull some Kellys. Early Detectives? Sure. How about PRE-NATIONALS? I got piles of PRE-NATIONALS..." -- the idea makes me chuckle. Jack
  9. Alright, Canon edited in my original post Mr. Nitpick. Much better heheh. Sorry -- I know it was rude, but I couldn't resist. Aha. That's exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks! Our public library doesn't have it. Shocking! HAW! Good one. Jack
  10. Yes and No. It's not from the Cannon, Comme ça? Oh, of course. "Episode 6 Bis, The Vigilante of Pizzen Bluff" (I don't know what the #$%^ that means because I've never read any of it. I should remedy that soon. Don Rosa is a U of KY graduate who lives right down the road in Louisville. We've actually corresponded with him about our Periodic Table of Comic Books project.) Jack
  11. QUACK! Channeled is putting it mildly. Is this from "Life and Times of S McD?" Jack
  12. ... Btw., when you first started posting those Dell Funnies, I really felt like that would be a cool, overlooked title to collect. That all changed when you got to the Phantasmo covers... Phantasmo was one of the high point of the tour -- some bizarre covers. More off-the-beaten-track stuff that we probably haven't seen, please, although I'm enjoying your potpourri just fine. I also enjoy knowing dates and any other information you (or others) can fill in about the books. Keep 'em flyin'! Thanks! Jack Yeah, Jack is right. Let's go for some really obscure items like.... Detective 27 or Flash 1? You might as well, BZ. Bill's never seen either of them. Jack

  14. Wow. Never seen that one. I am not surprised it's a tough one to find. Monte, have you found / observed that the late run FCs can be tough to find? What's your experience? Fading popularity and poor distribution above about 1300, right? Lots of Gerber 5-7. I have very few above about 1280, and they're mostly damaged (logo stripped). I couldn't reply until now since I was banned and I was glad to already have a copy of that FC since I couldn't bid! Scrooge sitting in the corner with Dennis the Menace! I wish I had a FC 142! It's not a cartoon adaptation, is it? Thanks for the info. Is any of it in GCD? If you didn't send it, I'll do it. I know that "Alberto's FC index is coming" but who knows when? Jack
  15. First VCC package has arrived. Wonderful reader lot! From Mikeyriffhard: a big pile of rough (exactly as described) Atlas/pre-hero Marvel readers, a few nicer books like Daredevil 158, and a bonus Superman Annual 1 (coverless). Great packing, fast shipping. Thanks! Jack
  16. I 2nd that... I come to look at people's books and I catch another fine episode of Jerry Springer in this thread... I don't see it because IGNORE THIS USER works great! If people would stop quoting the hissyfits, life would be even better. Jack
  17. The ultimate lame-o big-head villain -- Egg Fu! If only the cover were purple. Jack
  18. My Gawd, Bangzoom.......what's he wearing?!?.......a shower curtain??? Naw, shower curtains are usually at least translucent! More like Christmas ribbon and Saran Wrap. I've seen this character's covers before but never quite believed them. Like ciorac, I have to wonder whether he always faces away from the reader inside the book too. He's definitely got to be fastidious about personal hygiene when he's on the job. Apparently his red cloak has some invisibility shtick. See how his left leg is partially transparent? PS Check out #46 from GCD Does it remind anyone else of the peekaboo scene from Austin Powers? Jack (At least there's a hint of some yellow skivvies)
  19. Slightly OT. Considering your logo, you'll probably get a chuckle out of this cover. Apologies if it's old stuff to some of you -- it's new to me. Jack From somethingawful: Eye cover
  20. No 394 yet? Here's my meager contribution. Nothing like the beautiful 9+ copies we usually see, but newly arrived, structurally very sound with off-white or better pages, on the sunny side of VG. Jack
  21. Yeah...I'm looking forward to reading that one... When you do, try to remember to let us know whether the story seems to take place in India or Africa. Originally set in India, it apparently migrated at some point to Africa, where there are no tigers. Jack
  22. Very nice!! Did Gruelle do the artwork on the whole series, including Four Color books? Did he ink as well? Maybe he's even the mystery letterer that I was wondering about in the Four Color thread. Does this have elegant, almost italic lettering sort of like Eisner sometimes used on The Spirit? Those wallpaper cover backgrounds are really eye-catching. Pity scrooge isn't here to appreciate this one. I hope he comes back and catches up. Jack
  23. HAW! Funny for Superboy's gun to "discharge" on Brainiac 5 with all those "exotic dancer" types hanging around. DEC = Cockrum? Jack
  24. Beautiful copy. Do you get the feeling that Curt Swan found this a very funny cover? Amusing details: Superman's facial expression, pill-box hats on all the ladies, Jimmy's goofy body language with one flipper draped over the other. I'm enjoying your display of the cover run. This is another series that I'm trying to collect a run of reader copies, but some of the early issues are just too hard to find (or pricey) in any condition. I'm glad that DC put out a "millennium reprint" of #1. Often I wish that they and Marvel would publish a "Great #2s" series -- the first issues of many titles tend to be reprinted ad nauseum, but seconds are impossible to find in any form. Jack
