  1. This one's been posted, but not my copy! I'll try to concentrate on covers that haven't been posted yet, but this is the earliest in the batch I just got, second oldest that I own, and I'm pumped about it. (Yes, it's already on the funny animal thread.) Four Color 21, Oswald the Rabbit. First solo cover, as far as I know. Certainly his first Four Color. Look at those curly ears! GCD credits Dan Gormley ? (Pencils) Dan Gormley ? (Inks) ?, not a name I'm very familiar with. Jack
  2. I hope everyone is prepared for an onslaught of cute bunnies! Four Color 21, Oswald the Rabbit. First solo cover, as far as I know. Certainly his first Four Color. Look at those curly ears! GCD credits Dan Gormley ? (Pencils) Dan Gormley ? (Inks) ?, not a name I'm very familiar with. Jack
  3. Some very odd physics in the Woodyverse! Is that actually Woody or one of the kids (nephews?)? He looks young here. Jack
  4. I was thinking the same thing Me 3! It must have been intentional. Jimmy Janes (signed) (Pencils) Bob Smith (signed) (Inks) Who are they? Did they work for Marvel earlier? Jack
  5. Good thinking... that is very easy to believe. Mid-1947 is just a year before S&S's ten-year contract with DC would be up, and their disputes over Superboy had probably picked up steam already. Wouldn't it be funny if the letter was planted by Siegel or Shuster? I wonder why the editor chose to print it. Jack
  6. I don't know. I have #8 because of the Virgil Finley story (one of only two comic stories he drew) but not the #9. No Siegel and Shuster story in #9 according to GCD. Maybe DC's lawyers advised against it. Not in 10 or 11 either. But there is this letter: *No title given or indexed* (Sequence 9 - Letters , 1 page ) Feature Story: You Tell Us! Credits: Jerry Bails [as Jerry Baik]; others (-script), Synopsis: Jerry's letter asks for bios of the creators of the Justice Society of America. and this feature (the other one you were referring to? GCD says he's in 10 and 11 too) If The Moon Fell (Sequence 4 - Story , 2 pages ) Feature Story: Just Imagine Credits: Jack Schiff; Mort Weisinger; Bernie Breslauer (-script), Virgil Finlay (Pencils), Virgil Finlay (Inks), ? (Colors), ? (Letters). Jack
  7. My two favorite funny animal covers from a big box o' fun from Scrooge. Four Color 894 Silly Tunes 4 Jack
  8. I don't think this one has been shown. Four Color 893, Jim Bowie Thanks to Scrooge! Jack
  9. If he wore the fishnets like Zatanna, would he be a costumed superhero? Jack or what?
  10. That's a fun one -- I like the melodramatic pose. Jack
  11. More dime books. Zee first two Mlle. Marie appearances. Showcase 28 Jack
  12. Ooh la la! Zee first two Mlle. Marie appearances. Zee ree-dair copiez. Jack
  13. Holy #$%^&*, Fay, save some for the rest of us! Jack
  14. What the heck -- they're dime covers so I'll post them here too. The Flash 108, 111, 114, 120. 126 is in the 12¢ thread. Thanks to Seadevils! Jack
  15. A big jump toward completing a Flash set! The Flash 108, 111, 114, 120, 126. No eye-popping high grades, but I'm glad to get these early issues at all. Almost there! Lacking only 105, 106, 110, 113, 122-124 and 346 (Why 346? I don't know.) I even have Showcase 13. I may have to be satisfied with reprints of the other Showcase issues, 105 and 123, but it's fun to be a few steps closer. Jack Thanks to Seadevils, who sold these to me at the last VCC. You may recognize the background of his photos. Highly recommended seller!
  16. Looks suspiciously like ciorac's "Pat K pedigree" copy -- great catch! Even an element cover. Those Pat K's will be widely disseminated soon. Jack
  17. Nice! The nephews hadn't quite gotten their modern look yet, had they? Or is that because I'm not used to how Carl Buettner drew them? Jack
  18. I think it was Babe the Blue Ox, not Babe AND the Blue Ox. Spectacular batch! What a lunch. I gotta find that restaurant. Jack
  19. Wow! All terrific, but these two have lots of fans around here. Jack
  20. Dumbo counts. Peter Pan doesn't. How about Comet the Super-Horse ? Krypto the Superdog ? Streaky the Supercat ? Sure, they count, but they have to stomp their hoof (paw) to tell you how high they've counted. Jack Proty?
  21. That #1008 looks like a Dr. Seuss Road Runner cover. In one post you pegged 2 of Ellens favorite cartoon shows. I think you better watch out if you come to Chicago this year, she just might whack you on the knee and take your funny books. I'll wear my shin guards (thumbs u FOILED! I was thinking of trying that if I ever got to Chicago. Now I'd have to try a sharp blow to the snout. Jack
  22. Snout bondage! I wouldn't worry about these though. Seems more like snouts at play than snout abuse. There's a fine line. Jack
  23. Yes, Virginia, your little friends are wrong... Jack *SNIF*
  24. all 4 I don't have right now... That's because Scrooge has them. Duh! Jack
  25. Very nice -- what number? I bet it has my gal, Mary Jane, in it. Jack It's # 125 and, yes, there is a 5 page MJ&S story inside. Oh I have #125. MJ&S were still pretty good in 1952, but some of the stories in the 1940s were great! Jack
