  1. Twenty bucks? Incredibly nice for the price! You don't suppose it belonged to THIS Nancy? Jack
  2. Donald seems a lot happier than Ralphie though! Donald is always happier when those sadists lay off his beak for a month. Jack
  3. That would be a great cover if they hadn't plastered all those #$%^& text boxes all over it. Bad editor! Jack
  4. Bizarre cover! Donald reminds me of Ralphie in his new 'jammies! Funny bird-on-bird violence too, kind of like the Thanksgiving dinner covers. Jack at least Donald's beak escaped unscathed
  5. I'm so glad someone bumped this thread. WOW, great stuff. I've turned into a huge fan of Raggedy Ann and Andy comics. I hope that you've looked inside. The stories are a cut above most Golden (to "Atomic") Age stories. Almost surreal with great artwork. Congrats on the set. How many are missing? Jack I've got a 3 waiting for me when I get home which leaves missing 8 (mostly late issues) from this run. I have a top census Dell Giant copy and I don't have any of the Four Color issues of Raggedy yet which I'm always actively looking for. Fantastic! My FC 533 and Dell Giant (the Feb 1955 one?) live up to the description Raggedy. The Dell Giant was a mind-boggling 50¢ buy but the FC set me back a full dollar. Not a single issue of the series unfortunately. Not in your league! Jack
  6. Well, the cause is already getting a lot of celebrity support. Elvis Costello has provided a song for our big fundraiser: "What's so funny 'bout beak love and understanding?" He's trying to recruit Sheryl Crow to sing it as a duet. Jack the Byrds reunion is just a rumor
  7. Nice books! Uh-oh. Yet another insidious example of Beak Abuse. On display here in its most gruesome and advanced form: Jack Pronoun trouble!

  9. I have a set of these -- even beaters of Four Color 105 and 148 -- and love 'em! Your copies look like they put mine to shame though. Jack
  10. Great display! The Littlest Snowman CREEPED ME OUT when I was a kid. Anyone else remember this macabre Christmas story? Little Snowman sound link Pathos, rejection, tragedy, helplessness, a friend melting... Just the thing for a cheery holiday. Is Captain Kangaroo reciting it here (I think so), or was it just a feature on his show? I think we had the record on colored vinyl (yellow or red?), but I can't find a picture of the jacket on line. Ooops, you were trying to counteract the gruesomeness. Carry on. Jack
  11. I give it another week and Mr. Duck Avarice here will have a copy in his collection Mr. Duck Avarice! I am drunk as hell and covered in Mardi Gras Make up, I can't comment now, but will in the morning. Jack... You kill me... You must be drunk if you are confusing Jack and I ? Once he's sober, he should have no trouble telling the smart one from the good-looking one. Jack the skinny one should be easy
  12. So, on this book from .5, is this Beak Bondage? Should someone email CGC and ask them to put this on any future notes? EXACTLY, but I was thinking Overstreet notes. Bondage cover, injury to the eye motif, beak abuse, lingerie panels... See, it fits right in. Who's got Bob Overstreet's ear? Jack I laughed out loud at that one Jack Thanks! Everytime I read beak abuse cover in future iterations of the guide I will chuckle. I'll include it with my report to Bob for next years' guide. Make me a comprehensive list will you? Yes, that's got to be my favorite post ever in the Duck thread . Of course, for ducks it should be Bill Abuse, but I didn't want to alarm ciorac. Besides, I'm concerned for the welfare of the beaks of all of our feathered friends -- eaglelitarian, you might say. Jack or you might not

Everytime I read beak abuse cover in future iterations of the guide I will chuckle. I'll include it with my report to Bob for next years' guide. Make me a comprehensive list will you? Hey, I'm not the one with the massive duck collection. Matthew, prepare a memo for ciorac at your earliest convenience. I think it should be the topic of the Friday night seminar at the next Pons Con. "Beak Abuse: The Straw That Triggered Wertham's Wrath?" Jack
  14. While we're looking at Mad imitators, I just won this one but don't have it in hand yet. Riot 3, 8/54. Maneely cover! Atlas Tales tells me to expect [DeCarlo] /[Lapick] Post [Hartley] inside. Jack

  16. I was thinking about that question after I posted my "me too!" Not to get too pompous about it, but I read somewhere about the seven dwarfs as archetypical personalities -- I think that's part of what makes the dwarf covers so good. Whenever Kelly drew them, he really made the personalities sparkle! (This is a Kelly cover, right?) Just take a look at Four Color 49 -- another gem! (Buettner didn't do so badly either on FC 19.) Dopey almost always ends up in the spotlight because he's so wonderfully child-like, and after all they were selling these books to kids at the time. Do you have a primo copy of WDCS 43 yet? Another gem featuring Dopey. Jack
  17. Same here -- the more I see it, the more I like it. Is it an especially hot (and by that I mean expensive) issue? Jack
  18. Was wondering who picked that book up...I was going to bid. Yep me too. I got home late from work and missed out! What the heck is she wearing and where do i get one? For my wife I mean. Would she go along with the hairy armpits too? Jack
  19. And a nice person will probably buy it. Not if I buy it first! oh oh, I fear my max bid might not be enough Bid NICE, guys. Jack same fear here but more likely right
  20. And a nice person will probably buy it. You may have noticed that I'm a bottom feeder -- the Heritage buyer's premium alone would probably scare me off! But thanks for the pointer. Jack
  21. That one takes a back seat to no comic! One of the best covers, ever, period, IMHO. Very nice. Didn't ciorac sell a modestly priced copy last year? I remember passing it by then regretting it. Who got it? (Is Bill on this thread?) Jack I am indeed following this thread. I sold three copies last year, but have agreed to purchase a beauty from Billy Parker over the next few weeks. I've been searching for the right copy for years now and Billy's is the RIGHT copy THREE copies!?!?! I only remember one late in the year when I was buying some other books from you. Did a boardie get that one? I'm too easily satisfied -- the RIGHT copy is the one I own, so I guess I'm searching for the right copy like you are. Jack
