  1. Very interesting! Pointy-eared cowl, scalloped cape (sort of), but I've never seen SHJ cited as a Batman precursor or prototype. Have you? Jack
  2. Yet it's such a bizarre idea, contrary to everyone's common experience. Except for glazed brick, which is rarely if ever used on skyscrapers, who's ever seen a suction cup stick to a brick building? But people fly and run at the speed of light. Why should I let a suction cup get in the way of my suspension of disbelief? The author gets extra points for "Something squdged" though. Jack
  3. Lovely, lovely! Walt Kelly cover and old-school Bugs! How's the Mary Jane and Sniffles story? Often my favorite LTMM feature. Jack
  4. OK, here's the Fox and Crow with the next number. Jack
  5. OK -- I think I won't have it until after the end of May because I'll probably pick it up in person. Remind me. Jack
  6. Don't let the Funny Animal thread die! Everybody close their eyes and wish real hard! Not in my hands yet -- Fawcett;s Funny Animals 35. An ebay win for a nice price. Funny animal superhero books crack me up. Jack
  7. So, Chesler experts (a.k.a. Jon and Billy), how tough / easy is Riggin Bill to find and, mainly, where is it listed in the Guide? More of a gag book than a comic book, right? I don't think I ever found First Class Male in the guide. I wish I had a scan of Yankee Comics 4, another digest-sized book. While I'm at it, did I ever post Red Seal Comics 21 here? (Sorry, glare in the seller's scan. Slabbed!) Jack
  8. I took my 10 year old nephew around to several dealers at the 2008 SD Con and he couldn't have received a friendlier or more respectful experience that he did with Bunky Brian, Joe Veranault, Richie Evans, Mike Goldman and others. How much did you end up getting for him? Jack He got about $25 worth of free stuff!! Ohhhh --- and I thought you were offering him in trade! Jack
  9. Nice buys! I tell ya, Amazing Adventures 5 is on fire lately! Forget about Action Comics 1. Jack
  10. I took my 10 year old nephew around to several dealers at the 2008 SD Con and he couldn't have received a friendlier or more respectful experience that he did with Bunky Brian, Joe Veranault, Richie Evans, Mike Goldman and others. How much did you end up getting for him? Jack
  11. Two great buys plus some ebay books from ciorac. A bunch of board and ebay books shipped together from skypinkblu. Some nice early Silver Age books from Seadevils (board purchase but not from a For Sale thread). Thanks to all three sellers! Jack
  12. Yours is a lot nicer but still not exactly a prize-winner. I wonder if this issue is tough is higher grade. Nice of the news stand owner to label it with "The Month" date for you but too bad about the other scribbles. I think the Pat K books (from ciorac) included a lot of Month books. What are you still hunting? Jack
  13. My fav is the Amazing! That's because you're scared of the Wasp Women and the Amazon Women! Certainly the nicest grade of the three -- the middle guy's grimace, his pal's pointy bra and those goony aliens all crack me up! Thanks, Jack
  14. THANKS for the comments, info, advice and checklist. Jack
  15. A great batch of books from ciorac, some board sales, some ebay! Three of my favorite covers: Space Detective 4 -- love those Wasp Women! Great black and white "contents" page by Gene Fawcette inside the front cover. Do you think that he drew the cover? Amazing Adventures 5 with a classic Ziff-Davis painted cover -- but who painted it? Could it be Murphy Anderson, who drew the first story? Al Anderson? Space Busters 1. Yes, I know, it's too beat up to show off, but who can resist a Space Amazons painted cover by Norm Saunders?
  16. OS 38 says g 113 vg 226 fn 339 vf 904 vfnm 1577 nm- 2250 Jack
  17. Color touch! Bondage cover too. Great copy of a great book that I've never heard of. OS price is over the top but probably realistic given the scarcity and chances of finding one in nice condition. It looks like there was a partial reprint (68 out of 212 pages) in 1991. Anyone have one to compare? Jack
  18. Wow, I've never seen this strip! Mac sure looks a lot like Tom Swift Jr. Nice use of Zip-a-Tone (sp?), blacks and some kind of photo process (? -- the bomb panel). Jack
  19. Otto Feuer did almost all of the Raccoon Kids, didn't he? Jack
  20. What a great cover! Will you get tired of hearing, "I've never seen that one." Is there any hope of doing artist IDs on this thread? Maybe this is Mike Sekowsky (really), Helen King (I know next to nothing about), and Vince Fago could have had a hand in it. "Come on.... let's see some non-DC stuff." sounds great to me! Jack
  21. The subject line wasn't enough to tip you off? Seriously, I'm glad that you found your way here and I'm looking forward to seeing your funny animal books. This might be the only thread that I have time to catch up on after a week away. The volume of the others is overwhelming. Take it away, Seadevils! Jack
  22. Does this help? I still don't know the secret. Good story tho. bb I suspect that a young fan liked Cynde's "peekaboo window" dress. Jack
  23. Once of those titles that I feel kind of guilty paying actual money for. Surprisingly popular, featured 17 times in the Four Color series. The movies were a big enough hit to sell comics, apparently. Here's my favorite of the set -- not my scan. Mine are much lower grade. Jack
  24. not likely. Talk to the hand. :: I'm younger and will outlast..... I gotta say, unless you are 12, I think Parket will outlive us all! hell, i'd love to meet him and find out his secret; can you introduce me? . maybe or Jack chicken or shrimp?
  25. Very impressive! Jack But where's Weird Tales of the Future 8?
