  1. I'd be drooling too if I had that view..... I'd be drooling too if I had octopus tentacle arms with elephant trunk tips! Joe D®oolin! Jack
  2. Fabulous! I really shouldn't look at this duck thread -- my want list is long enough without adding WDSC books. Jack
  3. I think that's it.... It'd be funnier with some beak abuse. Jack His new fetish Me an' my pal, Doc Wertham Jack Alfredo!
  4. That was a pretty good guess, wasn't it? Love them radium-proof cloaks and gloves, not to mention how everyone conveniently carries around bondage chains in Golden Age Wonder Woman stories. Thanks! Jack I HAD a low grade one of that issue, a really low grade one (with covers and everything) but SOMEONE hide it;) NOT ME! Blame the cat. I hope so Thanks, Jack Radium-proof accessorizing
  5. I think that's it.... It'd be funnier with some beak abuse. Jack
  6. That was a pretty good guess, wasn't it? Love them radium-proof cloaks and gloves, not to mention how everyone conveniently carries around bondage chains in Golden Age Wonder Woman stories. Thanks! Jack
  7. WHO? WHO? Only if the book isn't too fragile to smack down on the scanner. Reprints come in handy for scans except when the art is too close to the spine. If I'm right about Radium Giants, let me know. I suspect that cover-to-cover scanned issues are out there somewhere. Thanks, Jack
  8. That's the story about the Radium Giants, right? (Secret of the Limestone Caves) On my element want list, but suspect that I'll have to be satisfied with a reprint. Nice copy, nice cover! Jack
  9. This post just caught my eye. Those two splashes are identical to the first and second stories in Frisky Fables 4, Sep 1948, which I just bought a few days ago. (A beater copy) I wonder whether the whole book is cover-to-cover reprint. What's the date of this Holiday Comics issue? Jack
  10. one of my favorite MF covers! Somehow it's funnier if you think of that comment as a euphemism -- but then could gator still be The Man? Jack
  11. Congratulations on successfully posting your first image. That's a very cool comic to own. I noticed that the original owner is one Erasmus Grier Fowler. ... AND HE WANTS IT BACK! Jack
  12. Thanks! He has a very recognizable style, doesn't he? The old guy standing on the cannon seems like a character I've seen many times with no idea who drew him. Starry Eyes looks like a huge influence on manga and modern "girlie books", unless Calpini also borrowed the style from another source. Rats -- I have Alter Ego 46 but not 47. Jack
  13. Beak abuse theme! Great stuff. Jack
  14. Ottenheimer, I posted earlier this week or last - See sign at the bottom - Calpini I know b/c he was part of the Unknown Greats series of articles by Hames Ware and Jim Vadeboncoeur, Jr. in Alter Ego. AHA! Fun cartoony Ottenheimer style. I have some Alter Egos but they're almost unread. Is Unknown Greats still an ongoing series? Jack
  15. These are the only ones I recognize ... Calpini is a blank for me. I know I've seen OTTENHEIMER but no idea where. Of course I know Post, but didn't realize that he had anything to do with JCA. Jack
  16. ... Frisky Fables Vol. 4 No. 4, Sep-48. .... Obviously it's a total dishrag, but since it was dirt cheap and complete I couldn't resist the Al Fago artwork. ... Great cover I never noticed the almost washtone quality of it before. I do not think JCA art is actually drawn by Fago, But I do think he helmed the group, and a lot of it is done in his vague style. I wish we knew more about that group. Thanks for the comment. Nice personnel list at Jerry's Who's Who, although most of the names are total ciphers to me. Do you recognize any of them? 17. WOO HOO! That's a great catch on a tough Four Color. Jack
  18. Fabulous! I agree about the covers -- do you think this one is a team effort with Peters on Man o' Metal and Everett on Hydro-Man? Not as gooped up with captions and logos as some GA covers -- at least they're out of the way. One of the few Golden Age sets that I'd consider chasing. Far enough off most collectors' radar that the prices aren't too crazy. (OK, maybe I'd wait and buy each issue after ciorac has it -- working on a full run or just selected issues?) Jack jack, a couple are hard; i've had one hole missing in the 1-15 run for a LONG time now, and never a sniff at it. So much for that half-baked idea. Billy P can't find one = no way in the world I could accumulate a set. What's the tough one, or would you rather not draw attention to it? Jack #10, right there in my sig line. and, by the way, why aren't you intimately familiar with my sig line so as to be out there on the front lines, hunting for books i need??? I turned off sig lines because some of them were so embarrassing that I didn't want anyone to see them on my monitor. Good hunting! Thanks, Jack
  19. You know those are CUTE, if you keep this up, Jack, you'd better watch out, they may become fasionable again...after all, the genre is called COMIC books;) ... Huh? "...become fashionable again" You mean they're NOT? Jack cute as Peter Porkchops
  20. Are you saying the cover is Al Fago or some story inside? It's not quite possible to ID anything signed by the Jason Comic Artist studio, is it? The cover is Fago-esque and could be him, but the first and 2nd stories are signed by Fago. Gag pages are signed Milt Hammer and a couple of stories are just credited to Jason Comic Art. Even those are pretty good, with some odd faces that look like Beavis and Butthead inspirations. I sure hope that I didn't lower the grade on the scanner. Now Bill has some chips with his beer. Jack
  21. That story title makes me vaguely uncomfortable -- not a title to skim over quickly. All of the pages are fabulous, but that splash is my favorite. Almost a shiverbones prototype! Congrats on a great purchase. Jack
  22. One more old funny animal book with a question. Frisky Fables Vol. 4 No. 4, Sep-48. Cover says "Curtis distributed" but indicia says "Premium Group". Is this an original or reprint? Obviously it's a total dishrag, but since it was dirt cheap and complete I couldn't resist the Al Fago artwork. Jack
  23. Impeccable taste! This must be your night for sucking up. Jack That's just plain mean Jack. I thought (sob) (chortle) that we were (sniff) friends.... Nah, you start whole threads to praise your REAL buddies. But I'm glad you like my Santa Claus comic book anyway. Jack
  24. Impeccable taste! This must be your night for sucking up. I wonder who SL was, or if it was a seller's mark. Several of the books in this batch have the same initials. Jack
  25. Thanks, all! DC funny animals are on a roll here lately! Sometimes they don't even attract a peep. Getting this much love, I guess Peter Porkchops will have to give up his seat on the Short Bus. Jack
