  1. The atoms are revolting! Very nice -- if you ever get a beater copy that you can scan flat, I'd love to see the illustration with better resolution. Is Orlovsky a pen name? Seems suspicious to me. What issue is it? NOT THAT I'M SHOPPING FOR A #$%^& PULP!!! Thanks, Jack Vol. 4 No. 1 (April 1929) Thankfully, I don't know which title it's from, so I can't look for a copy. Maybe my dear, sweet wife did get to you. Jack (Thanks)

  3. Y'know, I even spelled it with a 1 to avoid the spoony business. CGC is too smart for that obvious mask! Do you have this reprint? (More likely you have the original, I bet.) Jack
  4. You should Watch it, or I'll send my dear, sweet wife after both of you! Jack
  5. OK, one Short Bus book from the big buy. (Is it really Short Bus material?) An unusual reprint of Large Feature Comic 11 from the Chicago Tribune in 1982. It seems to be a cover to cover reprint with a semi-glossy cardstock cover, black and white interiors. I suspect that it's the same size as the original. How could I resist Tracy squaring off against a villain named The Mad Doc Hump? HAW! Best of all (for me) is this great chemistry page with an accurate recipe for nitroglycerine. Jack
  6. Go, charger, go! But for god's sake, Bill, don't get me started collectng pulps! Jack
  7. Two more FF scans. This one's for nostalgia. It's great to get a more presentable (about fine) copy of Fantastic Four Annual 4 to upgrade the newsstand copy from my youth. This was one of my absolute favorites! I loved the way Kirby, Sinnott and the uncredited colorist (M Severin? S Brodsky?) managed to made the new and old Human Torches so distinct. And the melodramatic Quasimodo ending to the Torch story! And the Hulk-Thing battle reprint that I had never read! Nirvana summer reading for a 13-year-old geek. And what's this thing? 1974-75 Topps-Marvel Comc Book Heroes checklist card with a FF 100 cover. Wha? Anyone looking for these? There are duplicates of the upper and lower left cards. Not Silver Age, but on the subject of Fantastic Four Annuals, I was happy to win 14 of them from #12 to 27, including 4 that I didn't already have, for a penny. Good ol' ebay! Jack
  8. Avons ROCK The tongue on the horse cracks me up. (The blue background is prettier than it looks in the scan.) Thanks, Jack
  9. It's not very often that I manage to fill a hole in my Silver Age Fantastic Four run (because I'm such a cheapskate). A respectable copy of #28 for a reasonable price! The scan looks worse than the book in hand -- it's really hard on the soiled white background. Just six more books in the 20s and upgrading a coverless 36 for a solid run from #15 to #131! Jack
  10. Not too much war in today's big haul, but I like this Combat Casey 25, 1955. Maneely cover is enough to sell the book, but I was especially curious how Atlas could tone down R Q Sales' often ultra-violent style for a post-code book. They managed. Jack
  11. I liked the looks of this Geronimo, Indian Fighter 1, 1950 from Avon, so much that I broke down and paid reasonable money for it. Probably shocked the seller! Great 1954 DC colors on this Gangbusters 39. I'm having trouble making the purple border show up right on my (usually too dark) monitor. Cold War antics with Commander Battle and the Atomic Sub 3, 1954 ACG. Pretty much BTH, but I still had to pay a decent price to find out why that H-bomb is coming from the moon. I'll put a few more in appropriate threads. Remarkably, I might not have to board the Short Bus this time! Jack
  12. I vote "post"! (thumbs u I vote for "paste", elmers is preferable (thumbs u Watch it, bub, or I'll paste ya like a Biro cover!! Thanks for egging me on, even if it was just to keep me from pouting. Here are the rest of the Crime Does Not Pay books: 66, 70, 78, 85, 115. Those Biro covers crack me up. AIEEEE!! Do you think some are in a bit lower condition? I can't complain -- the one with the scribbles closed at $0.01! .... All very cool books Jack. Such a fun title, in a macabre sort of way. Thanks -- I like 'em too! Looking forward to reading the stories to see if they can keep up with the covers. Jack

  14. A big order came in today. Some great stuff along some very cheap "modern trash". These two jumped out at me on the first glance through. Crime Does Not Pay 67 and 107 in respectable VG-range condition. Crime Does Not Pay 81 is in the nicest condition of that title, looking better than fine. The scan accentuates the stain at upper right. Five more from this series, plus some other goodies. Even Fantastic Four 28! I'll post more later if anyone wants to see them. Jack
  15. While you're at it, you have to believe that a man can turn his head around like an owl! That cover does crack me up though. Jack
  16. Omigosh -- it's Murphy Anderson's butterfly-ear people prototype! Isn't there another critter from a DC science fiction cover with a face that looks just like this guy? I can't put my finder on it right now. ... Jack Here's the one I was thinking of -- Science Comics 3 from Fox, not DC. I've seen the cover attributed to Fine, and I've seen disagreement. Jack
  17. Wow! These are wonderful! Omigosh -- it's Murphy Anderson's butterfly-ear people prototype! Isn't there another critter from a DC science fiction cover with a face that looks just like this guy? I can't put my finder on it right now. You in the back. Wipe that smirk off your face! Jack
  18. Superman? Bring back the Scrooge that loves obscure characters and flowered sarongs! Jack (nice catch anyway)
  19. That depends on the trolls. I haven't forgotten Deathlok. "Ignore this user" is provided for a reason! From shortly after he "greeted" my first posts, I only saw his venom when someone quoted him. He's not alone. Jack
  20. ....Metal Men, Metamorpho.... I arrived here about the time you were finishing up, so I didn't realize this. All those DC comics, and these two modest Silver Age series are among your top ten? A man of exquisite taste! Good evidence that your interest is in the content, not the price tag, too! Even a collector of modest means can finish those sets in at least readable condition. Seeing your favorites, it seems like Doom Patrol should be there too. Never struck your fancy? Jack
  21. You don't suppose he had just seen it two minutes earlier like I did. With Scrooge's visual memory, probably not. Jack I know I know but I can assure you that I posted in BZ's thread before seeing the other one. (thumbs u The scary part is that I believe you! Usually you ID from only about a dozen pixels. Jack
  22. You don't suppose he had just seen it two minutes earlier like I did. With Scrooge's visual memory, probably not. Jack
  23. Pun? Orange Skies Jack No pun intended. ..but this gives me a rare opportunity to show off some of my Arthur Lee LPs. I'm in the mood for Love... I see that their 1st 3 albums have been released on a "threefer" CD. I'll have to pick that up some time. Jack
  24. Pun? Orange Skies Jack Thanks for the music bit Jack. I had to reinstall Windows (I needed to clean up files anyway) to get my sound card to work again. I probably lost a few important favorite websites but hopefully no other damage. The comic files are on the external hard drive. It is nice to have but I think I might need a new comic Reader now. bb My link broke your computer? Some pal I am. Jack
  25. "Lo, there shall be an ending!" as Stan Lee would say. Well done! Just to be clear, I only make fun of the cheezy comic-book French accents. M De La Tour has an unusual one. He likes to pepper his speech with "Ma cherie" and such, but no substituting Z for TH like Batroc ze Lee-pair! I spent 6 great weeks in France in the 90s and don't make fun of the French people! I haven't contributed a good Short Bus scan to the thread for a while. Just wait until my box gets here from skypinkblu! Jack
