  1. Golden Age or Silver Age? Tough call -- post code but before Showcase 4 fired the starting pistol (seller's scan) No coupon to use this time, but nice enough condition for the price. Woodbridge cover. Is that a self-portrait? (Maybe not, since it's supposed to be the writer, not artist.) Jack
  2. The premise is so strange. Why is Betty so hard-up? She's always drawn as attractively (at least) as Veronica. And why is Archie so scared of Betty when she comes on to him? In some stories the gag is that he's an indiscriminate horndog. Is it because Betty's aggressive and women weren't supposed to be aggressive back then? I know, it's only a funnybook. A nice one at that. Jack What's a clutch, Gramps?
  3. This was also one of my earliest ways of being introduced to comic books! My childhood barber always had a stack of them to read! Yeah, he got them from me. A stack traded for a haircut. Including my *choke* *sob* Amazing Spider-Man 1, because it was kinda beat up. Jack
  4. That's very cool Matt And check out the young Foggy Nelson in the lower right hand corner waving his hand. Talk about and early DC - Marvel crossover! great eye pons; that is foggy. Or is it Pud? (Does that get spooned out?) Sorry for the tiny image -- find more here. Maybe Pud, the kid on the Adventure cover and Foggy Nelson are all the same character. It's a three-company crossover. It's Earth-Fleer! Jack
  5. I've got to show it off here too. (seller's scan) Whitman horror cover! Jack
  6. Jeez -- since you're dragging me out of it like that -- It closed at $20.50 but I have one more $20 coupon to use and the seller combines wins and charges exact shipping Jack
  7. WOW! Beautiful copies of two holiday classics! But Santa don't come on Hallowe'en. Jack (Why did Mrs. Claus divorce the jolly ol' elf?)
  8. Woo-hoo! The Monster 2 (seller's scan) The condition's not going to make anyone jealous, but the price might. Jack
  9. Are those two going to bring the same terrible exorcism of fire to the kids? Jack
  10. What a great, surreal story! I like Bozo's expression, "What the dingdong?" I actually use it and had no idea where it came from. Was it a typical Bozo saying? Great crazy professor character too. Thanks, Jack
  11. Suggesting that the guy in the foreground with his back to the viewer is Ronnie himself! The hairdo looks right. Jack
  12. A while back, I was trying to figure out who the woman is based on. Definitely looks like photo-reference to me. Is it Jane Wyman? (A couple of publicity stills attached.) If I could find a picture of her with those little curls on the forehead, I say for sure it was her. Great copy! Jack
  13. Paratrooper, is this on your list? (you just have to type his name and he shows up like beetlejuice, right?) Jack
  14. I'll give you a buck each That's nice of you. Then they'd only cost me -$1.81. Wait, do you mean to congratulate me for the great catch, or to buy them? Forget the latter! Jack
  15. Let me emphasize your obviously! Won on ebay last night (seller's scans), total cost $5.72 plus a little shipping (seller saves up a boxful). MARINES IN ACTION #11 MARINES IN BATTLE #13 MARINES IN BATTLE #14 Maybe I should mention that the first two came to 19¢. Jack
  16. Whoever wrote the story saved Lou a lot of work by covering half the page with text. Yakety-freakin-yak, like some EC stories. Jack
  17. AWP! You're embarrassing my Raggedy Raggedy Ann & Andy 1! Very nice books! Here's a great story page from The Stolen Shoe. Remember, Ann's made out of rags, so she gets burned up and the squirrels have to stitch her. Pretty intense for little kids! Jack
  18. There's no reprint notes in Overstreet or at GCD, where the book is well indexed. I bet it's all original. Jack
  19. Fantastic books! Those wartime Timely funny animals are amazing. Who can resist a green cat with a machine gun? I'm jealous of such a sharp, early Flash Gordon Four Color issue. Jack
  20. I've always liked Tip Tops Jack. And you know how I feel about Famous Funnies. I still have two or three that you need to get from me one day. Two or three Tip Tops w/ Triple Terror? Just leave the key in the mail box and I'll stop by. Jack
  21. A great Short Bus comic book in today's haul! Raggedy Ann & Andy 1 Feb-55 Dell Giant, glossy but tape and all kinds of wear. A gem for fans of Johnny Gruelle's Raggedy Ann. I don't know whether the stories are all original or some reprints. The artwork even the lettering, are first-rate! The stories are creative and fun, with some wild characters and almost psychedelic plots. The Stolen Shoe, with a talking dog, a squirrel wedding cruise in a shoe, and a marvelous pyromaniac green ogre. Highly recommended -- for a quarter! Jack
  22. Another big batch of misc! As usual, I like the golden-age beaters the best, even with a X-Men slab and some other high-grade stuff in the box. Two favorites: Tip Top Comics 64 Aug-41 United Feature Syndicate, full-page ad for Sparkler 1. Includes Triple Terror (Menta, Lectra, Chemix), the feature that I really bought the book for, but Mirror Man is very cool too. Also reprints of Fritzi Ritz, Iron Vic, Jim Hardy, Tailspin Tommy, Li'l Abner, etc. Nice copy for ten bucks! Famous Funnies 76 Nov-40 Buck Rogers story & ad inside back cover, Hydroman (Bill Everett) in Heroic Comics ad inside front cover. Napoleon is the cover feature. Yes, it's a beater. 68 years old for two bucks! My favorite of the haul despite condition. More on the Short Bus and maybe elsewhere. Jack Jack
  23. Superheroes, Kirby art. Bzzzzztttt Jack I was unaware of any Kirby art. Did he do the Boy Commandos or Captain Marvel? Looks like Kirby Boy Commandos and Beck Captain Marvel, doesn't it? Their usual characters. Fun book. I'd like to have even a rough copy. Jack
