  1. Just wanted to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed the Marketplace over the last week or so.

There have really been some fabulous selling threads with great books. I am very happy to finally be turning my somewhat embarassing collection of 80's and 90's drek into a collection that I can truly enjoy and take pride in its ownership.

Keep up the good work people. This board is the best.

  2. If it's bought and sold in an open forum, and not via PM, then I see no reason why the price shouldn't stay visible. (shrug)

Plus, it's fun to see what sold for how much, and it helps you gauge whether the prices are agreeable to your budget.

Agreed. By PM keep it under wraps...you don't want anyone to know what kind of shifty lowballer you are, right?

On the open forum, keep it up and visible. As Joe says it is fun to see what they sold for and find out what deal you missed out on so you can kick yourself.

  3. I know Buddy has been in business for a long time...

I think that's a big part of the problem: Buddy was active in fandom back in the '60s when "tight grading" wasn't really much of an issue, and he probably still grades very old school like lots of other collectors and dealers who have been doing this for 40+ years, and sees nothing wrong with it.

For better or worse (and I can see valid arguments on both sides of the debate), CGC ushered in a whole new era of grade-consciousness. Some old schoolers have adapted, and some haven't. The bottom line for me is that a high volume operation like Lone Star is NOT the kind of place where I'm likely to shop for HG material. But when it comes to mid-grade fillers in bulk at good prices, they've always been great for me...

My LCS is the same way. He has been doing this for a looong time and is highly critical of the CGC way of things. He stands by his grades but I think he grades a bit too freely and the OSPG is his bible but hes got a great selection of product. I think overall collectors today are much more strict in the grading and he hasn't "moved on" so to speak.

  4. Hold the book in your hand. If you love it. If it makes you feel good just to hold it. If you marvel at the colors, the art, the writing and the history behind it than its perfectly graded.

I think I understand exactly what you mean, Grails.

  5. Though I have been reading the discussion and generally was against the auctions being allowed I do like the last comment made by Architect.

Auctions should have a BIN price. Once the BIN is reached thats the end of the auction and sold to the buyer who reached it first. The auction would have to have a hard, non negotiable time limit. Maybe 48 hours. "Optimistic" BINs would never be reached so the time limit is necessary.

The more I think about it the more I like. We should try to tear it down for any faults it might present.
