Let’s say he/she negotiated 0% commission. It’s $15k prior to BP so $1000 win. Then if there were any additional costs at Windy City, shipping/insurance to Heritage, etc.

Unless you’re saying some of that BP can be adjusted as well.

Was the Windy City copy the Edwards copy?

I know that there is a lot of negotiation space from many angles.   I have been offered a zero percent seller's premium by Heritage for a specific item i own.  And i'm a tiny fish in a huge ocean of buyers and sellers.

I was checking the pics from the Windy City auction and it looks like a different copy than the one sold by Heritage.  The Windy city copy was nicer,  but I don't know the provenance, and it was not mentioned in the description. See below.  Considering the Windy City auction was April 2023, it still wouldn't have been a bad quick turnaround.

Is that’s the same copy from WW for $14k the consignor barely made any money, perhaps lost some.

High rollers can apparently negotiate a minimal sellers premium for their wares.  I'm sure a savvy consigner with high demand items would negotiate a more favorable rate.

Thanks to @adamstrange and @sfcityduck for this thoughtful and insightful discussion!  Your comments have added significant depth and detail to my understanding of comic genres and ages that I collect.  Both of you have valid points and I will be mentally logging much of this information as I enjoy our hobby.  All this without even a single moderator warning.  Way to keep it classy!  :golfclap:

On the other hand, say you are a E.R.B. fan and expect to find that full story in this super-pricey book you've just purchased if you do happen to crack it.  You'd be pretty upset if the first page of the story (or whole story) was clipped when that's a key part of the value of the book.

I agree that pages must be counted (as problematic as that is).  Some notable / valuable pulps with landmark firsts have very unimpressive covers, or the covers are unrelated to the important content. i.e REH's first Conan in WT has a nice St. John cover that has nothing to do with Conan, PKD's first published work in Planet Stories has a decent but generic cover, Lovecraft's first Cthulhu story in WT has an unrelated and unremarkable cover. The story pages are the gold here, not the covers.
