  1. Another new one Avengers weekly #2 comes with an Avengers Wonder Weapon (cardboard gun witch fires cardboard disks) similar to Spider-Man one in POW #1
  2. This is an extremely rare comic as a UK price variant;
  3. Oh, for s sake! See you boys soon Expand .... joking aside, I'm going to wait until I find a second copy of this book before adding it to the list. Whilst I don't necessarily distrust it, I am wary of images on the GCD which are cropped and which may have been tampered with. Very easy to add that top left corner box to an image like that. So I'll keep looking for a second copy, preferably one in hand. Damn cool though, that, after all this time. Marwood will like this one when he gets back.......
  4. GRR JIM #83 is a bit different to others, because Thor story is only half a book instead of printing rest of JIM #83 it reprints another story - Thor and lava man. It does utilize inside cover in b&w but rest of comic is in colour. so lacking of page 1 is an obvious give away difference to original printing.
  5. As JJJ says above the editorial is completely different so you can easily tell GRR. Don’t know what issue you are after but there are other differences: GRR; Original;
  6. I believe I have all the Marvel superhero ones;
  7. No. None of Hero For Hire have pence variants I believe. First Power Man pence variant was issue 20. That’s correct first pence was #20. If you look in Silver, there is a thread “Marvel UK Price Variants “ which lists every Marvel pence variant silver and bronze. Marwood has done similar threads for other publishers.
  8. ....and if T&P didn’t sell it here for 1/- they could try again for 3 1/2p. We need to find a collector in 1969 who actually cared if the comics were UKPV or stamped, I suspect like Albert has said most readers wouldn’t have cared/noticed/remembered.
  9. When I did some research for Marvel distribution I found that Until March 1969 Marvels were generally UKPV with stamps generally only appearing during gaps of no UKPV. However in April 1969 UKPVs restarted (after a year and half gap when only T&P stamps appeared) at 1/- price, however unlike previous periods of UKPVs there is an abundance of stamped copies also. I speculated either; · There were reduced numbers of UKPVs which meant T&P needed to fill the gap with stamped cents copies · Demand had increased to the extent that T&P needed more supply · World Distributors had taken over distribution of UKPVs and T&P stamps were in competition? (I can’t find when World Distributors took over from Thorpe and Porter).
  10. I have the other three in this series by ideals publishing corps; I also have Spider-man and Hulk in hardback by another publisher, Children’s Press; Does anyone know if Fantastic Four and/or Captain America exist in hard back? I searched for many years on eBay but eventually gave up actively looking.
  11. Interesting. The bottom right copyright indica is identical so both pertain to be originals (yours has a shop stamp/sticker which I assume was put on by seller). The only dayglo ones I have seen are modern reprints without the Personality Posters indica. I don’t believe heritage would sell reprints/copies without listing as such, I wonder if the dayglo effect is due to the lighting when photographed (blacklight?) or perhaps it’s a rare oddity. I’m going to keep an eye out for other dayglo ones.
  12. I’m not aware of two printings, however there are two different sizes; The set of eight are 12” x 16” these have just a marvel comics copyright in bottom right. The larger hulk one which you have is 41” x 29” and has 1966 marvel copyright AND personality posters name and address in bottom right. Spider-Man therefore has three printings - the original six foot one ravaged by your cat, and the two reworked ones by Personality Posters, the 16” one in the set of eight and the 41” one same size as your hulk. Only hulk and Spider-Man had the 41” treatment.
  13. Yes, this is the Personality Posters set of eight. Spider-Man is an amended version of the OPs poster albeit a smaller size. The hulk and Spider-Man posters of this set were released in a larger format but not quite six foot like the original. As Unca Ben says Spider-Man was reworked for these posters, the other noticeable variation being the loss of friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man “signature”
  14. Just a slight correction, the amended poster was by Personality Posters and released in 1966. They produced a set of 8 Marvel posters and larger versions of two of them - the amended Spider-Man one referred to and a Hulk one as posted by OP.
  15. What about Lancashire? If indeed it is eastern then would be one of the old British colonies to be using pennies.
  16. That looks about the same condition as my pence Spider-Man 1. When I bought it about 25 years ago for £500 that was more than three times what I’d ever paid for a comic before. Hopefully these Marvel keys will hold value for many years as mine will probably end up with the grandkids- they’re too young at present to read, great if they take interest in comics but suspect they’ll want to cash in.
  17. CGC changed couple of years ago they now annotate as “UK Price Variant”. If anyone wishes to look in Silver there is an extensive thread on everything UK price variants.
  18. From what I can see every issue is a non-stamped cents copy - not what you would expect from a seller in the UK unless a serious collector/dealer.
  19. Happy to be corrected but I believe these were Neal’s first Marvel “covers”;
  20. Cheers. It’s a challenge now to get one at what I consider a reasonable price. I thought the first few issues by Lee and Kirby after #60 relaunch were quite good but otherwise it’s a series I collect only because they exist.
  21. I think I was the immediate underbidder (for about the fourth time). I’ve had this on my watch list for 10+ years, first one I’ve seen in UK. I’ m not sure I really want it that much, it’s more a ritual to try and find one and then not buy it. Still missing about 40 issues of TGK so I’m never going to complete.
  22. Wasn’t it Martin Goodman who suggested a Superhero team because DC were having success with JLA. The Marvel Vault reproduces Stan Lee’s original --script which he gave to Jack Kirby from which Jack produced FF #1. My take is that without Goodman there would have been no Marvel universe, without Stan Lee there would be no Marvel universe, without Jack Kirby there would have been a Fantastic Four comic but it would have been so poor it wouldn’t have lasted long and there would be no Marvel universe.
