  1. Can't get over that amazing Pictorial Romances #7. Man, I wish I had an extra 5K laying around somewhere...
  2. Just one bump... Just one 10% discount on the Strange Mysteries #2... ...and if there are still no takers, I'll be happy to hang onto it until it's ripe enough to just fall off the vine.
  3. While paging through it, I thought, "Boy, I should post a few interior shots!" But there were just so many great panels I'd want to post, I was afraid it would become a major, time consuming project.
  4. Teen-Age Romances #17, St. John, 1951. Sold. Cover and entire book by Baker. About 3.0. Complete, unrestored, tight cover and CF, no tape or major defects, off-white pages. (This is one of the "tall" issues, which are about 1/2" taller than most GA books. They are hard to find without that top 1/2" edge usually damaged, often mangled from years living upright in boxes amongst shorter books that made those tall tops lonely, exposed, and vulnerable.) $450. I don't remember the last time another one of these sold. It's a tough issue. I think my price is reasonable for a lower grade TR in the teen numbers, all of which are complete-by-Baker issues. For what it's worth, a #12 in CGC 2.0 went for $450. on Comiclink earlier in June.
  5. Strange Mysteries #2, Superior, 1951. Complete and unrestored, a solid mid grade copy, flat, tight, lustrous. Ow/w pages. About 4.5/5.0. Tiny chip at bottom edge of fc. The bc also has a slightly larger chip out at the spine (visible in scan, if you look closely to the right of the ad coupon). Also visible in bc scan are the few light water marks. $800. Exacly what a slabbed 4.5 recently sold for on Comiclink. (That one looked nicer too but had a 2" edge tear.) I was surprised by that result but I do think the whole title is heating up, and this is one of the better covers. It's PCH, GGA to boot, and since Superior utilized the Iger shop talent pool, you never know when Kamen and/or Baker may have sat in for a few hands (or faces, or legs). Their style is all over Superior. Wasn't really planning to sell this one, but if it'll now fetch this much, well, then... here's a cool book for somebody.
  6. Just a couple of books this time. Terms: Free shipping, selling to US only. I ship promptly and securely. Returns accepted on raw books, only if I've made a major oversight in description. I sell on the boards once in a blue moon, but have done so (here and on eBay under the same name) for 15+ yrs. without any problems. Paypal only. Please make payment within 24 hours after invoiced. If this is going to be problematic, please contact me before committing to buy so we can work it out. Thanks. Sale is over when someone posts, "Take It", or when I post, "Sold by PM".
  7. Here's a copy I'm quite certain isn't trimmed. But even if your copy doesn't perfectly match this one, I wouldn't assume your copy is trimmed. Comic production wasn't a perfect science back then, there were slight variations within a print run. Also consider, as the grade of the book goes down, so does the incentive to try and make the copy appear nicer. How much grade would be gained by making the trimming you suspect on this copy? Now that I see your copy, I really think it most likely came out of the factory as is.
  8. Is there any indication that someone made an effort to separate married pages at the outside edge? I've seen that sort of thing on St. John books. Usually they just rip through the paper, leaving ragged edges, but maybe someone used scissors on your copy(?)
  9. The same buyer as well, so it must have only been made available to that buyer. Weird. It's a reputable seller, so some sort of strange deal was going down. I'd guess the seller discovered a previously overlooked flaw in the book after the auction, but was able to reach a compromise with the buyer.
  10. Yeah, that thread certainly was a lot of fun! We should do it again... in about ten years.
  11. I agree with the fact that a GFC kind of reduces the appeal of an otherwise very cherry EC slightly, just because the GFC's are so perfect, the grades of other very nice books can't help but suffer in comparison. In the case of a non-GFC that was truly every bit as nice as a given GFC, it becomes slightly less special if there are 10-ish GFC's like it out there. Good thing I love my EC's no matter what! Yes! EC's look great in any grade! I spent years looking for this perfectly beautiful mid-grade copy of Weird Fantasy #21. Who needs a nicer copy?
  12. The colors on this one really pop...
  13. I still haven't found the right Hawk 12. I have a really nice 11 which I still need to scan. But I think 10 might be my favorite...
  14. Doesn't she also lose her mind somewhere in that same time period...?
  15. For your analogy to be completely accurate, you'd also need to take the number of other HG SA Marvels, and reduce it to a handful, relative to those "Stan Lee File copies". Then examine the effect on the market for the non pedigree HG copies.
  16. The GFC master list does include many of the pre-trend titles, which leaves us to deduce that Max Gaines must've started the whole practice of saving multiple back issues of EC books. Bill didn't take over the business until sometime after 1947, when his dad was killed in a boating accident. But there are many Gaines File copies of the "Picture Stories from...(etc.)" series, which go back to as early as '42 or '43, I believe. So, there are Bill Gaines file copies, and Max Gaines file copies! You evidently have one of the latter.
  17. That wasn't just a one-time mistake? It's policy, now, not to mention the GFC pedigree status on the label???
  18. Venus is a "space girl", a lot of the time. She's from space, anyway... Wish I had a scan of my #1 to post, but I recently picked up a #15...
  19. It's great to be reminded that certain Gaines File copies still have the power to drop my jaw to the floor, even after all of them I've seen over the years. Awesome book(s)!
  20. The day after this thread began, I found this at a local show. (Wasn't really looking for one, but it's a nice looking lower grade book, and the price didn't seem at all excessive!) It's a cover that's always been a stand-out favorite of mine. Venus looks very Goddess-like. Any opinions as to which issues of this title are especially hard to find? (Seems like this one's only come up on the 'Bay once or twice, within my decade and 1/2 there...)
