  1. I had one that I THOUGHT I was burned on. TOS 39, sold to me raw as Fine, again back in 2002. $1200. I got it, and there was a tear in the back cover. I contacted the seller and said I didn't think this was Fine. But he offered no return. I asked him to throw in a few extra comics to make up for some value... no. He then on the 90th day after the sale, he left me HORRIBLE feedback. Said I was extorting him. I couldn't respond to his, since it was past 90 days. I was ripped. But, c'est la vie. Fast forward to last year. Got the book CGC'd. 5.5 Universal. Sold for $8400. Worked out okay.
  2. That is awesome!!!! I have a similar story, with two parts to it. Again, back in 2002, I was loading up on Marvel keys and saw a Hulk 1 go up on Heritage. CGC'd, 7.5, PLOD (slight color touch), from the Nicolas Cage collection. Back then the PLODs were selling at even deeper discounts than now. I thought, maybe this market will bounce back. I won it at $1700. And stored it away. Fast forward to last year... I decided to send it to CCS to see if the resto could be removed. They said it could. And... voila... a 7.5 Hulk 1 PLOD becomes...
  3. I’ve had quite a few, but this stands out because I never expected it. Back in 2002, I spent a windfall on Marvel comics. Toward the end, I realized I had no Thor. So, in addition to a JIM 83 that had been restored, I bought a small lot... JIM 84, 85 and 86... plus JIM Annual 1, and Thor 126. All raw... at auction... for $250. Forgot about them until last year when I slabbed and sold them... grades: 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 6.5 and 6.5. Sweet. Anybody else have a memorable one?
  4. I'm not super sure of myself grading above 8.0... but to me this is a 8.5, maybe better. Great book. Might be able to erase the pencil on the back too? Sending up the Bat Signal now... @joeypost
  5. I think it’ll go higher. My grading is sketchy above 8.0, but this book should look fabulous when pressed.
  6. Might get more response in the other forum. To me this is a 8.5, maybe better. Might be able to erase the pencil on the back too. Great book!
  7. Wow... awesome! Great cover. And debut of the Absorbing Man to boot! Congrats!
  8. Wow... that’s awesome. Really shows how a press can help boost the grade even with obvious and seemingly insurmountable flaws. Congrats!
  9. If those are water stains, yeah, it would knock it way down... maybe 4.5. Otherwise, I think you’re at a 6.0 or so. Nice book!
  10. Hmmm... hadn’t thought about trimmed. That would be pure speculation. Perhaps my problem was the FIRST bourbon. LOL
  11. They're already reverse engineering the book. All they have to is add the estimated grade minus the resto they discovered. It would really boost the value of books with slight restoration, which is as it should be.
  12. A grade for its present appearance, and a grade for its appearance without the restoration done? Im sure I’ll be told why this is a bad idea. Maybe I’ll figure it out myself, after the second bourbon.
  13. joeypost took a Hulk 2 of mine with a massive FRONT cover chunk gone, worked his magic, and I got a 2.5. It would be money well spent IMHO.
  14. I’d absolutely get that pressed if it were mine. It will definitely improve the overall appearance, and maybe get it to a 2.0.
  15. Don't know anything about that book... all I can see what looks like a nick, and the uneven cut. Both could have been production problems. Dunno. EDIT: Well, here's one that sold on eBay... Bad cut... BUT no nick. FWIW.
  16. Quick story: I had a handful of ASM 20's in my stash... two of them had the poster clipped out (and I never noticed... d'oh!!!). One of those came back 7.0 green, one came back 0.5 blue. I cracked the 0.5 and sold it raw (it was probably VG condition). Got about $200 for it, which was way better than what 0.5 Blue's sell for. Bottom line: I would specify which you want. In general, if it's a high grade book otherwise, I'd get the green. If it's VG or less, I'd leave it raw.
  17. I don't believe so... I had an ASM 11 where the previous owner colored Spidey's face blue with a pen. CGC didn't plod it... got a blue 4.0.
